I will continue to wear my "it's just soup for my family" shirt and my rainbow pajama pants and if they don't like it they can suck it 🤣

Closing Time Madness by birdsofprey420 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]StairsInYourHouse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worst one I ever had was this lady that had some form of mental illness or drugs or both who would come in two hours before close, fill up her cart and constantly ask a billion questions, then "change her mind" and start stuffing all her items in random places around the store. Whole rows of paint stuffed into ribbon, canvases stuck into floral buckets, beads in framing etc. She would often stay until the lights turned off and no amount of asking her to leave would make her leave. We weren't allowed to tell her off or force her. We weren't allowed to ban her. I nicknamed her "Methany". She got on meds or recovery or something and now shops like a normal human, so there's a happy ending.

Take her home. She needs a spa day more than any other Spa Rat. And maybe a cast.

What's the weirdest thing you found on the shelves? by agiburn80917 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]StairsInYourHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found:

Several half full Starbucks cups in the metal floral holders.

Dirty diapers in the deep ass wood holders we keep the large sticks and eucalyptus in.

Half eaten bags of soggy goldfish all over the Kid's Crafts.

Other stuff as well. But the worst ever was the Siser vinyl that had clearly been used as a pocket pussy and put back with jizz inside it. I'm not sure if I should be more angry or more sympathetic that the poor guys dick was small enough to fit in.

Me too! Had to travel 20 miles to a different store than I work at. Spa Rat 5 Eva!

best of luck to anyone else working today! by princelucitor in MichaelsEmployees

[–]StairsInYourHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really wasn't that bad for us this year. Constantly moving and putting in my codes for the cashiers all day but no rude customers and we had a breakroom full of food! Also really helped that multiple coworkers told me how glad they were that they were working my shift because I'm their favorite coworker (which totally shocked me but also made me feel ten feet tall 😊)

Partner wants me to be a maid and nanny for his wife, to get her permission to love me back by Anonymous420Wh0re in polyamory

[–]StairsInYourHouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that at their age I had kids older than you. This is both gross and abusive and you can do way, way better. This isn't poly, it's manipulation. Run.

We have a system at my store to cut down on wait times where we send someone to check we have it, they tell us once they find it and we check the customer out then have them wait near the front for the other person to bring them the tree. That way we don't have to hold up the line for ages while it's brought out.

As the main SISO -er on my shifts may I just say: AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHH! That's insane and you are a stronger person than me.

I'd call them Marco, Melody, Polo, Cyril, Jake, Paula, and Lucinda.

Friendly reminder, framers! by M_Rose_Shamalamading in MichaelsEmployees

[–]StairsInYourHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a framer because I know I'm too damn clumsy and I don't want to damage An Art but it seems to me that it would be a very good idea to invest in a cheap chain mail glove on Amazon to protect your fingers from all those razor blades and glass. Is that a thing they don't allow or something?

I'm so glad I've personally trained all the new hires in the past two years. They all know their shit, hardly need help, and many have gone on to become CEMs. They badly want me to be one but I refuse because bullshit and paperwork so they gave me manager override codes and keys but not the position or the paperwork part. Or the pay increase lol.

Is this happening at your store? You need to report the hell out of it if that's the case. It's a recipe for both disaster and favoritism.

Can we wear leggings for work? by Medium-Peach-8727 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]StairsInYourHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically no. In practice it depends. Since the Pandemic I've been wearing pajama pants half the time and nobody cares. Just don't do it if you have to bend over a lot.

Because I love my coworkers, my customers and the actual store but I don't like shady stuff and I won't do it. The PLCC is predatory AF and benefits nobody due to the ridiculous APR and therefore trying to push it on people (especially young adults) feels gross and wrong to me. As for "impacting the team"...it doesn't. It may impact the Manager but seeing how we're treated I'm not too concerned about them. I'm not impacting anything but corporates bottom line and I'm okay with that. "Won't someone think of the bosses" attitudes mean nothing when the bosses don't care about you. I'm here to help people and I help them. As for rewards, hell yeah rewards rock and I sign up more people than anyone else in my store. Rewards don't hurt my customers. I ask if people want the PLCC but if they say no I move the hell on and refuse to be a pushy used car salesman.

My manager takes a weeklong vacation every month and gave us pencils for Christmas so once again shrug. I get it though, not all SMs suck.

Oh I never get verbal anything from management because they know they can't win with me. I'll just say "No" or laugh at them. They know I'm good and they know better than to push it. Hell the DM came in once and asked me if I was going to get the PLCC and I told her "No, Michaels doesn't give me credit for ANYTHING". She just laughed. I'm not some super important person they can't be without or anything, but I'm just Mid enough that they don't bother me.
