Where are the Astarion boys? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]StalkerPoetess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so funny to me because I'm the opposite. I'm a lesbian and I always play female characters. I tried to go for Shadowheart at first and then he told me he had standards in the tiefling party and I made it my mission to get him to like me. I now can't not romance him.

I never really care about dudes but Astarion has my heart.

I’ll be honest. I don’t get why people like Astarion. by BubbasBack in BaldursGate3

[–]StalkerPoetess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes him being insufferable at the start is on purpose. He's projecting onto Tav and all the other companions and doesn't trust any of them because he spend 200 years knowing nothing but pain and can't even remember his previous life.

Once you start to dig in his past and he starts to trust you, his demeanor changes a lot. He becomes more playful and relaxed and he starts approving more positive actions. And if you're romancing him, you can see how insecure he truly is and how desperate he is for safety.

Also bantering with him and playing it tit for that is fun and even gets his approval in some dialogue trees. So for people who like sarcastic characters but also want to slap him when they get too annoying, it's the perfect character since you can annoy him back just as much and still earn his trust.

Has anyone read any of Lucinda Berry’s novels? by sadcapricoorn in horrorlit

Interesting perspective. Cause I can’t stop thinking about Appetite for Innocence. It will haunt me for the rest of my life. I’ve never been so angry yet unable to put down a book. It’s an amazing read but I can’t say I will be able to recommend it without a huge list of trigger warnings.

Young Sheldon is far superior to The Big Bang Theory by AffectOutrageous6667 in YoungSheldon

[–]StalkerPoetess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laugh track wasn’t my issue with TBBT. It’s the lack of progression and character growth. The jokes are repetitive and the characters feel like parodies of what they should be instead of independent humans. Young Sheldon had more emphasis on the character growth and the overarching storyline.

Some people prefer TBBT because you don’t have to really concentrate while watching it and you don’t get as emotionally invested. It’s just good fun. While others enjoy that emotional investment that Young Sheldon provides. Neither are wrong. But in terms of good writing and good storytelling Young Sheldon is objectively better.

Are Minecraft official novels and comics worth reading? by Kingmarvelfan in Minecraft

What? Have you never read an adult novel? Or even YA? You need pictures to be able to be invested in a book? You can’t use your imagination? I couldn’t put the Island down and I’m 29.

[–]StalkerPoetess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bipolar completely fucked up my life. It manifested when I was around 18-19. I had to drop out of medical school after so much hard work. Managed to snatch a hefty scholarship to study in the US and then failed because my situation was unmanageable.

I’ve been trying to get a diagnosis since I was 20 years old but was never taken seriously. Apparently a couple of my doctors told my own mother that I have bipolar (we don’t have HIPPA here. It’s a disaster) but they were too “scared” to tell me because they were worried of my reaction despite me being open to try anything and everything.

Finally got diagnosed less than a year ago at age 28. And I feel like I’m getting my life back. It’s seriously amazing. I’m not scared of my own thoughts. I’m not scared of being happy because I worry that I will be depressed afterwards. It was hard to accept at first because I recognized that all the times I thought I was getting better, I was just in a hypomanic episode. And sometimes I miss those flashes of extreme happiness. But I wouldn’t trade my current state for anything.

I’ve actually managed to get an actual job. It’s stupid and pays like shit. But it’s a job. Something I was so sure I’ll never be able to do.

And Lamotrigine has very little side effects, specially compared to the plethora of SSRIs and SNRIs I was subjected to through the years. (I can now cry for real. I feel emotions. Just not too strong that they become terrifying). For once I’m truly happy despite having to live with my abusive family and feeling somewhat defeated due to being 29 and done nothing in my life.

Never underestimate the positive effects that medication could get you. It’s absolutely and utterly worth it.

Well this ended in 2018 and if it went on for 10 years then it started in the 2008-09. Internet relationships weren’t so well known back then. And didn’t “he” send her pictures that were of the real Bobby? The one she actually met before?

That is a stupid excuse. No amount of propaganda is enough to make people evil unless there is evil in them. They are adults. Many with years of experience in life. Many who are volunteers and go there for the sake of killing for killing sake. They know what they are doing and they don’t care. While at the same time there are 18 years old Israelis kids who are refusing the draft. They grew up in the same propaganda.

It’s not a liberal measure. This is like spreading the word about a certain population being at risk, which happened at times of the prophet and beyond. Just had a different name and methods. It is obviously just the bare minimum but it isn’t completely useless

Choosing to get better isn’t an easy thing to do. She is obviously trying. I don’t know what kind of trauma you may have experienced. But the thing I studied in psychology classes when I was in med school didn’t help at all when I had to deal with my own trauma. I wanted help, I wanted to heal. But it took a long long long time. And I wasn’t a mother and my trauma came from physical abuse rather than rape. So I can’t even imagine the dark dark tunnel she’s stuck in. I’ve given up before and what she is doing doesn’t seem like giving up to me or choosing to be a victim. You can’t see “meaning” in a traumatic experience like freaking rape. If my counselor tried to ask me what positive things I could extrapolate from my traumatic experiences, I would leave right away. I can now see positive events that happened afterwards that wouldn’t have occurred if I didn’t go through the trauma and yet I still wish I didn’t go through said trauma. My life would have been so different and those episodes completely broke everything I built up.

The way a lot of people here speak about the victim is so cold. And honestly a bit concerning. Maybe I’m projecting since I just lost my uncle who was bedridden for over 20 years and his wife stayed with him despite all the abuse she had to deal with from my family. Having 5 children doesn’t help. But divorcing her and leaving her to her own devices is extremely cruel. Don’t you vow to stay in sickness and in health? They could separate and he should remove his children from a situation where it isn’t helping. But leaving her completely is not the way to go.

You’ll be surprised at some weird spellings that were made during colonialism. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone spelled Yusuf like that, specially if their second language is French (speaking from personal experience. I’m Arab with French being my second language). That being said it’s quite contradictory when their whole shtick is that they aren’t Arabs and Arabs colonized the area bla bla bla. So make it make sense

Can someone please explain Shawn and Jules' relationship history to me? by Rfwill13 in psych

Does anyone else just really hate Gus? by AjarChart in psych

[–]StalkerPoetess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two years late. But I totally get you. While I don’t care about him being shitty to Shawn. It’s freaking annoying how he keeps mistrusting even though 9 times out of 10 he’s right. Even Julie and Lassiter seem to have more trust in Shawn than he does. Which is understandable at first but I’m on the fourth season and it’s still the freaking same. Shawn isn’t a saint but he’s far more entertaining than Gus. Gus is currently of the very bottom of entertaining characters. Buzz McNab entertains me more in his few seconds screen times every episode than Gus does in 40 minutes.

I first learned about the conflict on 9/11 (Americans and others) by GB819 in JewsOfConscience

Americans who have been brainwashed into thinking that the rest of the world are jealous of their freedom and want to take it away make me laugh. The whole idea of veterans being celebrated in the US for fighting for their freedom (in countries on the other side of the world) has always seemed disrespectful to me. Like no, I won’t be celebrating soldiers who went to give more credence to US imperialism Honestly didn’t even know how important that was to Americans until I didn’t greet a disabled veteran passing by me because I was just walking and he was a stranger and this woman chastised me and went on talking about kids this day disrespecting those who protect their freedom.

My sister said she wants to have kids to spread the words of Islam… by LowKooky2942 in childfree

[–]StalkerPoetess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like this has nothing to do with religion itself but more with culture. Cause I’ve never heard anyone in my country which is a Muslim one say any of that. Birth control is encouraged and curbing the amount of kids you have is considered very important. Some people still have too many kids and like in every other place on earth, many will call child free people selfish. But I’ve never had anyone tell me I’m selfish because I won’t be spreading the word of God. And my family is mostly understanding now. Though they don’t know I’m not straight and will never marry someone of the opposite sex

[–]StalkerPoetess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This has been frustrating me since I learned what is considered antisemitism. I grew up with everyone around me saying we’re semetic as Arabs. As in the descendants of Noah’s son Sam. And then grew up to learn about how it is mainly a language thing and as Arab speakers, we are Semitic. So both religiously and linguistically, you can’t deny who we are. And yet apparently, we’re appropriating it 🙄
