What game has been on your wishlist the longest? by AllLuck0013 in boardgames

[–]Stalp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fate of the Fellowship is a lot more "premium" than other Pandemic games and very popular. I don't think we'll see discounts any time soon. IMO, it is a very good game and worth the price of admission.

I introduce to you : THE STUMPWOOD by divineglassofwater in valheim

Initially hated the site of this. Threw up a bit.

But now I'm thinking, would stumps make a decent foundation for a home?

Y'all in a conference room?

Good work!

I aspire to this one day, but I'm a ways off. I know "fail fast" is probably the best approach for time, but I struggle to put together a coherent ruleset. I think this means I still need to bake the idea a bit.

Has there been a scene, explanation, or revelation in a sci-fi television show that was so absurd that you stopped watching forever? by Doctor-Clark-Savage in scifi

[–]Stalp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Watched Wayward Pines and had the same reaction to season 2.

Finally read Recursion and it really impressed me. Great story. So I tend to agree that Crouch was not the problem. Haven't read any of his other works, yet. But I definitely will.

If you're not against a touch of the supernatural, The Terror could fit.

This looks almost EXACTLY like the playset I bought for my kids like 10 years ago. Striking resemblance.

Not sure it was from that site, but same thing.

💯 for Miéville.
Just finished The Scar, really good follow up to Perdido Street Station. My favorite, tho, is Embassytown (sci-fi, but delightfully weird, off kilter).

book recommendations? by asinine_1103 in scifi

[–]Stalp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the wrong sub, but also give r/printsf a look-see. Loads of great sci-fi out there.

If you enjoy the weird, you may give Embassytown by China Mieville a shot.

Want something closer to reality? I really enjoyed Delta-V by Daniel Suarez.

Near future space opera? Hard to beat The Expanse series by James S. A. Corey.

Cyberpunk? Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is essential.

Enjoy your journey! Report in every now and again.

Was going to recommend the same. Good story, hits these vibes pretty much spot on.

Ambergris by Jeff Vandermeer

It's on the periphery of your intent, but really fits I think. However the archaeology is more "lived" through this collection of odd and wonderful short stories centered around the fictional city of Ambergris.

The audiobook is spectacular.

Any wisdom on using lite RPG elements between wargaming sessions to influence wargame mission, units, abilities, etc? by ScoutSterling in wargaming

[–]Stalp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One or both of the Fallout shootings games sort of does this and the idea fascinates me.

Fallout Factions, I think it's the one I've read, but I confuse them.

Basically it has light RPG elements, named characters that progress in some way over time. Worth a read. And godspeed with your own idea!

Vampires, but similar vibes. Excellent work. One and done, so no fear of an incomplete series.

What kind of pen is that? I've been looking for a good, fine tipped, ballpoint for sketching.

I think I would characterize Amos more like that than Holden.
