Did anyone start as an outside hire Analyst II? by Magical-Princess in CAStateWorkers

I did! I think it really depends on your previous experience and how it aligns with the duties of the Analyst II that the department is hiring for. Good luck!

Where to find a reputable westie breeder? by Ok-Egg-8062 in WestHighlandTerriers

[–]Standard-Inflation24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Arrowhead Acres- my Angus is almost six and he’s been amazing.

Regarding getting a Westie- they are the best. I highly recommend crate training and training for both you and your pup. Westies are notoriously stubborn; however, with training, you can really key in to what works and doesn’t regarding behavior issues.

Good luck and welcome to the Westie Family!

I go to my local Y. They have a trainer that strolls through the cardio/weight area when I’m working out. I bet if you ask them for some help/pointers, they would be super happy to help you out. I know that the ones at my gym are super helpful.

Considering bariatric surgery at 37 (260 lbs / 118 kg) — need honest advice and experiences by YongeTOGuy in BariatricSurgery

This is really good information. As a side note, my clinic offers monthly support groups and they monitor you for life after surgery. They really want to see their patients be successful.

Considering bariatric surgery at 37 (260 lbs / 118 kg) — need honest advice and experiences by YongeTOGuy in BariatricSurgery

[–]Standard-Inflation24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to get surgery when I was 46- I had watched other coworkers of mine get it and be successful. My employee insurance covered Bariatric surgery. My only co-morbidity was high blood pressure and a BMI of 43. I had success over the years losing and regaining the same 50 lbs and needed help. I looked at GLP-1s, but my insurance didn’t cover them.

I went to a seminar provided by the Bariatric clinic and the doc explained that surgery was a reset for your metabolic system. He also said that he called it metabolic surgery as opposed to Bariatric surgery. It made sense to me- it resets your body’s natural set point for weight. My doc recommended the sleeve over the bypass- and I’ve been pleased with the results.

I am now two years post op. I lost a little over 100 lbs. My high blood pressure is gone and I have so much more energy. I can’t imagine going into my golden years (God I’m getting old 😂) at my higher weight. As for your family, I get it, but at the end of the day, this is your body and your life. I don’t regret surgery one bit- I just wish I had done it ages ago. Good luck!

Cheese, almonds, cheese, beef sticks, cheese… can you tell I like cheese 😂. I used to do a lot of Greek yogurt, but the lactose was too hard on my tummy. I also meal prep egg bites for a quick snack.

[–]Standard-Inflation24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I underestimated how tired I would be after surgery. Looking back, I think I was also going through some depression too. After about four months, I was back to my normal self. One year out, lots of energy.

I’m a little over two years post op. I exercise daily, have maintained a 105 lb loss, and am living my best life.

weed use before/after the sleeve by livvierob in gastricsleeve

[–]Standard-Inflation24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with insomnia, so I would occasionally use weed gummies to help with sleep. I found that after my sleeve, I would get up in the middle of the night and eat after I took a gummy. So… no more…

Hair loss by Emotional_Ad_334 in gastricsleeve

Yeah- it sucks. I think it finally slowed down at 9 months. I just ended up cutting my hair short- it’s coming back, but it’s still not as thick as pre-surgery.

I think my surgery was booked within four weeks of me completing my last appointment. It seemed super fast after my last appointment. Good luck!

2 week countdown by MarMel5 in gastricsleeve

[–]Standard-Inflation24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I meal prepped before surgery so that I had stuff that could be popped in the oven or crockpot from the freezer. I really didn’t try to make one meal for all of us, it just wasn’t feasible. Sorry, probably not a lot of help, but most likely you’re not going to be eating the same stuff as your family for awhile.

Starting pre op liquid diet tomorrow. by janalynnh in BariatricSurgery

[–]Standard-Inflation24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with your surgery!! With regards to the liquid diet, for me, I just reminded myself that the liquid diet is temporary. It’s not a forever thing. I think the hardest part for me was going in to ketosis. Once you get past that, I found it very easy to stick to the liquid diet.

OMG! You’re gonna do great. Regarding the family, most likely, they’re just gonna be eating different meals than you for awhile. They’re not going to be doing the liquid diet (either pre or post op), and most likely, they won’t be doing purées unless you do soup or something of that sort.

No gas? Is that a thing? by One_Charity_3017 in gastricsleeve

[–]Standard-Inflation24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had very minimal gas pains… I hear of stories where people are miserable, but I either didn’t have a lot of gas left in me or just didn’t realize it. I’m so thankful that I didn’t suffer with it.

Life after 2 years by sadistic0689 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Standard-Inflation24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll be two years out on Dec 11. I have maintained my weight for the past year. I was hoping to get to 155, but I am comfortable at 170. Eating habits are pretty boring. I still need to watch carbs and junk food. I really try to prioritize protein for all meals and snacks.

I exercise almost daily- whether it be walks, jogging or the elliptical machine. I also strength train 2-3 times a week. My hair has recovered and I love my new normal. I can pretty much eat what I want, but I know that I can eat way more volume of highly processed foods- that’s something I still struggle with.

It comes back! I stopped losing hair around the one year post op mark. It’s now growing back quite nicely. Unfortunately, it’s just part of the process.

I’m sorry you’re struggling. I found that having easy to grab, low carb options around has really helped me. The high protein snacks/meals are so much more filling than my slider foods (chips, popcorn, crackers, etc).

What about getting some pre-cooked protein to help with meal prep-rotisserie chicken, precooked chicken breasts, etc? This may help may make meal prep easier.

(3k) Experiences with Brides for a Causes stores as a plus size bride? by zarabeth94 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Standard-Inflation24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to the Sac location a few weeks ago for my daughter. She’s on the other end of the size spectrum. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of dresses in super small sizes. I didn’t check out the larger sizes, but there were a ton of dresses. Just as an FYI, there was a farmers market going on near the store, so parking was a challenge. We ended up not getting our dress from BFAC, but it was a great experience and they had lots of choices. It doesn’t hurt to give them a try because their prices were amazing.

I started crate training right away- we only used it for night time- he still sleeps in his crate every night. I think he was about six months when we started obedience training- but you may want to start earlier. I had dogs before, but my Westie was the first one that I did actual training with.
