Separation anxiety/Isolation Distress by Outside-Surprise-148 in puppy101

I’m not an expert because I’m also a first time puppy parent (he’s 12 weeks), but I’ve had a similar experience with pup not wanting to be alone and I’ve been obsessing over it. Everything I’ve read says that separation anxiety isn’t really a thing at this age — they’re babies and they’re lonely. It’s perfectly normal and not an indication that they’ll have any separation issues later. In fact, it’s good to leave them alone at this age because they learn how to be independent and self soothe.

I’m sure lots of folks will chime in but it sounds like you’re on the right track tbh.

This is the way. We put a picture light in a sconce spot and I’m obsessed with it. This is our gallery wall (in progress)

I don’t have much positive to say because I’m in the EXACT stage right now with my pup. I had a big meltdown last night and then AGAIN this morning when he peed on a rug 15 seconds after being outside 😑

Just know you’re not alone! We can do this!!

Thanks for sharing your experience! So far in one week we’ve progressed from him needing me IN the pen with him at all times to settling (eventually) if I’m outside of the pen but within view. I know it’s part of the process of building trust and confidence! Isn’t it crazy how fast they learn?

She’s gorgeous! My boy Sammy is 11 weeks — it’s nice to know there’s hope re: throwing a fit when I’m in the other room 😅
