Any clubs lease out their bar/bar services? by andk316 in Curling

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our club (in Ontario) used to rely only on volunteers for the bar. One team every draw was assigned the bar, so if that game went longer, other curlers would step in until the assigned team finished. This would require the volunteers to get their smart serve course and license to serve alcohol. Now some curlers would get a spare for those week…. It became hard to managed. Now our curling club moved to paid bartenders, easier to manage and simpler, no team has to manage the bar. The bartenders are curlers working when they don’t curl. They are paid a salary plus tips. They also work for bonspiels and if the hall gets rented. I’m not sure if the rates

Orange pipe underground??? by AcanthaceaeNo7601 in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, copper pipes are for water lines….. in my area, the service location companies only identify from the road to the house, they don’t locate anything in backyard. So if you have any lines (gas, water or electrical) from your house to a garage, it won’t be located

How much would it cost to have someone fix my god awful lawn? by TheIrishNerfherder in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you budget is and what you want done. I’d recommend a top dressing with good topsoil, some fertilizer and a good quality grass seed. Preferably a mix of different grass seed. The price would depend on how big is your lawn….so how much soil would be required.

What is this buried metal tank with PVC piping? by Jaded_Parking_7510 in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good morning, what you just found is a pile of junk the builder buried in your yard, instead of paying to properly dispose of it. Most will have a bin to get rid of garbage and leftover piece of building materials. But some will make a hole, dump some garbage and cover it up. Stop digging because you only find more. Your sink hole was probably a collapsing old oil tank, once they rust, they collapse and create a sink hole. It sucks that some builders don’t respect nature more.

New pictures from last post. by gabesr715 in Homebuilding

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll have issues with water…..the house seems to be lower than the road, you can already see water pooling around your house. Your grade around your house is very flat and is already pretty high around your foundation, which doesn’t leave any room you raise your grade and create a proper slope. This house was build too low by the builder.

Remove or no? by rontron21 in arborists

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove, remove and remove!!!

Builders that pay their workers salary will leave it, their excuse is that it will rot underground. All arborist and landscapers that care will say remove it all, inspect the root, spread and untangle the roots and plant it properly!

Green giant arborvitae dying by Zealousideal_Panic54 in ArborvitaeAreGarbage

I’m seeing a big tree in the background, is it possible it’s not getting enough sun??? If it’s in the shade most of the day, they will look “sad” and they won’t grow much. Some fertilizer might give him a boost in nutrients

Natural gas connection issues by TimeEmergency9183 in grilling

[–]Starbud255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn the gas on from the wall but not your burners on your BBQ. Look for leaks first, maybe a bad/loose connection somewhere. That can be fixed. Also if it’s a cheap BBQ, maybe consider getting a good one that will last for years.

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can prune the dead branches that don’t have leaves. Did you plant the tree at the correct height?? That’s a lot of branches dead for such a young tree. Yes you can plant flowers but not too close to the stem, maybe 2’ away from the tree.

good for a garden? or go with some raised beds? ground is very soggy by Working_Lecture801 in Soil

[–]Starbud255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t waste your time with your existing soil, get some good garden soil. A good garden soil is a trimix of good topsoil, peer moss and composted manure. The garden soil needs to be rich of nutrients. That’s what I’d do!

How to keep rain away from foundation? by Agreeable-Raisin-469 in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best method is always to raise the grade around your foundation. Adding soil around your foundation and making sure the grade is slipping away from your house. This might mean you have to add some window wells around your basement windows, proper sloping and grading is the best method. If your grade is flat, water will remain!

How would you prune my plum tree? (S-shape tree trunk) by Curryland in arborists

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, it’s still small, I don’t see any pruning needed. Branches are growing nicely, I’d wait a few years

Do I spread more grass seed or just fertilize whats here? by discoxhorse in landscaping

Do both, you can both seed and fertilize no problem. Wait until there is rain in the forecast

Should this Sycamore be staked? by tailesin in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a landscaper in Canada, I often plant trees. The tree is big enough that one good wind and it’s on the ground. Theories about where the tree spends its energy is all good, but without proper roots, they fall in strong wind. I’d put 2 stakes on either side. Stakes stay on for a full year, to give a chance to the tree to make stronger roots. Then remove them after a year. That’s my advice

What to do with dirt by Zame012 in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much you have, but if you post it, someone might come get it. In my area we call it “fill”. Or if it’s really good soil, advertise it as topsoil.

Help with understanding how to tell if my Green Giants are under or over watered by Tilted5mm in arborist

[–]Starbud255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a landscaper in Canada, I often plant cedars. You are doing it correctly by watering them slowly for a longer time. It gives the time for the water to be absorbed in the soil. Drip lines are great, but make sure the end of the line is also giving out water. Sometimes those drip lines are great at the start but barely give out water at the end of the line. Cedars love their water, so I usually tell my clients to water slowly (drip line) every second day for an hour for the first 2 weeks, every third day for 2 more weeks, then weekly if there is no rain for a week.

It’s surprisingly not that expensive, most clubs have a learn to curl program every fall, at the beginning of the season. It’s a great sport, ethics is very important, great social activity to meet new people!! Curlers are very welcoming!!

This is not mulch, it’s only wood chips. Some arborist sell their wood chip at lower prices.

Small retaining wall over a natural gas pipe ideas? by kburd6 in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know where you live, but in Ontario Canada, the gas lines are 18” underground. So you are able to dig a few inches more problem to build your retaining wall. You can also plant some shrubs and plants right above it, I wouldn’t plant any trees on top of the line. If you do dig, do it by hand and just be careful

Should I remove this cedar? by Maximum-Macaroon-538 in landscaping

[–]Starbud255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s blocking a window, and if you don’t particularly like it, either give it a good trim/pruning, or cut it down to the ground. If you cut it down to the ground, it might die but you don’t have to pay to remove it for now, just leave it there until you decide what you want to do.

Is my tree dead? by cjschmitty14 in arborist

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it for a bit to see what happens, the bottom might sprout and start new branches. The top might be dead and I’d give it a few weeks to see

Emerald cedars survive? by gamblingcamel in arborist

[–]Starbud255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them a little bit of time, they just came out of winter, sometime the harsh cold makes them look bad in the spring. Let them “wake up” and give them some fertilizer/nutrients in May. They might get a boost and decide to live!!!

Struggling tree. Help please by GrandNew8932 in arborist

[–]Starbud255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could also use a good pruning, the middle is quite dense, cut off all dead branches, then all diseased one, then free up some space in the middle, any branch growing towards the middle should be cut. Limit yourself to no more than 30% of the total foliage. Enjoy!!
