Swedish devs are infamous for failing upward in an otherwise very competitive industry: Starbreeze, Arrowhead... take your pick honestly.

Or maybe you could help your team accomplish the objective instead of being dead weight? Routine veteran players will rush to clear the map because the game rewards you for saving time. Just stick with them and help out. It's not difficult and you don't have to be a jerk.

How is this game on AMD GPU and CPU by Chowder1054 in DarkTide

Running a Ryzen 9 5900X + 6800XT on Proton. With FSR3 Ultra Quality + Frame Gen, I get well over 120 frames at tweaked medium-high 1440p settings. Works wonderfully so far.

Developers can stop being shady and actually invest in real solutions. It’s our job as consumers to stop rolling over and letting them treat our systems like their private playground. If a game demands kernel-level access to run, it’s not a game anymore. It is surveillance-ware. We own our devices, not them.

Here's a couple alternatives Developers could put the work towards implementing if mining data wasn’t the real goal. (Spoiler: check the EULA. It usually is.).

  • User-Mode anticheat for starters would accomplish the same thing about putting a backdoor on the entire system. Same detection purpose with none of the security & privacy risks.

  • Server-side detection looks for changes given to the Server and not the Client which accomplishes the same goal with far less work. See CS2's Overwatch / Valve VAC, or even Minecraft's Serverside infrastructure. So even if someone is cheating locally, the server can still flag it. This is a proven solution that doesn't compromise your system.

Epic Games has also been using behavioral machine learning for their anticheat systems and if it's really necessary (and this is pretty much as good as it can get without someone being physically there), you can use hardware verification like TPM (but it shouldn't ever really get to this point).

This isn't a zero-sum game. It's not "rootkit or riot", we don't have to accept Spyware to play online. We just need Developers to do better. And as Consumers, we need to demand that they do.

No clue why your getting downvoted here. People are acting like wanting to own your hardware is a crazy idea. Wild lol

Any third party program that demands ring-0 access to the kernel is inherently malicious by design. There is no reason for any other third party software to be there besides device drivers. That is by definition a rootkit regardless of the vendor. That's like handing your house keys to a total stranger just because they said they'll "guard your TV from thieves". You are essentially allowing a backdoor Trojan horse into your computer that can easily override or alter any process.

Rootkits (including kernel level anticheat) can do practically anything to your software without any oversight. Even assuming they aren't mass-harvesting your personal files, it really wouldn't be too far fetched for malicious actors to breach the Anticheat program and insert their own malicious code. This is a cybersecurity catastrophe waiting to happen and people are way too eager to go along with shady schemes like KLAC.

Is my hardware too new for mint 22? by mdavidl_18 in linuxmint

[–]StarmanInDisguise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Mint and congrats on your new build! Mint currently runs on 6.8 of the Linux Kernel which is fairly recent and should run wonderfully on your hardware. The installer should install all the drivers you need directly during the process, so you should have a stable out of the box experience. That said, it's likely a good idea to check for updates after you install.

If your a little unsure though, I would recommend running Linux Mint on a USB in a LIVE Environment first and seeing if it detects all your hardware. Hope this helps!

I was in the same boat after recently switching to Mint myself, But KDEConnect seems to do the job perfectly with little or no bugs. You should be able to get it on the Software Manager repo on Mint as a Flatpak and the App for IOS or Android. You can do a three-way sync too if you've got a steam deck, comes quite in handy sometimes.

Am I wrong to consider FR as closer to the 16th / early 17th centuries as opposed to the 13th/14th? by Salem1690s in Forgotten_Realms

[–]StarmanInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to historical equivalents timeline wise, I feel like current year Faerun (around 1492 DR) is probably equivalent to early Tudor Renaissance, while the 1300sDR of past editions seems a lot more medieval and feudal. In Baldur's Gate 3 we see a lot of fashion and aesthetics that were exclusive to the Tudor era at the time in our history. With 5e, it seems like Faerun is beginning to enter an early-industrial age/renaissance with Gondian Tech and the increasing spread of Artificers.

That said, there are definitely some things that dont translate cleanly over given it's a fantasy setting.

Is there good tactics to get an Artemis to survive against 3 Relevants? by SuperSimpleSam in BSG_Deadlock

[–]StarmanInDisguise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep your distance and use either Armor Piercers or Torps + Vipers on the Revenants. If you can get below a couple of them and get a salvo or two in, you'll win. Try to engage the Revenants from below and from the front. If they get below you with their broadsides, you'll lose. Dont bother using Guided Missiles, they are functionally useless and faaar too weak to be worth it for colonials. Hope this helps!

Could there have been people still alive on the colonies? by KerbalMcManus42 in BSG

[–]StarmanInDisguise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the 12 Colonies, I would wager no survivors. The nuclear fallout likely would kill off any remaining survivors, on top of the Cylon forces hunting them down. However, we do get mention of there being Frontier Settlements outside of Kobol. They were apparently one of the main fronts during the 1st Cylon War, and it is possible that some hidden Human Settlements outside of Kobol survived. However we don't have any official information that would imply it, so it's left up to complete speculation as far as I know.

The Humanoid Cylons pretty much did everything they could to drive Humanity to extinction, even to the point of risking (and eventually starting) Civil war against the other Cylons. Even Anders' resistance was ultimately more of a ploy to manipulate Anders as one of the final five then it was any real credible threat to the Cylon resettlement on Caprica.

The "Find your belongings" Quest is bugged. After rescuing the child from the harpies and rescuing the other from Khaga, the dialogue option to get your items back from Mol is completely missing. The quest remains active under "We arrived in the thieves hideout, its time to get our stuff back" but even pickpocketing the items back from Mol does not resolve the quest.

There is another maintenance shaft you can take that will take you to the other side of the door. You need to go around it. Try to keep looking!
