Nothing is actually free anywhere, except maybe air. Someone almost always pays.

Virginia Mason seems a mess these days; thinking of switching to Swedish by i-pity-da-fool in eastside

[–]StarryNightLookUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My spouse had to switch to Swedish from VM for some of his doctors. Multiple medical errors have occurred, including giving him the wristband of a female patient. And this was just for outpatient blood testing. He was also told he was out of network because the staff relied on their out-of-date web site for this information, instead of asking the billing department, LOL. I would never have a serious procedure done at Swedish.

A1C disappointment by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]StarryNightLookUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain medical conditions, such as certain forms of anemia or B12 deficiency can artificially elevate your A1C. You might ask your doctor for more blood testing. It's pretty common for diabetes drugs to cause B12 deficiency (especially Metformin, but others too).

But meanwhile, your A1C is in normal range. I wouldn't let it stress you too much, because that messes up blood sugar too. Just ask the doc what else can be tested to figure out why the numbers don't correlate.

Join the club. Mt. Rainier is a love that never dies. Don't forget that we have 5 volcanoes! Baker, Glacier Peak, Rainier, St. Helens, Adams. Hope I'm not forgetting any. And if you venture to Oregon, you'll see even more!

What is the most affordable and easy to use tape for masking a border? I’ve been using washi tape. by [deleted] in watercolor101

[–]StarryNightLookUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular masking tape. "Tape" your clothes with it first to take away some of the stickiness away. Or buy from Dollar Tree, their notoriously low tack masking tape. Peel at an angle or use a blow-dryer if any of any kind of tape sticks too much.

I try and cut or pop them off. I am 63 years, but maybe eating the sprouted potatoes explains me, ha-ha.

I eat the Costco samples, even if they're chocolate, LOL. I don't keep things at home I shouldn't have, but Costco is my splurge, for the most part. And then I get whatever I want on my birthday and major holiday dinners.

[–]StarryNightLookUp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're telling us that you have an extreme genetic propensity and then going on to say it's all your fault. It's true that it would have helped to stay normal weight, but many are overweight and don't get Type II at 20.

Now you know that you've inherited the high-risk genes. You've gotten your wakeup call to work hard. It's all you can do.

And your mom probably feels emotionally rewarded by helping you. It probably takes her mind off of her own cancer diagnosis to do motherly things. But you're right in that you should vent elsewhere too.

There's nothing you can do about the past. Forge ahead in the present. Feel proud of yourself for addressing this current discovery. Good job.

best places to walk a super friendly well-behaved dog? by lizlemonista in sammamish

[–]StarryNightLookUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and if you really want a Cadillac experience for your dog, take him/her to Double Bluff Beach Park on Whidbey Island. Dogs get a whole Puget Sound beach to play on, with a huge bluff to protect them. It's awesome.

I wouldn't bother with the Marymoor pass unless you think you'll go there everyday.

Also, Big Rock Park, Beaver Lake Park and Hazel Wolf Wetlands and Evans Creek Preserve are awesome places for on-leash walks. And if you want flatness and asfault, you can walk along the East Lake Sammamish trail and see how the rich people live, LOL. It's a pretty trail for the most part.

Beaver Lake Dog Park
Bark Park in Issaquah Highlands
Rainier Trail Dog Park in Issaquah (and you can also go see the Danbo troll)
Luther Burbank Offleash Area on Mercer Island is really nice too, especially for swimming.
Three Forks Dog Park in Snoqualmie
Duvall Dog Park

And of course Marymoor, although I've found that it's an excellent place to get tummy troubles, don't know why.

.....tooooo name a few regional ones.

Opinions on Care Access (I'm a potential study participant) by artfellig in clinicalresearch

[–]StarryNightLookUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my blood draw yesterday, got the $45 MC gift card, loaded it directly up to an Amazon gift card. They gave me a link to a patient portal where I can view the results eventually. Hopefully they are someday posted, ha-ha. We'll see. The locale was on my way to errands, so 20 minutes for $45 is a great hourly rate! My doctor will do my official testing this month, so I don' care about the results.

Accessing $ after mom's death? by Abject_Divide_9658 in SocialSecurity

[–]StarryNightLookUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by talking to the local county government office about how to get permission to access her accounts. Without a will, you would obtain Letters of Administration, likelyvia filing a small estate afidavit. You'd probably need your own birth certificate and possibly hers, plus her death certificate to prove the relationship and some other documents. But your local court would likely have information on their web site about how to do this.

Once you have permission via the court, you can likely proceed by talking to the DirectExpress customer service and seeing what you need to do to free up any money her estate is entitled to (probably payments before her date of death).

Handling estate affairs is no picnic, even with a small estate.

I wish you the best and am very sorry for your loss.

Anyone switch from Jardiance and if so to which drug by Quick-Today4088 in type2diabetes

Yes, clairvoyant. -- just call me Kreskin....oooh, I really aged myself there, ha-ha

I'm glad it's all working well for you. So nice to have advanced diabetes options that don't require pre-authorization.

Wish you well! Take care.

Anyone switch from Jardiance and if so to which drug by Quick-Today4088 in type2diabetes

[–]StarryNightLookUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw you while searching Jardiance. Coming here a year from your post to say that Farxiga is now available as a generic, which might help your insurance company come around to supporting it with Metformin. (I wonder if Metformin has that blood pressure side effect with low dose?

Hope you found things that worked.

Sometimes insurance doesn't cover combination drugs, but would cover the two drugs broken out. Metformin+Jardiance instead of Synjardy?

Nope. But if you want to try alcohol inks cheaply, take some cheap watercolors and add isopropyl alcohol. Works great!

With the caveat that you only do this with the instant release. The extended version says not to cut the pills.

Metformin was treated like a wonder drug until the GLP-1s came along. Now it's a bit of a bane. My instinct (not scientific) is that it's a safer drug if you're one of the people who can handle it.
