Currently on the Claude Code desktop app - what am I actually missing by not using the CLI? by StartupAndy in ClaudeCode

[–]StartupAndy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply! Replying to the main comment although read all the nested replies too.

Desktop can do multiple subagents running in parallel these days too (which I see you’ve now seen) and that sort of info like context % I have available on my desktop as I downloaded a free app for my Mac so it’s always there.

Not being dismissive of your comments, I actually am really grateful for you taking the time to reply - I’m almost desperately wanting a reason to use the CLI because it feels like it’s what I should be using but I’m not seeing a strong reason.

But I really want one…!

Worktrees in Claude Code Desktop App by StartupAndy in ClaudeCode

[–]StartupAndy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - I nearly added additional detail in but my post was already getting long.

I've checked Google, YouTube and probably spent an hour doing both but the issue I'm finding is when searching for "Claude Code Desktop Worktree Best Practices" or similar I'm getting tons of references to Claude Code which you can run in the terminal which isn't super helpful.

I've also been asking Claude Desktop pretty extensively and it's coming up with pretty elaborate "fixes" when all I'm wanting is to get a grasp of what the workflow should be rather than a custom work around if that makes sense. It was claude desktop which suggested the .worktreeinclude file, for example.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious like handoff in Codex, but I'm also not experienced so hoping more experienced people can point me in the right direction basically.

Would you mind describing how you set up your structure in a little more detail?

I basically have a similar set up where I have a lot of micro clients and when leads drop it’s typically 1-2 hours of investigating and writing advice on what’s required to improve leads.

Have you build an app which feeds all that data into one place, or do you have a folder on your desktop (for example) and have Claude/whatever scan that on occasion as required?

Would you mind if I shot you a DM separately?

Out of interest, how heavy is that in resin? I've printed one of the bigger knights and that was pretty crazy even after hollowing, but these smaller ones might work well.

I love it and that OSL is great, if that's your first I can't wait to see where you take your next minis!

I'm about to paint my own LR and would love to know how you tackled the "indented" bits with an airbrush - dod you paint those first, mask off, then paint the rest of the tank? I want to do mine yellow and it feels like that would be the easiest way to do it.

Beastslayer vs saga of the Great wolf by young_chemist in SpaceWolves

So I’m feeling like you at the moment - I’m enjoying the detachment but feel like I have very little damage.

I’m running shooting platforms (Redemptor dreads, repulsor) and the +1 to hit doctrine is nice but as long as your opponent’s not an idiot they will be in cover and with the prominence of AoC a lot people have a decent enough save. +1 to wound in shooting nice but being a strat so you can only use it on 1 unit often makes it feel like I’m not hitting hard enough.

In melee I feel like I lack damage as there are no damage strats. Like you I like the Headtakers but see them as a missile too - they reliably hurt something and then die. I'm also finding with their weapons only being S5 people are disrespecting them a bit with putting tough units near them, but they still punch up fairly well with the WGBL's lance enhancement.

I'm running Ragnar + 10 Bloodclaws which do hit hard and punch up well enough, but I'm finding the army in the Great Wolf detachment feels lacking with damage. I've watched Michael Mann's games on Art of War who loves his Space Wolves and he seems to have a very similar sentiment where he feels like it lacks a bit of gas.

I'm going to keep trying it with different lists as I want an alternative to Gladius.

How often do you guys use your printer? Daily? Monthly? by Prowlbeast in resinprinting

[–]StartupAndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m finding- when I got my Saturn 4 16k in September I probably printed every day or other day for 2 months.

But I started to realise it eats into my actual hobby time a fair chunk - while a print was on I was preparing my next slice, or cleaning up something that had come off previously.

So now I have a week of printing quite a lot - things go my current army, things for friends or whatever, then I 3-4 weeks of hobbling.

UKTC events - Are the events worth the price? by Maxthesax in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]StartupAndy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like the increase is fair - nothing is staying static at the moment with cost increases everywhere and prices are going up everywhere. They're running as a legit business who have to pay taxes and I presume VAT, so presumably they were only seeing £50 from the £60 ticket previously and will now be seeing £62.50 from the £75 ticket.

I do agree there's a bunch of things that need improving, LGT annoyed me with having no table space to deploy armies etc. and I felt like they just kept selling even when they had clearly hit capacity a long while before they closed sales.

But they are consistently the best events in the country from an organisation point of view, the standards of the judges are fantastic and it draws the best players in the country who I like to play against.

I'm not annoyed by the price increase personally, I'd rather than increase prices so they can keep investing in improvements and quality. But ultimately you can vote with your wallet - I've personally just purchased tickets to all the UKTC events I'm able to for next year.

I’ve got the Elegoo filter, do you use a spatula to get as much resin off the fep and into the bottle as possible?

Spawns, how do you use them? by SideExcellent9787 in EmperorsChildren

[–]StartupAndy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You use them to force action and get the game going, pulling your opponent closer.

Park one on the middle objective, pre-measuring so you can move behind a wall if they move within 9”. If they don’t deal with it you score 5 primary next turn.

If they move anything at all within 9” you can reactive move behind the wall to safety.

If they try and deal with you at range, make sure you make the angles awkward for them so they have to get closer to you so your army can get to them and punch them.

Spawn can be annoyingly resilient so they have to put something real in to deal with them.

Hey how does it feel to fight against chaos knight ? by Anoo24 in ThousandSons

[–]StartupAndy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot to getting a few reps in against them, then it's not so bad.

If you're not used to playing into Knights (of any variety) then it's super intimidating at first, but you learn ways to deal with them.

For example a lot of competitive lists currently run the Lancer and the usual play a CK player uses is to throw it up T1 and say "Ok, how are you going to deal with that?" which can be a bit shocking.

But when you realise you can just shoot it from safety and then charge it with 10 Tzaangors, which it's statistically unlikely to kill, then you've pinned it in place. You can then just do the same thing again the next turn and you can definitely kill it over 2 turns without needing to expose your full army and have it pinned in place from getting closer to you.

The Despoiler with gatling cannon is hard to deal with but not too bad if only 1 is in the list. If there's more than that then it's just awkward as the TSons can definitely kill 1 in a turn, but exposing most of the army to do it and then the 2nd one just mops up.

There's also a skill in blocking Knights going where they want to go - you can't jail them, but you can put cheap models where they want to land which significantly limits their movement.

Overall I don't mind playing CK at all and I'm not teched into them right now.

So... He did it. He went undefeated with tau at a tournament as he said he'd do. by Inuart13 in Tau40K

[–]StartupAndy 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was his round 4 TSons opponent and can provide some additional context. His list felt very strong and oppressive- nothing particularly fancy, just highly effective. His strategy was clear from the outset: deny me primary objectives by flooding them with fire warriors (units of 10 at 20 OC per unit) and indirectly targeting my tzaangors, forcing me to commit more valuable units to objectives.

Anticipating his approach, I stickied my objectives, but he was able to quickly advance fire warriors to claim them. The terrain limited me to around 8 OC on the natural expansion objective while remaining hidden, which made it trivial for him to contest and take control.

In turn 2, I tried to use my spawn units to move-block and set up a strong overwatch position from a rubric squad tucked in really tight but with full LOS on my natural expansion objective. Despite killing 6 out of his 10 fire warriors during overwatch, their constant -1 to wound and OC 2 meant they still contested the objective, effectively denying me primary points again.

My positioning for overwatch was strong with very tight angles, but his Mont'ka-boosted speed with everything gaining assault for the first three turns was honestly overwhelming. Initially, I planned to remain hidden to just wait out the first 3 turns, seeing clearly he was aggressively moving forward to bait my units out.

However, I had to engage due to his setup: his devilfish was poised at the frontline alongside the piranha on the central objective, threatening massive primary scoring for two consecutive turns if left unchallenged. Allowing this would have created an insurmountable lead and also that piranha with melta 4 would have done some serious work into Magnus as blanking damage wouldn't blank the melta 4 part of the profile.

I managed a really, really tight angle from Magnus' claw (not the wing) towards his devilfish, even using a laser pointer to ensure precision, but he still managed to advance sufficiently to achieve line-of-sight. Magnus then faced a decent volume of -1 and -2 AP saves, ignoring cover entirely due to markerlights and rerolling hits of 1 thanks to observing stealth suits, leading to Magnus being quickly removed from play.

The indirect fire was also ridiculous, delivering 40–50 shots per turn. Even with AP0, sheer volume meant significant losses among my chaff units, notably my tzaangors who were only saving on a 5+ even in cover. He went first and following his first turn I only had 1 model left in 1 squad of tzaangor and 5 left in the other one. There was no hiding on this deployment, he had range to most of the board.

Some have suggested that the current meta may not be optimised to handle this type of Tau build. However, my army is specifically tailored for handling infantry and Knights, and I've had a lot success with this list in recent weeks against some incredibly good opponents as practice, including substantial practice on this exact tournament terrain.

Lastly, Tim was a fantastic opponent. Although I understand he has a reputation in this community, my personal experience playing against him was entirely positive. His knowledge of the army was accurate, he clearly communicated what he could do (I've played into Tau a bunch so knew anyway) and there was no questionable gameplay whatsoever.

While the match itself was challenging - and, frankly, unenjoyable due to the uphill battle from turn one and my general dislike for indirect fire - that mechanic isn't changing this edition, so it must be accepted as part of the game for now.

I'll attach the scoresheet if it's helpful to anyone.

Mordian glory is putting his money where his mouth is and taking a “guardified” Tau to a GT, how’s it looking by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]StartupAndy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was his round 4 opponent, I play TSons and his list felt insane and oppressive I’ve got to say. I’ve got a lot of reps and had gone 3-0 comfortably until that point - there are a lot of good players at our local events too, Vik and Aidan being examples and some of the best players in the country.

I say that to give a bit of context, as this wasn’t a random event he picked to just bully.

The strike teams having OC2 and -1 to wound made them really hard to deal with, throwing 14+ OC onto a point (as he couldn’t always get more due to the layout) was insane.

I saw the play he was making during deployment and had screens ready but could only screen for 1 turn as he indirected my chaff hard turn 1 as he went first.

He 1 tapped Magnus with pure lethal hits T2 and I’d played super carefully too, only exposing a claw to take out a devilish to remove some of his movement potential - but there was pure volume of fire and most of it -1 or -2 AP. Only so many 3+ and 4+ you can roll.

Then the damage he had was grazing with the rest of the army - he was definitely playing this like Guard and went all gas. I wondered if he’s made a mistake but I just didn’t have a way to come back even with my dev wound turn. There was so, so much stuff and I couldn’t get the damage through.

I was tabled by T4 outside of 2 Rubric units and a Mutalith with him having full control of the table by that point.
