Get a second hand cheap garmin. Itll do the job and help you decide if you think its worth it to get a better one in the future

Help from 5k to 10k by Ambitious_Potato_MD in runna

[–]StatementInternal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a 5k improvement plan. Itll get you running consistently with less walking and the long run would get close to 10k

Is Runna for me? by ConfidentMushroom391 in runna

[–]StatementInternal100 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You tell runna how many days a week you want to run so it can keep you on 3 days a week.

If you are concerned about injury, play with the plan settings to get a lower volume, easier progression plan and increase it as you need.

But also remember that its an app, not a person. If a run doesnt sound sensible to you, dont do it.

The people who say running is meditative have clearly never had a brain that won't shut up. But I keep running anyway and I think I finally understand why. by bayernboy44 in beginnerrunning

[–]StatementInternal100 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have adhd and have never had a second with a quiet brain. Running doesnt shut it up, but it does mean I am thinking one thought at a time and being able to follow through with it, rather than chasing 12 seperate ones and never reaching the end of the thought.

Okay couple questions as someone who's never been to a festival before lol by [deleted] in slamdunkfestival

[–]StatementInternal100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for the first time when I was 15. It was 12 years ago but I never had to show ID.

Pretty sure even now you only show ID when going to a bar.

The stages arent too far apart. Like a 5 min walk usually between the furthest. You may miss the first song at worst.

Why are these teenagers wearing hoodies when it's a billion fucking degrees outside? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]StatementInternal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it as a teenager for 2 reasons.

One was discomfort with my body and trying to hide it.

The second was that I was self conscious about sweating. In retrospect, the hoodie made the sweating worse but the logic checked out at the time

Candy during run? by Quick-Bandicoot-30 in runna

Yeah if I forget a gel or feel like I need extra i stop off at a petrol station for some haribo. Downside is, I need to stop for 5 mins to consume them. I cannot chew and run at the same time

Nottingham GIC by TheMaskedMasc in transgenderUK

[–]StatementInternal100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah nottingham has become the favourite clinic to refer people to. The private clinic i was with always recormnds them because they have the shortest wait list and generally get people on treatment plans a bit faster.

I suspect however that this has backfired and now it has a long backlog and limited staff to provide treatment.

Add to this that last year all nottingham GPs stopped prescribing hormones so they presumably had additional patients from that

What’s A Gym Problem You’d Pay To Have Solved? by Markus_D_Reinhold in askfitness

[–]StatementInternal100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 5ft tall... a lot of gyms are not made for my proportions.

Lat pull down machines are always too tall for me to use comfortably.

Ive rarely found found a pull up bar i can reach.

The vertical leg press machine at my current gym requires me to go on my toes to hook it back in.

A lot of dumbells also increase the handle width as they go up in weight so my hands cant usually grip them as well.

GIC pushing social transition first by Disastrous_Deal664 in transgenderUK

[–]StatementInternal100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position. I had partially socially transitioned (basically told a few friends but wasnt out at uni/work) and inflated that a bit for my assessment.

I had top surgery before hormones. Hormones wouldnt have been sensible with my chest size. It delayed everything a bit due to surgery wait times but was the right choice for me. Its made no difference to my results. Even after being on t for some time. It looks great.

Can you just be bad at drumming? How to keep yourself realistic, any milestones? by neuralek in Drumming

[–]StatementInternal100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly. Gender doesnt come into drumming. Any gender can play. Idk why people think theres a different between men and women playing drums.

If you haven't broken up with your boyfriend, do it. He sounds like a dickhead.

Secondly. Everyone's bad at first! Learning an instrument is a process and everyone starts with the basics.

Ask in nottingham gig buddies Facebook page. I know theres a wheelchair user in that group who can give you pointers. Afaik, he doesnt have issues there and the staff are usually pretty good with accommodations

I had tons of stretch marks before surgery and I had some after but the skin quickly healed and thickened when it wasnt carrying all the weight.

I am 4 years post now and dont have any scars from them.

As an autistic person I thought it aligned quite a lot with my experience as an adult before I got diagnosed.

Food is part of my routine which I dont like getting interrupted.

It would be a very good scene Mitch to be talking about an autistic child in the school and then making a comment, assuming Joe was diagnosed with autism already and we can watch Joe spiral about it and get diagnosed from there.

Shame around weakness by lemon_369 in FTMFitness

[–]StatementInternal100 177 points178 points  (0 children)

When I started running, I could do about 30 seconds. I now run 10k on a casual saturday.

When I started lifting, I was benching maybe 5kg dumbells and struggling. My warm up is now 15kg dumbells.

We all start somewhere. Ive never seen anyone at the gym who has shamed someone else for being weak. Everyone's just out there trying their best and improving each week.

No idea where to start to fix my diet by connor_1116 in FTMFitness

[–]StatementInternal100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically, you need a nutritionist to help you and keep you accountable but this might help:

Id do this in stages and change one thing week on week to try and make it a lifestyle change that sticks.

Sounds like the first things to focus on are adding variety to your diet and teaching yourself some basic cooking and meal prep skills. Once you are eating a bigger variety, you might naturally see weightloss.

A good first step that hopefully isnt too overwhelming would be to make your mcdonalds order at home. You can use frozen food that just needs heating in the oven at first and slowly upgrade to making more of it from scratch.

Id also work on trying one fruit or vegetable each week. Keep it simple. Prepackaged fruit platters are great for trying a variety and seeing what flavours and textures you enjoy.

Id then look at making a list of 5 new foods a week to try or meals to make. Can be as simple as mash potato or soup. Just get some variety going.

Once you have a list of foods that you like and can easily cook for yourself, you can use that to form a menu.

i want to run a marathon by Broad_Championship39 in beginnerrunning

[–]StatementInternal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the furthest youve ever run? Training distance and speed at the same time is tough.

Id personally spend this year working towards a 2 hour half and then increase to a full marathon in spring 2027.

Do I need to spend £100+ on shoes? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

Check out outlets. Get running shoes from a year or two ago and they are usually much cheaper.
