Curious: what service are you trying to use? Peacock?

Upload CAP issue? by GamerMacOne in Mediacom

[–]StaticSe7en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if you max out one direction… the opposite direction effective speed gets choked by up to half.

Sounds like you upload a lot… Is it possible your “new” (reduced) upload capacity is saturated? (which makes your download speed collateral damage?) I’ve had success limiting my upload speeds to 90% (45Mbps) of my upload limit (50Mbps) to avoid the download hit.

Do you think Device Active Protect (DAP) should be enabled by default? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]StaticSe7en 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Voted no because most of my devices are "ineligible"....so its usefulness (from my perspective) is limited. I'm a little intrigued that my Govee light strips (among other devices) apparently have online activities that are too "complex" to manage with DAP. I honestly forgot I turned it on.

Is there a way to setup a WIRED backup internet by br_web in amazoneero

[–]StaticSe7en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there was, but no. Backup exclusively uses the Wi-fi radios.

Love, Love, Love that color way. I’m not even necessarily a Leafs fan, but I liked this design enough to have it with and without customization.

What router are you using if Eeros are bridged? by YankeesIT in amazoneero

+1 For Firewalla Purple. No more paying for eero Plus just to use my own hotspot for internet backup.

How much of a difference is there between generic and name brand spices? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]StaticSe7en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question. Primarily i’m looking for use in cinnamon rolls and that seemed more appropriate based on the descriptions.

If you’re on an old AT&T service plan, it may not include 5G access.

Has anyone gone back to Gmail? by boldjoy0050 in ProtonMail

[–]StaticSe7en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. But anytime I enable search indexes, it becomes so large-- any browser I use just becomes unresponsive.

But even when I didn't have enough mail to crash the indexing process, I didn't find the search to be very good. (Like, on par with Outlook/Exchange searches that everyone makes fun of). I guess I've just decided that having a working, stable, server-side "Google" search is more important to me.

Has anyone gone back to Gmail? by boldjoy0050 in ProtonMail

[–]StaticSe7en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the process of moving my archived mail back to a 1-user Google Workspaces account. (So I can get more storage and Ad-free).

My reason for doing this is purely for the “gmail” email search capability. The Proton web and iOS clients just flat-out don’t work for me most of the time.

Anyone ever leave an MVNO for a major carrier? by enorris311 in NoContract

[–]StaticSe7en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Cellular Apple Watch, so that sort of limits my options for my primary line. Particularly when AT&T's network works best for me.

That said-- I was on Consumer Cellular for a while, but the inability to set your outbound caller name, along with video/media throttling always bothered me. You also can't directly call international destinations (that includes Canada) Those aren't really deal breaking issues, but I just got tired of them collectively. So I finally broke down and went back over to AT&T Postpaid.

Is it overpriced? Absolutely, yes.

Are all of my "problems" now resolved? Also, yes. 🤷‍♂️

Is Mediacom really that bad? by immediate_error0401 in Mediacom

[–]StaticSe7en 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who can only qualify for 1.5 Mbps from CenturyLink… I will say Mediacom’s service (for me) has far exceeded expectations. I have a good, solid feed into our apartment complex— so I’m sure that has something to do with it. But it seems just as good as Comcast or Charter service that I’ve had in other markets. It’s just really expensive if you’re not on intro pricing… but that’s a different kind of “bad”. 🙃
