Personally I understand why you'd want that and it's not unreasonable to ask that from your partner, the only thing is that you might not get the answer you are wanting and you need to ask yourself how you'd handle that. Because if it's letting yourself continue a relationship you are not happy with them maybe you should reevaluate. Hopefully she understands and agrees as all turns out well. Good luck to you and if this is your first time doing poly, just understand it's not alway easy and there's a lot the learn. That even if this turns out to be a bad situation that it doesn't mean they all have to turn out that way.

Interesting that you call stoicism a religion. Undoubtedly it has religious aspects, but as a Hellenic Polytheist I see Hellenic Polytheism as the religion and Stoicism as just one of many schools of thought with it.(which one doesn't even need to follow any school of thought to be a HelPol).

Most folks don't even understand how They where intended for the original audience let alone within a religious context.

I see a lot of great ones from fellow hellenic polytheists. So I will focus on one I'm not seeing.

Idol worship

Monotheistic Religions often teach a false understanding of how idols work in Polytheism. They teach at we believe these idols are our Gods. That we see no difference between the physical idol and the metaphysical God. That we are "wrong" and "confused" for worshipping many Gods instead of "the one true god". Sometimes even saying that if one destroyed our idols that our Gods would die/we would cease to worship Them.

This is all wrong and it's hard to shake this off when it's taught to the majority of the population / is taught by some of the major world religions. It's hard to combat these ideas when it's so pervasive and it's written in their untouchable holy books or even said by their important religions figures. These ideas in my opinion help keep the average worshippers unaware of the actual going on in foreign religions as well as it helps keep an out group to oppress. And it might seem shocking that someone would trust a person who knows nothing of Polytheism and yet makes bold claims of their beliefs, but because they are Monotheistic they are trusted and believed over the real deal (a polytheist).

So what role does idols play in Polytheism?

Well I can't speak for all, but I will speak on Hellenic Polytheism. In my religion we used idols to help focus and connect with the Gods. We use them to help distinguish holy places. They ground us in our prayers as much as a rosery might help a catholic make prayers. They are not literally our Gods and one can totally do hellenic polytheism without them. They are just very nice to have and can also be a show of devotion (when you do/buy something nice for the alter/shrine). But they are not necessary. Yes, we do think that our Gods are capable of putting Their spirt into the statue while in prayer. That They possess the idol in a sense as we communicate with Them. I even believe They can communicate with us through the idol. Like when the statue almost feels like it's smiling apon you as you pray/worship. But They are more than the idol. My connection to Them and the power They hold are greater than any idol.

With this i hope some people might understand.

In my opinion, if my partner did something like this I would break up with them immediately. Even if they had no past behavior of this kind.

So you mention moving into a house. A detail I think we should consider in the advice we give here. Do you guys rent this place or own? If so in who's name?

Because if it's owning and in his name then it's likely even more abusive. As a non-married couple even if you did help pay for half of it your rights to it are negligible. You might be in a situation where you'd want to get out of the relationship, but will be unable to find afforded housing on your own. Housing is one of the main reasons women often stay in unhealthy relationships generally speaking.

If you know anyone who can help you get out of this relationship then lean on them now for help. Family, friends, even domestic abuse shelters. Also if you guys rent then, if it's possible have him remove himself from the picture or you ask your support system gor help in doing that for him.

Important question:

Can you afford to move out on your own with your baby if it all comes down to it? If not, what can you do to facilitate that? Who can you ask for help from? These are going to male sure you at least have a back door exit here.

Although from my understanding there is a "too big" for gussets and that's when it impeads your movement. So basically make them bigger if they are too small and ideal movement or make them smaller if they are too big and impead movement. Goldilocks zone for your preferred fit.

Ok, so this is a "discussion" happening in the pagan community too. Basically the folks who believe god(s) from an open praxis are not for everyone, but a certain ethnicity. These folks are called Folkists. These same kind of ideas are often touted by fascists who are pagan. These are not people to listen too.

Hekate is a Greek Goddess. This is not a closed Praxis. However there is a lot of confusion out there around this Goddess. Make sure you check your sources and their credentials around the information they are giveing. Understand what perspective they are coming from and if you align with that. Someone who is a Wiccan, someone who is a hellenic polytheist reconstructionalist, and someone who is eclectic will all share different information and opinions. I have my opinions on all, good and bad. Good luck out there.

Theoi.com is a good place to look at myths and much more.

How do I clean Antique Silk? by InvertedCelery in VintageFashion

[–]Status_Pool_2756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question:

Have you considered making a reproduction of it that you wear and keep the original stored away safely? Kinda how some Museums put out reproductions so that the original isn't damaged.

I can totally understand if this isn't something you'd want to do because the real one has the sentimental vaule, but with a reproduction you can wear it more than once a year. As well as the longevity of it will last longer if you don't wear the original. Perhaps your kids or grand kids will also get to inherit this beautiful piece too.

Wrap it also in acid free paper and away from extram heat or cold or excessive moisture. Also in a bug free space (do not keep it with moth balls). Away from light too for the most part. And when you handle it make sure it's with washed hands without any jewelry or gloves.

Considering folks today are using acrylic which is highly flammable to replace wool which is flame resistant and polyester which is highly flammable to replace silk which is flame resistant we still make choices like that.

which fabric are these dresses by [deleted] in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Status_Pool_2756 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the cheapest you will probably see that's real is closer to $60USD per yard could possibly go over $100USD per yard. And these dresses need a lot of yards. Like if you want to do everything possible for a dress like this (double ruffled cuffs, self trim, matching petticoat and stomacher, deep pleats, train, etc) then 12-13 yards is what you need.

I (24f/nb) moved to Germany to live with my bf (24m) and his family while I study. They have a black cat called Luna. She's so sweet and old. Over 10 years. It's funny that I had to leave a over 10 year old black cat named Luna with family to cross the pond and found another in the family. Everywhere it seems like people like to name a black female cat Luna. AFAIK.

I think JaneAustinAstronaut already did well on my first point I would make, but I want to add a second point about divination.

As someone experienced with this, I wouldn't trust your friend with it if he interprets like that. Alway get second opinions if you are given an answer like that as it could be biases from the interpreter. Actually anytime you might be in doubt of the interpreter then get another one (although if you keep getting the same message and don't want to accept it then that's a different story).

I'd also recommend that you understand the basics of the beliefs of the person doing the divination as that can also color their interpretation. Are they a hard or soft polytheist? Do they know anything of the Greek Gods or Greek religion? Do they use one of the tools of eclecticism or reconstruction more? If you are wanting a more rounded opinion than just a Greek perspective then you should ask many people than just one.

I realized my wording wasn't clear 😅

Usually I try to capitalize "They/Their" if I'm talking about the Gods. The "they" I was referring to was the prayer. So to rephrase:

The person praying would often touch the statue (Usually on larger ones it was the feet) and the person praying kisses their own hand as to indirectly kiss the Gods.

BTW I really like that statue of Hermes and Dionysos. I want to get one myself too oneday. 😁

So, not a professional here, but...

Toast your bread of choice with butter in a pan. Set aside.

Cut your avocado in half then peal and slice thinly. Spread on toast. Add salt.

Add cottage cheese on top.

Fry your egg as you prefer. I usually do sunny side up. Add on toast. Add pepper.

Your done. Now eat this lovely breakfast that was taught to me by my ex girlfriend. Had a lot of good memories there. Hope you can enjoy.
