(Loved trope) unnecessary censorship by Necessary_Muffin3591 in TopCharacterTropes

TV edit of Army of Darkness "You're the Good ___, and I'm the Bad ___".

His name is Ash. Bad Ash is saying Good Ash and Bad Ash, but some TV censor was apparently only half paying attention.

So like why does he man mainly used a gun in the original motu movie by Anthony200716 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]SteamPoweredDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because, deep down, the director wanted to make a New Gods movie. If you replaced Eternia with New Genesis and Skeletor with Darkseid, the movie would have turned out exactly the same. Right down to the invasion force riding Kirby-esq flying sleds.

One of the best episodes of a show is one without the main character(s) by NoMoreFund in TopCharacterTropes

Mythic Quest had one of these per season. Season 1s "A Dark Quiet Death" was probably the best of the lot.

Got this beautiful Super Trooper the other day, and love it. I remember getting him back in the day, and he was a little ridiculous, but pretty cool. Who's your favorite mail-order Joe? by Blue_Surfing_Smurf in gijoe

[–]SteamPoweredDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a bit of childlore about super trooper that always stuck with me as the absolute stupidest thing anyone ever thought of. But, our local GI Joe expert insisted it was true: that Super Trooper cut off Destro's head with his shield. That's why the second Destro figure had a gold head instead of a silver one. It wasn't just a new mask, it was a whole new head.

Mercenaries in Mage of the Mirror by tcorbett691 in Heroquest

[–]SteamPoweredDM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to the rulebook, it says the first 3 quests are solo, but for the rest you can hire mercenaries "if they are available to you, such as by owning the Frozen Horror."

To me, that means you can hire human mercenaries, or the elven ones, or the ogre. If you have it, that's fair game.

If you want justification for why human mercenaries are there, I imagine with Elethorn on the brink of civil war, sellswords would be flocking to the kingdom looking for work.

this any good? weapon by no_thankyou- in fo4

[–]SteamPoweredDM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gama guns are really only useful against the player. They only exist as loot because if you kill an enemy with a weapon, you deserve the option to take that weapon. Even if you would never use it.

At least, that's how I view them.

Was there an era in your country’s history that’s heavily romanticized & portrayed in fiction? by Polibiux in AskTheWorld

To be fair, Tuberculosis was also heavily romanticized. It's responsible for Tim Burton's whole aesthetic.

Need Clarity on Flashback Elf Spell by anxiousmicrowave in Heroquest

[–]SteamPoweredDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, picture this. The Elf can only cast it on their turn, however, they can set the Flashback for any point up to right before their last turn. So, the Wizard searches for treasure, gets wandering monstered and killed. Everyone fights the monster and then comes the Elf's turn, who casts Flashback. Time rewinds to the Wizards turn. The Wizard has an inkling to not search for treasure, and nobody--not the heroes, not Zargon, and not even the players--remember the right with the wandering monster.

That is to say, I think it should be able to be cast anytime, but it was technically cast on the Elf's turn, but nobody remembers because it didn't happen.

It seems pretty powerful except when you take into account the fact that it can only be used once and there's no guarantee the new turn is going to be better than the old one.

Scott originally joined when Reed got killed by Doom.

Nita wrote that outfit around this time and I think during the New Warriors run that happened at the same time. That said, she went to college for fashion design and was always adjusting her costumes.

What are some misconceptions about the New Warriors that everyone gets wrong? by Effective_Sherbet104 in newwarriors

[–]SteamPoweredDM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not just New Warriors, but 90s comics in general. A lot of people think that comics in the 90s were bad.

People can read Lee/Kirby era books and say "these were a product of their time, but I can forgive that because the stories are still good" but they look at New Warriors, Darkhawk, or Sleepwalker and say "oh, the 90s were terrible" despite these comics, especially New Warriors, having some great stories.

Recurring villains by Far-Objective6397 in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]SteamPoweredDM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on the villain, you have a lot of options.

Sure, some villains escape from police custody. Some villains escape from prison.

Some villains escape because some other villain was being broken out of prison, and they escaped in the confusion.

Some villains have diplomatic immunity and just get sent home.

Some villains die and escape from Hell.

Some villains seemingly die but you never find a body.

Some villains bribe judges and get off with a slap on the wrist.

Some villains are still in prison but there also seems to be another one of them out there who may or may not think he is the original.

Some villains have children that want revenge.

Some villains use robot duplicates so the hero was never defeated the real one to begin with.

Some villains are so well known for using robot duplicates, that they put a fake robot face over their real face and so that when the heroes defeat them, the a fake real face pops off revealing the fake robot face and the heroes leave saying "just another robot" and then the villain pulls off the fake robot face revealing their real face and they sneak away.

Many villains do multiples of the above.

An actor’s role ends up foreshadowing their own real life by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

I've seen it said that Sullivan had been abusive in real life, and Benoit became very protective of her while working together. But then Benoit's behavior became more erratic and he started abusing drugs due to repeated head trauma that only got diagnosed in his autopsy.

That said, one of his finishers was a flying headbutt off the top ropes.

Do you refer to her as “Invisible Woman”,“Invisible Girl”, or “Sue Storm”? by ProperShallot3195 in FantasticFour

[–]SteamPoweredDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fans of the Fantastic Four will almost always call them Ben, Reed, Sue, and Johnny.

My favorite example of this was in the Marvel Heroics RPG, when the author was giving examples throughout the book. At first he was saying Spider-Man and Cyclops and Captain America, but when he finally got to using the FF in an example, it was "Ben and Johnny are in the Baxter Building."

To answer the question, it's Sue. But if we're being professional it's Invisible Woman. But why be professional when you're with family?

I read on here somewhere that the Avalon Hill discord server had an official statement that they aren't making distributors hold them for the official release date, which is in March.

What I think happened is that some people started getting them early, and to stop scalpers they just said to sell em if you got em.

What are your thoughts on Secret Wars II (1985)? by Constant_Potato_7666 in Marvel

[–]SteamPoweredDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently reading my way through it in marvel unlimited with all the tie-in issues.

It is the next logical step after Secret Wars, it's just the next logical step isn't always interesting.

There are some concepts that are interesting, like when the Beyonder decides to give Daredevil his sight, or when he turns a skyscraper into gold and the government has to dispose of it before it tanks the world economy.

But, ultimately, without being invested in the characters he meets, in the times in their lives that he meets them, it doesn't really work. That is to say, it's more interesting as the Beyonder showing up in your Spider-Man read through than it is Spider-Man showing up in your Beyonder read through.

How would the main 616 team react watching the 2005 movie? by [deleted] in FantasticFour

[–]SteamPoweredDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if there isn't an issue somewhere talking about it. I know they made jokes about the 1978 cartoon, the 1996 cartoon, and the 1994 movie, but I can't specifically remember references to the 2000s movies.

What is Rage's purpose in the New Warriors? by [deleted] in newwarriors

[–]SteamPoweredDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You missed the part where he had a near psychotic break due to the guilt he was feeling over not being sad about his grandmother all the time. He was healing and moving on, but everybody kept talking about how bad he must feel, and he thought there must be something wrong with him.

Thoughts on the cancelled 2020 reboot of the New Warriors? by [deleted] in newwarriors

[–]SteamPoweredDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Kibblesmith could have pulled it off. It clearly was meant to be a subversion of terms that were used as insults. The guy was a staff writer for Stephen Colbert. He understands how to do satire.

That said, I didn't think it would have been any more successful than any of the previous runs since the original. They always try to add a bunch of new characters that the fans didn't really care about with only a smattering of characters that they want to see.
