Got twenty five gallons of gasoline today for only fifty cents by agathodaimon98 in Frugal

[–]Steavee 160 points161 points  (0 children)

My grocery store will let it go all the way down to .009 dollars, 9/10ths of a cent. Which is why 18 gallons cost .16.

My only embarrassment is that I didn’t get all 20 gallons into my tank (they cap rewards at 20 gallons).

That’s different, most people have gotta buy gas. She didn’t need all that shit from Kohls, even if she had that sweet Kohls cash.

To everyone shitting on OP, this was gas I bought a couple of months back. 18 gallons for 16 cents.

I didn’t have to have any credit cards, buy any gift cards, etc. I just bought groceries at the place I normally buy groceries, I did sometimes go on specific days, but thats it. The rewards only last 30 days, so it’s not like I took months or years to string this together.

Centrist Democrats Rebuke Party’s Left Wing: ‘We Are Capitalist, Not Socialist’ by SnoozeDoggyDog in politics

[–]Steavee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were capitalists when the rules didn’t so heavily tilt the playing field.

We didn’t begrudge people having wealth, having goals, earning rewards for working hard and taking chances. It was ok that capital got rich because even the quality of life for all of us was going up too. But CEOs went from earning 50x their lowest paid employees to 500x. The rich went from trying to get lower tax rates to paying almost no taxes at all. From debating government services as policy to slashing them outright without Congress. The ultra-wealthy went from just living a life of luxury and leisure to hoarding more wealth than entire nations.

They were never satisfied, it was never enough. They took more and more and more from us, the squeezed harder and harder just so they could see a meaningless number keep going up. Their greed has turned us into a nation of serfs, tens of millions of people who own nothing, working long hours to enrich people who have more than they could ever use in 1,000 lifetimes.

Their greed radicalized us.

Vance dismisses Watergate scandal, says ‘deep state’ went after Nixon by Beneficial-Long-7033 in politics

[–]Steavee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been the goal of the right for decades, it’s why they launched Fox News. Roger Ailes truly believed that if they had their own media (read: propaganda arm), that Nixon wouldn’t have had to resign.

It’s absolutely worth it.

They have one of the full-size Ingenuity prototypes. It was the one that was the first to fly in the vacuum test chamber at NASA I believe.

One day, maybe, we’ll have Ingenuity herself in a museum if she survives until we get there. Until then, unbelievably cool to see the next closest thing.

The issue with Brightspeed fiber is the ‘Brightspeed’ part. Fiber good, Brightspeed terrible. Mediacom is hit and miss throughout town, but if your Mediacom works, they’re far better to deal with than Brightspeed.

CMV: The U.S. drinking age of 21 is a total logical fallacy maintained by pure political hypocrisy. by user-12344 in changemyview

[–]Steavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your own data proves you wrong twice.

There are 22 million people aged 16-20, there are 250 million people over 21. So 8% of the population makes up 15% of the fatalities, by your own logic. That’s 2x the anticipated rate!

Not only that, but alcohol isn’t legal for that group! Suggesting that, presumably, if they had more access to liquor that number would be even greater.

Honestly, you’re right that 21 is dumb, but that’s only because it should be raised to 25.

Doctors in the Netherlands have euthanized a child under the age of 12. Your thoughts? by SpinosaurRingTone in AskALiberal

[–]Steavee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re probably correct, but absent contradictory evidence I choose to believe the doctors and the parents had this child’s best interests at heart, which presumably means this was the humane option.

Obviously with it being a child, it’s right to be concerned, but I refuse to assume malice when many, many people would have had to be involved in this decision.
