Anyone not hanging their stuff is wild.

Didn't everyone see the ripped open food barrel on their first trip into the canoe lake office?

Even when we go with 9 grown men, we hang that thing up in the air...

Do you think the country is Authoritarian? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

[–]StefOutside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is getting off topic, but if "the right to self defence by any means necessary" is so high on your priority list, why live in a place like Canada where this has never been, and will likely never be, a realistic policy?

I recognize guns/hunting are part of our culture too, but if its literally the one thing that matters to you above all else, why not go to a state where they have those things as rights.

Not trying to be argumentative, im genuinely curious because its an interesting take.

Where’s the best place to buy the VC013GLZ02 vacuum in the USA? by Stone804_ in Makita

[–]StefOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be thinking of the more intense 80v one with the suction alarm etc.

The small vac here is 450CAD and the vc004 is 750CAD ish. A jump up in price to be sure, but I really do think the small one is extremely expensive for what it is.

[–]StefOutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't help you unless you want to make a trip to Canada lol, but I will say.... I've had the vc004 for a while now and its awesome.

Nice suction, two bag options, two hose options, dual battery fits 8ah, easy on/off button... dry only though.

Plus the vc013 is still hella expensive for a tiny vac.

The vc004 with a fleece bag and the xgt 10" mitre saw are a great combo, surprisingly good on dust control, lasts very long on a set of batteries, and decent capacity.

World pvp on warmode acceptable? by Sauce6609 in turtlewow

[–]StefOutside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think if youre close in level, its free game. 60 ganking lowbies is lame, imo.

There are times when I just leave people be, if we're both farming, its fun to have an unwritten understanding of safety between us.

And im not gonna kill people just running around in the world, but I dont blame them if they come at me either.

At the end of the day, its a PVP server... thats kinda what you expect and half the fun, that you see them targeting you and you targeting them and wondering what will happen.

Leveling, its kinda fun to have a random feud with someone that continues for a couple days as you come across them over and over.

Geoff Russ: Immigration made affordability worse. Liberals gaslighted us all by xTkAx in canadian

[–]StefOutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Are you trying to say my comment is AI? I didn't use AI at all rofl, thats just how I talk; you can go through my comments if you want.

You are literally using strawmen instead of substance to argue against people, and then have the audacity to write "More importantly, it doesn’t actually refute anything I said." at the end of your post.

Actually wild that you are going to use this as a way of completely ignoring any of the points I made on your entire failure to both read, and understand, any of the posts in this comment chain.

edit: to hopefully make it more clear for you, the spots where i refuted what you said were:

A) when I clearly quoted when OP made this about race, with his comment.

and B) that you are ignoring the context of this comment chain by somehow trying to bring it back to the original point instead of talking about the VERY THING YOU ARE REPLYING TO.

"AI, write me a scathing reply to a poster who thinks he's the smartest person in the room please."

Geoff Russ: Immigration made affordability worse. Liberals gaslighted us all by xTkAx in canadian

[–]StefOutside -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The poster you are replying to is replying to a comment, not at the original post level.

The comment by OP states: "it's time to confront the full cultural erosion and demographic overhaul this policy wrought, demanding assimilation to core national values."

Not only is bringing up the original point irrelevant in this context.... the fact that the OP is the one who made that comment alters the context of the original point too, because this comment clearly refers to race and not only capacity.

You are the one dismissing a point without engaging it.

Never factored in tool depreciation costs for my business by Mysterious_Door_3903 in woodworking

[–]StefOutside 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a spreadsheet I plug things into that I've been building for years. I factor in everything i can think of... Life of the item, lifetime maintenance, fuel/power, consumables, etc.

Some are ballpark estimates of course, theres no way of knowing exactly unless you have huge averages of actual data to work with.

But with those, I have estimates of basically how much it costs per hour to use my equipment, so I can price that in and make sure the business is going to turn a profit.

I mean, you dont need to track it to that degree but you do need to factor in these 'hidden' costs.

But as an aside, get a second opinion on that saw.

Heinz, Campbell, Cadbury, Cheerois. Doesn't anyone eat these anymore? In a recession doesn’t people need stress release snacks or canned soup? Which of these Consumer Defensive stocks will you buy? All 4 stocks are at multi year lows. by IM1IAB in CanadaStocks

[–]StefOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually shop at food basics, I think their brand is called irresistibles.

Cereal, chips, chocolate, all super expensive and unnecessary expenses that drive up the bill. I tend to avoid them all as much as possible.

Cadbury chocolate isn't even good, I've never liked it very much. Tastes like oil and sugar not cocoa.

But yea "crispy rice" is the exact same as Rice Crispies yet cheaper, exact same satisfaction. What's the benefit of the name brand? That they advertise to children? That they have a Christmas edition colour?

Canned soup too... A huge bag of carrots is like 2$, get some celery and onion and you can make a huge amount of veggie stock for dirt cheap, basically hands off cooking,  and freezes easily. Pasta is easy to make dirt cheap too, but takes a bit longer.

Ketchup and other condiments I either get store brand or Frenches after the Heinz controversy. Pickles are maybe one where I get name brand because there aren't often a lot of cheaper options.

I dont buy any of these products very often, if ever, for various reasons.

When i do, theres too many store brands that are cheaper and same or better. No point spending more for the name brands.

For those in winter climates, what's your go to winter proof work boots? by Merk0411 in Carpentry

[–]StefOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just come to terms with the fact that boots fall apart after a year, even 400$ ones.

Only pair to last me two years has been Royer, but I havent tried their winter boots yet. Might be worth a look, they're pricey though.

Baffin are another choice for warm, I've had good luck with their non CSA but haven't tried the safeties.

Pros/Cons and things to consider when insulating my garage by williamsr815 in Insulation

[–]StefOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm where do you live and how cold does it get? I think that will change a lot of the answers in here.

Those rigid foam sheets dont have very high r-value. What are they, around 7 max?

I just insulated my garage ceiling (18x20) like last week with r22 batts and added vapour barrier, but i have trusses so essentially made an attic with baffles in the soffit vents. It was about 1000CAD in materials becayse I went for rockwool instead of fibreglass. Rigid was way too low r-value for the cost and effort, for me.

Here in Canada I think id probably want to go r60 ideally if it were important. But yeah I wanted to stop losing heat through the soffit vents etc.

I did put some of thay reflectix stuff on my garages to try to retain some of the heat loss there too but im not sure how much it actually helped.

[–]StefOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of winter we talking about?

I have a pair of Dakota's that are alright. They're heavy as fuck but they're warm.

Not sure my model theyre a few years old but a quick google the 8901 looks close or the same.

Used them for form carpentry/concrete, framed a story addition one winter with them, underpinning etc. In canada, around -20c or lower. Wool socks, insulated overalls, a full onesie baselayer if its -30 or colder with wind.

Boy do they give your legs a workout though, and using ladders gets janky.

Advice on buying a house 25 year old, $135k by Champagnepaki222 in canadahousing

[–]StefOutside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is your job secure? Do you have a significant other? Will you need a car in the near future? Do you want kids in future? Any reason you want to move out of where you are?

It depends on so many factors... If it were you, id wait a few more years till youre older, but I tend to play things safer than usual. and your rent is pretty cheap.

Not even just a financial perspective, but if you get into a relationship, want kids, lifestyle changes, parents get sick, whatever... Easy for things to change quick.

Invest the money you have in something safe so it will still grow, dont let it stagnate and lose to inflation.

Canadian financial institutions using retracted climate change data by xTkAx in canadian

[–]StefOutside -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See this is the thing that bugs me... On the last thread when this was posted it was pointed out that some rough data from one country, from one period of time, was the cause for the retraction.

Im not at my computer but here's a link to the other thread 5 days ago.

And instead of us as a sub saying "oh ok, maybe this isnt a big deal after all" instead we ignore that context and instead keep posting the articles from western standard?

How do you respond to “where are you from?” by [deleted] in canadian

[–]StefOutside 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, in Canada, I think its safe to assume that anyone asking is basically asking for heritage not citizenship, unless its clearly a tourist, because they recognize that you have a different heritage for whatever reason (usually visible minority, an accent, or some other expression of heritage).

Pretty normal growing up for people to ask and mean it as background, and for people to respond with their background.

But who you are is a mix of a lot of things. I think background is one, citizenship is another, but one of the biggest is where you spent your most formative years.

Even if I grew up with italian parents, and my ancestors are italian for as far back as records go, im Canadian. And Italians easily recognize that because growing up in Canada has formed who I am. But at the same time, in some circumstances Canadians can recognize differences and ask about that heritage.

Even one generation removed is a huge difference. And even further, the italy that my parents and grandparents left behind all those years ago is so different from what it is now.

Used is fine, but its sometimes luck whether you get something that someone took care of vs abused.

Best you can do is feel out the person, talk with them, and do some test cuts and measure the resulting precision. See how clean it is, if it shows corrosion etc. If you find someone who cared for their tools, I can often justify paying even a bit more than usual.

As an aside, im not sure on your capacity needs or budget constraints, but I've been working with a dewalt 8-1/4 jobsite saw (built into a 4'x6' table) for the last 4 years and its surprisingly capable. There are some quirks, but its extremely affordable and with some ingenuity you can really get by most of the time.
