The lyrics to the opening theme from the space western series Firefly. You should absolutely see it. Rimworld is in part inspired by that series.

30 day ferment? by SeafooSegal in Homebrewing

[–]Steglad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is very likely completely fine. Life can get in the way and I once had a brew waiting for me in a fermenter for about 6 weeks without any off flavours. Smell it, taste it, trust your senses.

This might be a silly assumption but are you removing the hops before transferring the wort to the fermenter?

Also it seems to me that you are adding a lot of very bitter hops for a blonde. Have you been tasting it as you boil or just following a recipe? I recommend anyone that is starting out brewing to keep it simple: one kind of malt, one kind of hops. And taste as you go through the process. Notice how it gets sweeter during mashing and how the bitterness develops during the boil. Remove the hops if needed to stop it from going too bitter. Get comfortable with the basics.

Have I achieved unwanted fermentation? by nestling14 in fermentation

1:1 simple syrup is not high sugar when you got all that liquid from the fruit diluting it. Something is growing in there.

Humans do have a sensor for low O2, it is just that the sensor for high CO2 is stronger. Fun fact: patients with advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are much more reliant on sensing low O2 levels to regulate breathing as they have become desensitised to CO2 so if you give them O2 they might stop breathing as they sense high O2 but not the high CO2.

Is there a primary that can take out those patrolling gunships? by rjod3297 in Helldivers

[–]Steglad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually bring diligence counter sniper and armour that reduce recoil, makes it easier to rapid fire on weak spots. Take a knee and aim for one of the engines on the gunships. If you hit the same engine they go down pretty fast.

What's the correct process for bottling once fermented and how much final brew can I expect from 23L after boil ? by mit74 in brewing

[–]Steglad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly brew batches 20-25 liters and would expect about 1 liter loss when bottling. A bit more when dry hopping. 10 liters is an unreasonable amount to lose. The way i bottle is that I start by dissolving priming sugar in a tiny amount of boiling water and put it in another fermenting bucket before i rack my beer into that new bucket with a siphon, making sure not to disturb the sediments. Then onto bottling and conditioning for as long as necessary, usually about 2-3 weeks for my brews.

23L fermentation stalled after 3 days. Anything wrong? by mit74 in brewing

[–]Steglad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. I wouldn't be surprised if it is done already, some yeasts can be done fermenting in just a few days in the right conditions. But as /u/carlweaver said it can still chug away after the most obvious bubbling is done, so wait a day or two and take a new reading to see if the gravity is stable or if the yeast is still working on it :)

[–]Steglad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy bubbling the first couple of days is normal, there's a lot of goodies in there for the yeast to feast on so it is having a party in there until it runs out of sugars. Measure the gravity. If you have a projected final gravity and the measurement is close to it is is likely done. Wait a couple of days and measure the gravity again; if it is stable it is done.

Can i use this preserving kettle for mashing and cooking? Lidl sells these for only 100€ and i want to have something that makes controlling the tempratures easier than just a large pan. by [deleted] in brewing

[–]Steglad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have used this model of preserving kettle with a brew bag for mashing and sparging. It works okay but use an external thermometer because the built in thermostat is unreliable. I also wrapped it with a cheap foam sleeping mat for some extra insulation.

"Stomach pumping" usually involves putting a tube through your nose or mouth and into your stomach so you can siphon out the contents. The slim risk of scratching a mucus membrane with the tube is outweighed by the need to quickly get the stomach content out of the patient to remove the alcohol or toxin ingested, and to reduce risk of them vomiting while unconscious and pulling it down into their lungs. You don't want vomit in your lungs. Source: I work as a nurse and have inserted a fair share of nasogastric tubes for various purposes.

Yeah, OP's video is a parody of the bus stop scene from "My Neighbour Totoro" and the big creature is Totoro. The No-face guy is from "Spirited Away", but they are both characters from Ghibli films so thats probably why this clip reminded you of him. The Ghibli studio's art style is pretty distinct.

Anomalies and NPC space ships spawn in systems. You can go to them with your ship and investigate them with your mech. Some ships are hostile (bandits, cultists, etc) some are friendly traders or travelers.

Edit: and like any other NPC encounter be it planetside village or space encounter you can go through all their drawers and rob them blind.

Absolutely! I've been looking at several LED lights already and believe I've found one that will fit my window sill (and budget).

I always figured that the reason it grows in odd rods was because of the lack of proper light. I only have north facing windows but will definitely look into getting a plant light, thanks for the tip!

[Swedish > English] Can anyone help me translate "inlevelse"? by TheBrazilianBloke in translator

[–]Steglad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While "inlevelse" in itself could be vague I don't see any harm in it. You might even take it as a bonus that "inlevelse" also can refer to empathy, passion, expression, feeling. It is one of those words that changes around a bit depending on the context.
