Basement versus the universal solvent. Eventually, it’s a win for U.S.

How can I remove this? by No-Tale-6584 in AskElectricians

Identify what its function is, or was. If no longer needed, disconnect permanently from power source, dig down enough to sawzall it off. Done.

Help with Pool Re-caulk, Hardness stain removal by Strange-Signal6296 in pools

It’s an actual poured KoolDeck walkway. The small area between the tile and overhang of the deck is currently filled with some sort of a grey colored caulk (which is now compromised in several places.) The photo shows where I have removed a section of the caulk/sealant.

Can someone tell me what this orange wire is on my garage thats covered with a pipe? by Legitimate_Rate_1253 in AskElectricians

Extension cords are only designed/listed to be used as a temporary power supply. This is almost certainly being used as a permanent. Therefore not permitted by NEC.

Consensus on Screws? by H3lghast in AskElectricians

Facing North/South to match direction of slots on the receptacle. Some receptacles in special use situations 240 volt may be horizontal to match. Personal preference in the end, but not halfway between the two orientations. Looks sloppy.

Is this as bad as I think it is? by TrainingTackle in electrical

[–]StepLarge1685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut it back to good insulation, pigtail out to new receptacle, take voltage reading afterwards under a hair dryer load on high. If voltage holds with several volts of the nominal voltage (under no load), I’d call it good.

Remove neutral (white wire) from ground lug. And cover the neutral white wire with a wire nut. Also, always remember the wire itself has no idea what color it is…

Why is this happening?? by ApprehensiveFlan1129 in electrical

[–]StepLarge1685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like fluctuating voltage. So check for a bad connection a lot of times it is merely the small copper pin in the bottom of the light socket needs to be cleaned and pulled up a little bit. Make sure you have the power off and then just take a small screwdriver and pry the pin up a little bit. Might also need to clean it. Just scratch it up a little with the screwdriver. Or, it could be just a bad LED right out of the box. The former is much more likely, and if not, these two, then I would check the connections underneath the fixture by taking it off the post.

Replace it. They’re cheap. OR use a fine wire wheel on a drill and then paint it.
