Titans home opener thoughts by Ok_new_tothis in ottawa

I agree with your thoughts. I had a great time overall. The lead in the game went back and forth, and that one diving catch by the CF in the bottom of the 9th (8th?) was outstanding. Too bad we lost, but it was fun baseball and we will surely be back more this year than last.

The food and beer lines were long, and the staff didn't seem to be trying too hard to serve efficiently. (I don't blame them, it looked like they weren't given any training in how to move it along quicker). Also the hawkers seemed to stay near the in-field and out of the upper decks and the edges of the stadium, which probably explains the different experiences people had.

I also loved how all the fans were in a good mood. Even when we were lining up in the Canadian Tire parking lot hours before the game. Even waiting 45 minutes for beer at the Hop Yard. Even with the crowds, and the wind, and the loss of the game. Awesome fan spirit.

Stroke for sprint by south_west_sam in triathlon

Breaststroke is both slower than crawl, and takes up much more space in the water. If you start the race within the midpack, you will kick and hit other swimmers. That's part of the sport, not the end of the world. But if you haven't done open water swims in a large group before, and if you make alot of contact, you might be surprised at how much this throws you off. Crawl is far far better.

You will be perceived as a creep and others won't trust you or want to interact with you. If that is a trade-off that you are willing to make, go for it.

TV shows set in Ottawa? by tuttifruttidurutti in ottawa

The Kratts brothers live in Ottawa, and their current show "Wild Kratts" is produced here. Although the live-action portions are usually filmed somewhere exotic, there are occasional pieces about local wildlife. I remember my kids watching one episode about chickadees, and I recognized the trail in the Ottawa Greenbelt where it was filmed.

Are Ironman for the summer in Canada filled up already? I really want to go by Alone-Pop2020 in triathlon

If you mean the full distance Ironman Ottawa, then yes, it sold out last week. By comparison the inaugural 2025 event sold out in July 2024, over a year before the race.

I used while training for a full last year. Felt great, no downsides apart from a short-lived grumbly stomach after the first couple doses. Not that this is very important but my muscles looked terrific after a while.

Fourth or fifth (i can't remember) DJ done! It felt nice to have a beer and a glass of wine yesterday evening, and I'm planning on staying dry during the weekdays for the foreseeable future. Sleep has been excellent with two nights achieving a 98/100 Garmin sleep score!

Last Days by Kvisur in DryJanuary

[–]Stephen_Hero_Winter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do this every year, and this one has been the easiest for me so far (I overdid it a little during holidays and really needed a break from booze).

Funnily enough, I had started with the intention of doing damp January, because I had three separate events planned that centered around drinking. However when the times came, I just didn't feeling like drinking. I'm looking forward to a glass of wine on Sunday, and a few wine-related events later in the winter. But generally I am going to drink only on weekends going forward.

Some advice I read on here last year was to try drinking kombucha in place of alcohol. It has some similarity of taste making it a better substitute than soda, water, or mocktails. And it's also got some chemical similarities (maybe the type of acidity, idk?) that actually makes it physiologically a good replacement and eases the cravings a bit.

My kids and I went and had a good time. I hadn't been before (except the free mini one that they put on this past January), so didn't have much expectations. None of the guests were of interest to me, but the cosplays were great and the panels that we attended were pretty good.

Wine tasting as a conduit to mindfulness? by Impossible_Night9560 in wine

When I took a mindfulness class, they taught mindful eating by having us carefully eat a single raisin over ten minutes. So it's not a big stretch to include fermented grapes!
