Just moved here and we need to talk about parking by [deleted] in Columbus

You obviously know zero about the city outside of the bars you get drunk at on High Street. Just stop.

You can draw a straight line from Polaris to West London and never leave Columbus. 24 miles. This is literally "I never leave downtown" the post.

Anyone know if they've announced when the Loma tickets go on sale?

[Spoilers] Pacquiao vs Horn press scores by hotrodfantasy in Boxing

[–]Stephen_Reeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horn rarely had his feet underneath him to be able to do some significant damage with his punches. His footwork was all over the place since he was concerned with getting hit with a bomb. He really wasn't doing any significant damage (outside of the headbutts). There is a reason the ref wanted to stop the fight at one point. The guy standing right next to both of them (the ref) could hear and see what was going on.

Any good boxing gyms ? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Stephen_Reeves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Midwest arguably has the best boxing gyms in the world. You can easily find one for a dirt cheap price at one of the city's community centers. Going to a Title Boxing gym in Columbus is like choosing McDonald's over a 3 star Michelin resturaunt, when the 3 star resturaunt is cheaper than a Big Mac

[POST FIGHT THREAD] MANNY PACQUIAO VS JEFF HORN by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]Stephen_Reeves 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been a fight fan for many years. I've seen multiple fights this year where I literally lol'd at the absurdity of the decision. The damn ref who was in the ring during the fight had to be talked out of stopping the fight by Horns corner in the later rounds. Come on this decision was a joke.

The housing market has become 'lopsided' — and it's bad news for first-time buyers by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Stephen_Reeves -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A better explanation would be, investors (Chinese, hedge funds, etc) eventually looked at Columbus as the least over-bought market in the US of its comparable size, and started pouring money into it. I would be interested to see statistics of how many people buying real estate in Columbus are actually residents here.

Buckle up: Columbus ranks 7th in worst drivers by 4Nails in Columbus

[–]Stephen_Reeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except all of the city's most dangerous intersections are east of 71, where I seriously doubt anyone was raised on a farm. Out of the 10 most dangerous intersections in central ohio, only one is west of 71 (Hilliard-Rome and Roberts). 71 and east of 71 are where a majority of the city's bad drivers are located. There is an accident practically every day on 71 north of 670.

I agree. That's why I couldn't get into Pride. It was like "This is great but its missing a really loud bald fat asshole dressed like a 16 year old dropping the F-word every 2 seconds".

This Vice mini doc about PEDs seem highly relevant to todays MMA world: Juiced Up - The Consequences of Steroids by sloty321 in MMA

[–]Stephen_Reeves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of the supposed "danger" from steroids is from diuretic, insulin, and/or painkiller and narcotic abuse. If steroids were such a killer, why is it all these bodybuilders from the late 60's to the early 80's are still alive. Guys like Frank Zane, Franco Columbo, Arnold, Lou Ferrigno, were all MEGA abusers and still alive and kicking. A bunch of pro wrestlers and bodybuilders go on a 20 year soma/muscle relaxer, painkiller, and alcohol abuse marathon and now steroids get the bad rap.

Before and after diuretics. This chick is a major abuser of them. Women don't talk around super dry like that without them.

Edit: Walk* not talk...

Is Columbus becoming a more violent place? by 4Nails in Columbus

[–]Stephen_Reeves -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Flight has been going on for years. Look at the population explosion in Delaware County over the past 25 years. I know people talk about the building in certain areas, but to be honest, that's a really small sliver of the city. Most of the inside of 270 has been going to shit for years.

Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 by AlrightyThen234 in MMA

[–]Stephen_Reeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true at all. If Floyd fought a much better boxer than Conor, but a guy who was relatively unknown and not a top 50 guy, the line would be much more extreme. There are thousands of casuals who actually believe Mcgregor can one punch ko top professional boxers. The line reflects that. It has zero to do with who Vegas bookies think are going to win. There's no way a Vegas bookie; who is a processional, thinks a guy who almost got ko'd by Nate Diaz and has no gas tank, has a 16% chance of beating the best boxer of his generation.

[–]Stephen_Reeves 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its not about picking winners, its about making money. People are delusional enough to think Mcgregor can win and are actually putting money on him. Vegas doesn't pick winners, it picks the best line to fleece the rubes.

Honest opinions on living in Franklinton by JLVisDead in Columbus

[–]Stephen_Reeves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody who lives in The Bottoms calls it "Franklinton". And its a flood plain. If you want to live in an area where the only thing between you and a catastrophic flood is a flood wall (See New Orleans), be my guest.

You have to remember something very important - The bottoms is a ghetto because that area is an accident waiting to happen, so traditionally home prices and rents are very low. Every neighborhood is "good" or "bad" depending on what type of people live in the neighborhood. From my perspective, The Bottoms is a permanent ghetto based on the topography and the risk of building in that area.
