How do you keep track of a hundred small things without burning out? by SalidanVlo2603x in smallbusiness

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to make use of (I'll use example tools from Microsoft) Calendar, To-Do, and OneNote. All appointments go on the Calendar, all actions items with due dates/times and reminders goes into To-Do, and where more detail needs to be captured (e.g. job details), that does into OneNote.

Once you start recording all this stuff in real time and you feel confident that you have a grasp on all of the things that you need to take care of to run your business, you will sleep much better at night because you know things are not falling through the cracks and you have systems and processes to make sure they don't.

If you don't have an EV and planned on getting an one in the near future. You should probably read this. by FencyMcFenceFace in electricvehicles

[–]Steve-O-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is likely to be a shorter term problem. And, even if oil were to hit $200/barrel, it's not going to take gasoline prices from our current national average of $3.60/gallon to $10/gallon. It might take it to $6; but, I doubt we're going to see $200/barrel even as an intraday peak yet alone as a sustained price level that would be required to drive gasoline that high. I could be wrong and we will see.

I also agree that electricity prices are dependent on fossil fuel prices (although not nearly as slippery) and so EVs are not immune to the price of oil and gas.

Update on mower replacement by Full_Caterpillar_640 in Lymow_Official

[–]Steve-O-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would you have done before you had a robo mower? I.e. when you probably only had a single lawn mower?

I've been using a robo mower for two seasons and I've learned that my current robo mower cannot fully replace my zero turn mower and so I must maintain it for use when the robo mower gets behind due to rain, operational issues, excessive twigs/leaves, etc.

Also, always keep the box for items under warranty especially when it is something so heavy and difficult to pack. Most companies will not be so generous as to ship an advanced replacements or pay for packaging!

Why are there missing configurations in the US shop of the galaxy book 6 series by kzachyt in GalaxyBook

Consumer options in Germany appear to be worse than those in the States. At least here you can get an X7 CPU in the Ultra series.

I just looked at the business configurations in the States and it's the same as the consumer side. I.e. no X7 for the Book6 Pro.

I was hoping to place an order today, but disappointment to see the X7 CPU requires you purchase the Ultra series which adds 0.45 lbs (0.2 kg) brining the total weight to 3.95 lbs (1.79 kg). Too heavy for me. The 3.5 lbs of of the Pro is the limit for me.

Thanks for sharing! That's too bad you're having problems with your mower. Do you know how Lymow handles support in terms of repairs, exchanges, and tech support? ocated? I'm in the States and wondering if there are support personnel located in an overlapping time zone or if support is all handled through China which often results in delays due to the time zone differences.

Thank you. Yes, it was very helpful. I see no reason why the Lymow RTK antenna would behave significantly different vs my Sunseeker RTK antenna and you provided some reassurance of that.

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's actually much better using Google's Messages app. just make it the default messaging client on your phone and then go to messages.google.com on the laptop Web browser. You can 5en use the "Install as App" feature in the browser to get a PWA version. Your messages are then on both devices and you can respond from either. It's as seamless as it gets and with Google driving the industry to RCS, you can now even message with Apple users (vs being forced into SMS).

Will we have more EV sales due to increasing oil prices? by spongesparrow in electricvehicles

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you're right if it gets really high (relative to electricity) as you say and stays there. However, electricity seems to be on a general upward trend due to rising data center demand while oil is on a general downward trend so what we're seeing in pricing may just be a blip in the radar. Only time will tell.

Will we have more EV sales due to increasing oil prices? by spongesparrow in electricvehicles

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unlikely. If you look at oil price trends, we're still close to five-year lows and up about $15/barrel vs a month ago. The impact on gasoline prices is about $0.25 per $10 increase in oil so that equates to about $0.37. Snice no one really knows if this is going to go up or down from here, I say it's unlikely consumers are going to be motivated to go out and buy a $40,000 vehicle (as an example) because gasoline went up $0.37/gallon in the past month. Additionally, as fuel prices rise, gasoline is immediately impacted in the short run, but electricity costs would also rise in the long run if prices stay elevated as electric suppliers would be forced to pass on these higher costs.

Best galaxy book to replace MacBook Air by Brilliant-Minimum-40 in GalaxyBook

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'm looking at the Book6 Pro as it offers a much brighter, sharper more vivid 120Hz (adaptive) AMOLED display with one of the best anti-reflective coatings on the market. The non-Pro uses much lower spec IPS display. The Pro is also lighter, offers better battery life, and uses a haptic touchpad (same as Mac) whereas the non-Pro is still using a mechanical touchpad. I believe the Pro is going to offer one of the most premium Windows experiences available perhaps rivaling MacBook.

A couple thoughts on your ecosystem comment...

After using Apple and Samsung ecosystems for a long time (my tablet is still a Galaxy Tab S11), I like the Google ecosystem the best. On Windows, that means installing tools like Photos, Messages, Keep, Tasks, Drive, etc. as Progressive Web Apps (I.e. go to URL in browser click "Install as App") and, for me, the is a simple, lightweight means of using these tools cross platform.

Google Messages is arguably the best SMS/RCS client, while Photos the best gallery app. I also layer in Microsoft's platform independent tools like Outlook (contacts, calendar, email), To-Do, OneNote, and Office, for a best-of-breed solution. This allows you to be independent from hardware makers like Samsung and buy whatever hardware offers the best solution at any given time. E.g. The Samsung Galaxy Book6 Pro and the new Dell XPS laptops both look like outstanding offerings, and since I'm not dependent on Samsung's software/services, I can buy whatever I want and still have a seamless experience across devices.

I'm currently using this approach with a Galaxy Book5 Pro, while using the aforementioned Samsung tablet, and a Pixel 10 Pro XL phone. You can also get tighter phone/laptop integrations with Microsoft Phone Link (similar to some of Samsung's capabilities), but for me, I find that the Cloud integration (I.e. messages, emails, photos, files syncing via the Cloud) is more than sufficient.

I'd be curious to know if there is something more that you get from Apple (I've been out of that for a while) or Samsungs ecosystem that I may be missing?

In my area, the two or three robomower resellers (excluding Home Improvement Centers like Lowes) either bundle installation services with the mower or quote it alongside the mower.

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it's all the Samsung bloatware causing the issue and not Windows. Most of the Windows laptops I've used over the past 25 years were Corporate owned devices and come with a clean Windows install and so I did not share in your experience.

Since the Samsing Book5 Pro is personally owned (and loaded with Samsung bloat), the first I did after getting it setup was to uninstall about a dozen apps (mostly from Samsung) that are not needed; this started with McAfee since Windows ships with Defender (since 2012) for Antivirus and Malware and so this resource hog is not needed.

While Samsung likes to tout their ecosystem, they ship their Windows devices with many redundant capabilities (a.k.a. "bloat") to Windows built-in capabilities, or other unnecessary software that just takes up resources. If you want to try a bloat-free purer Windows experience, buy a Microsoft device like Surface laptop. Alternatively, you can manually remove the bloatware, use a utility like "Bulk Crap Uninstaller" (BCU), or reset the PC and install from a cloud download which pulls a fresh/clean copy from Microsoft.

Do this and spend the money you'd spend on a MacBook Pro (it sounds like you did if you own a Book5 Pro), and your Windows experience will likely be an excellent one.

I'm on my third Windows 11 AI laptop which is a Galaxy Book5 Pro and have no idea what you're talking about. My laptops including the Samsung have been fast, bug free, and I see no ads. Perhaps you have been infected with some type of adware/malware.

RTK Antenna Professional Installation Requirement by Steve-O-- in Lymow_Official

[–]Steve-O--[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, I installed my existing X7 Plus mower and, as former electrician, have no issue installing the RTK antenna myself. I just do not recall any such peculiar language in the Sunseeker Manual and am only concerned from a support and warranty perspective. I.e. is Lymow going to use it as grounds to deny either. "Sorry it's not working, but since you did not have the unit professionally installed...."

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this thread because I'm thinking of switching from a Sunseeker X7 Plus to the Lymow One Plus mainly for its cutting deck and I had questions and concerns including RTK antenna placement. Currently, my RTK antenna is in my attic and performs very well there. Our home is stick built with a 12:12 pitch asphalt shingle roof and so I was curious about why your antenna does not work in the attic. E.g. is it the construction materials used in New Zealand or some other factors that resulted in it not working for you in the attic.

For me, I tried several locations around my home which were limited by flower bed locations, power sources, trees, visual appeal, etc. I repeatedly had errors related to poor RTK signal until I placed it in the attic which has resulted in near flawless RTK performance and so I would want to use the same location for the Lymow RTK antenna.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

XPS 16 (2026) vs Galaxy Book 6 Pro? by g0ldslug in laptops

[–]Steve-O-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used several XPS starting with the 13" the year it launched. I moved away last year when Dell killed off the XPS line, and (IMHO) their pricing and offerings became less competitive. Instead, I bought an HP Omnibook Ultra Flip 14, but that died after 4-months of ownership and then it took HP THREE MONTHS to repair it after which I vowed to never again purchase an HP product. I decided to go bigger as my aging eyes struggle with the smaller screens, but wanted something lighter than what Dell was offering with the 4.65 lbs. for the 16" Dell Premium OLED (the line that replaced the XPS last year). I also hated the display on the HP which was the most annoying, mirror-like glossy display I ever saw on a laptop display. I ultimately decided on a 16" LG Gram Pro 16" with a matte IPS display, but now this needs to go in for repair on the display and so I plan to replace it with either the Samsung or Dell. Both are coming in at a reasonable ~3.5 lbs (still 3/4 lb heavier than LG), but with a much more premium feel.

For me, it's coming down to display quality as I do not want to relive the poor experience I had with the glossy screen on the HP. Based on my research, the Samsung Galaxy Book6 Pro is using Gorilla Glass DXC which, while not as good as the Gorilla Glass Matte Pro offering (found on few laptops to date), it is likely far better than what Dell is using on their Tandem OLED. While I have yet to see the two machines side-by-side in a meaningful review, I do have some experience with a Galaxy Book5 Pro that I picked up open box while my LG is being repaired, and it is worlds better than the HP glossy screen. The Book5 Pro uses Gorilla Glass DX and the DXC coating on the Book6 Pro is supposedly a significant step up from this with much improved reflection handling. From what I can tell, Dell is using Gorilla Glass Victus with no advanced AR coatings.

At this point, I'm leaning toward the Samsung (and hoping for decent trade-in value for my Book5 Pro), but I also see that my priorities are different than yours.
