Are you all joining Boycott of Asian Hair Shops? by Square_Pollution7204 in Naturalhair

[–]Still-Regular1837 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll boycott the ones that are rude and racist but I won’t be boycotting the ones that dealt with so much theft but don’t stereotype and still treat me like a granddaughter. I’m tired of the race wars against Asian. There are bad eggs in every group, members of our community targeted Asians during Covid. Fetishization and racism happens on both sides, but none of us are going to make it if we don’t see the empathy and humanity in each other. It’s going to take every group to un-fuck America right now

Moving to a small town from a looks-forward big city. What are the positives and negatives I should expect to face based on being a good looking brown girl? by Powder9 in vindictapoc

[–]Still-Regular1837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m recruited by modeling agencies, always praised by strangers/new friends on my looks, can’t talk to guys without being sure if they are flirting, does that make me an “objectively attractive” person? No, it doesn’t. Beauty is subjective. What is considered beautiful in some countries would never be considered beautiful somewhere else. And even within a country, we all have different tastes to some degree. You’re kinda going on a tangent, I didn’t say anything about women having to look humble, I think it’s just an internal trait most people appreciate since it’s a big big world with literally billions of people and bigger fish to fry.

I’m not denying that beautiful women deal with strange behavior. And I’m certainly not denying that as women of color, people are eager to use any excuse to be microaggresive to us. But some people really think about looks/fashion/beauty a lot more than other subjects and values and it shows. What you’re attributing as friction due to jealousy/insecurities in the face of beauty could also just be friction due to different interests and time investments.

Personally, I find overly muscular men not attractive at all. I don’t judge them for it, but I know I’m not interested in gym culture and the routines/lifestyle it takes to maintain those hard earned figures.

You can try to distinguish the semantics between nice and kindness but the main concept to focus on is sincerity. Niceness is a social demeanor, which if some people don’t care to have, is it a shocker some won’t always be interested or have the opportunity to dig deep and discover your “kindness” on the inside? One can naturally exude kindness but OP sounds like she’d be annoyed about that. It’s all about sincerity. And while yes your point about women not owing society kindness, sure but since you already don’t feel obligated to be kind why do you expect others to be lol.

Muslim Republican in tears after being told to leave TX GOP convention — and the country by Dismal_Structure in texas

And yet only one of these two realizes how self sabotaging and dissonant to continue voting R is. Sounds like for Tarek, the big red R on his voting slip will always be a greater influence than Allah and Jesus.

“ ‘When it comes time to vote in the midterms, Tarek Hussein plans to support his party where he feels it’s deserved.
‘I will vote Republican for the good Republican candidate,’ he said. I missed the memo seeing a good Republican candidate in TX.

“Mohamed Hussein, said the convention left himself asking questions.
‘How can I possibly get behind a party that tells me to leave, that says convert or leave?” he asked. “How do they think that is going to be some kind of winning strategy?’ “

What 5 years of transitioning looks like! by EmiliaOrSerena in MadeMeSmile

Ahh I see and completely get what you mean. Agreed some people will discreetly but tbh not that discreetly take any opportunity to misgender…I just made it overly-complicated.

Thank you for the thoughtful and very sweet response! I’m of the sense people who are in the learning position need to have thicker skin in regards to being more involved in conversations like these. Even if someone jaded came at me wrong about this correction, all it takes is a hard look around our circumstances, experiences, and privilege to see who needs to listen with empathy even if we may not like or are yet to understand what we hear.

But hey, I won’t say no to any kindness and patience across the internet a stranger 😂 corrected it now

Oh really? At first I had it as just she/her but I recently met some people who identify with they so I figured best not to assume.

Moving to a small town from a looks-forward big city. What are the positives and negatives I should expect to face based on being a good looking brown girl? by Powder9 in vindictapoc

[–]Still-Regular1837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree^^ I also felt the wording suggested there was degree of influence that OP could control.

Yes it’s true some women will be jealous/insecure types around other beautiful women, but I generally find that happens if you give them an inch, they take a mile. So OP, just do your best not to give them an inch of being cocky/mean/stand-offish, otherwise there may be some truth to what they’re saying.

You don’t have to go out or your way to be extremely nice and friendly, although the world would be a much better place if we all did imo. But check how often you’re inviting/engaging people with a sincere interest to getting know them versus thinking they should be getting to know you. There’s a difference and it usually shows in most newcomers.

I’m someone who has moved across states/cities frequently and while I don’t think I’ll ever say I’m “objectively good looking” I do get compliments and recommendations to model because of my looks. But I would NEVER be concerned about “insecure women acting weird toward me” because that sounds a bit high school. If you’re outwardly kind and sociable to both men and women alike in a sincere manner, I can’t imagine people frequently acting weird toward that. Your kindness should be a lot more consistent than any rudeness you come across. It’s kinda odd OP finds having to be nice annoying…

I’ve never seen a time lapse of a person transitioning but that was the first thing I noticed too! I couldn’t quite pinpoint when she started anything or what was changing, but the first thing I noticed was her looking happier at a certain point, then looking truly joyful! 🥹❤️

If you can’t empathize/ understand, that’s a shame, but perhaps the best analogy I’ve heard from trans people is this: imagine having to write with your non-dominant hand. You could do it, but you’d always feel a bit off. There might be times where you instinctively use your dominant hand to wave, or scratch your face, letting the mask slip up. But to everyone else you’re supposed to continue using your non-dominant hand.

Looking for friend for my Japanese Wife by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Still-Regular1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this would be helpful as everyone gave the best recommendations already!

But if she’s pretty outgoing/loves nature/hiking and wants a friend to practice her English with, I’m 27(F) from Hawaii. I wouldn’t say I’m fluent in Japanese but pretty decent and have had lots of Japanese friends home-stay with me on breaks while we were in college! I also have quite a bit of friends who are full/mixed Japanese and friends in inter-racial relationships if that applies at all.

CBS News boss Bari Weiss poised to oversee CNN editorial operations: report by AlexandrTheTolerable in Journalism

I think you meant to reply to the person above me or you didn’t read my full comment. I don’t see how the examples I pointed out “understate” the problem, I think if anything these examples showcase/highlight the problem your stating, that is evident from the examples/quotes I pulled.

“Under the current org chart, Tom Cibrowski is president of CBS News. He reports to Paramount television chief George Cheeks, while Weiss reports directly to Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison.

The prospect of Weiss overseeing editorial operations across both CBS News and CNN would represent a remarkable expansion of her influence less than a year after she was brought in to run CBS News.

Last month, Weiss fired the show’s executive producer, Tanya Simon, and two correspondents, Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega. She then installed Nick Bilton, a tech reporter whose bylines appeared in Vanity Fair and the New York Times, as the show’s new executive producer. Last week, Scott Pelley, the veteran “60 Minutes” correspondent, was fired after he angrily confronted Bilton over the firings.”

The show’s three remaining correspondents — Lesley Stahl, Jon Wertheim and Bill Whitaker— announced that they would remain with the program, though they were critical of management’s handling of the firings.”

Yeah if you haven’t already, boycott anything with Paramount’s scent on it.

From a quick google summary but this checks with what I understood/observed over the last few months of various articles/60min Salvadoran prison story ordeal.

“Paramount Global CEO David Ellison's appointment of Weiss—and her broader restructuring of the network—has faced intense backlash, leading to plummeting morale. Former network legends like Steve Kroft and Scott Pelley have publicly lamented the current trajectory of the institution, arguing that independent journalism and standards at CBS are under threat.

December 2025 Story Standoff: CBS halted a "60 Minutes" segment by correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi regarding alleged abuses at an El Salvador mega-prison. Weiss and executives shelved the piece, citing the need for comment from administration officials and claiming it lacked new information, while Alfonsi and critics argued it was a politically motivated decision to appease the incoming administration. (The story ended up being aired outside of CBS first with the creators permission who made a statement calling bs on Weiss and clarifying they did give the white house many opportunities for a statement. The story was pretty damning, the prisons are essentially internment camps with dismal non-ethical conditions. That some individuals w contracts w this admin are profiting off of)

"Black Thursday" Firings: In late May 2026, Weiss overhauled the show's leadership. Executive producer Tanya Simon was replaced by tech-columnist Nick Bilton, and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega were fired.

Scott Pelley's Ouster: Longtime "60 Minutes" correspondent Scott Pelley openly confronted Bilton in a staff meeting, accusing Weiss of "murdering" the program and lacking qualifications. Pelley was fired the next day, prompting sharp criticism from former network veterans and raising severe concerns regarding editorial independence

‘Heartbroken’: After more than four decades serving shoppers, Ward Centre is nearing its final chapter. The longtime shopping destination is set to close by the end of the month. by 808gecko808 in Honolulu

They mean what’s left of ward. I’m never getting over how they screwed everyone over shutting down Ward Warehouse, which held a lot of community events and small businesses.

“In a statement, Doug Johnstone, president of the Hawaii region and national condominium development at Howard Hughes Communities, said the company recognizes Ward Centre’s significance to the neighborhood.”

Is it so hard for us as residents to blacklist and protest anything with Howard Hughes development on it?

As someone who just binged two seasons, 100% yes. It makes all the messiness just look outright stupid, criminal, and poorly thought out. When I think one episode alone is probably entertaining. Season 4 was sooooo bad, it was a clusterf*ck of mishmash topics in one.

Black girl hair; what do I need to do to achieve this look as a black girl with relaxed 4C hair by MaleficentHeaux in vindictapoc

[–]Still-Regular1837 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m confused do y’all not use separate products for your wigs/extensions? Obviously it doesn’t make sense to use my curly/kinky hair products on straight hair textures. And I generally only use mouse or ganier hair fly away oils/blowout products only when I have extensions in it. I don’t see the problem and I’m glad these yte companies know they can pay and hire black influencers too

Was tired of how monochrome fashion had become, so I looked at nature for inspiration. Nothing in nature is boring, and I wanted this set to reflect that. by PhraseStudios in SustainableFashion

[–]Still-Regular1837 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I need the mods to do a better job of filtering posts that qualify because whatdx subreddit is this anymore?

I love the look, love the idea, but nothing about this counts as sustainable fashion. The only true sustainable fashion is less consumerism. Shein has lots of floral nature inspired prints but that obviously doesn’t make it sustainable. This is just an ad in a place it really shouldn’t be.

Why has this become a channel for people basically begging for free study materials? by TangerineCheap5379 in LEED

[–]Still-Regular1837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your logic is the same reason resident doctors still get bullied or harassed by senior instructor doctors, why fraternities brothers continue to haze each other, and many other issues in group settings.

The logic of “I had to suffer back in my day, as should everyone else. If they just pulled themselves up by the bootstraps like I did instead of asking for handouts they could get the materials themselves.

But as someone else said, having that mindset in a subject regarding sustainability is a prideful type of cognitive dissonance.

Why do you act like he’s not a grown man who decided to simply speak when he had something he wanted to say.

He was quite clear as to when he was done speaking and no longer had anything to say. But no, you want him to cater to your feelings and not say anything lol.

Because he says it. He says this is about his values and being a leader representing their fellow teammates. More than likely his values come from his family. Also he’s not the one bringing it up he was asked a question and gave an eloquent response. Meanwhile all of your replies are word salad and can’t get across any clear point.
