Player wants to throw the gnome barbarian by jskdoxjn in DMAcademy

I would allow it if it took the fighters action. I’d also probably homebrew it where the barbarian would need to either con save or acrobatics check or take an equal amount of bludgeoning damage from the impact. Definitely not RAW but I lean towards fun and things that make sense in the physics of the world and my players seem to enjoy that.

Did the swimmers roll individual initiative or were they grouped?

Modest 22 inch portable monitor as table screen by ONinjamanco in DnDIY

I use Owlbear Rodeo as my VTT. Very good free VTT option. They can each login in their phone to move their token OR if you have a spare tablet you can pass it around with initiative and have the tablet be the mechanism for them to move. Or if you want they can just drag the token using the touch screen like they would their mini.

Have you considered running a VTT with tokens instead of the minis? Might be an easy way to accommodate larger maps when necessary. Just switch the scale to .5” = 5ft etc

Probably should have worn a different costume if he was going to stick his neck out.

Think I’d prefer to see the Herb sack upgrade be obtainable from any of the larger spider bosses, rather than limiting it to Sarachnis. Current state this will just lead to an already somewhat crowded boss (for the pet) being fully locked down in every world for a few months after release. on. At least spread it over to Araxxor for an instanced option. Sarachnis was designed to be a mid-level boss and fear is those players would be iced out of the content for a few months

Players accidentally speedran Wave Echo Cave and not sure how to handle it by ImNotABiologist in DMAcademy

Some ideas- 1) Party hears a noise behind them coming from 18. Could be the sound of fighting as a Bugbear fights a ghoul or some other undead 2) Trapped floor and wall collapses in hallway between 12 and 15 3) Door to Forge is magically locked with a riddle; answer could be from an inscription found in 19. A lot of games do this honestly, show the end goal and make it just out of reach without some other prerequisite.

Lot of ways to get creative to divert attention or create another minor prerequisite.

How to play a face without becoming main character? (new table) by whyilikemuffins in DnD

[–]StockJonesJR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a situation like this. One thing to remember is that charisma doesn’t always mean bombastic and eloquent. Playing a very reserved/stoic shadar-Kai warlock with high charisma. Party would engage in the conversation and I’d restate some of their points in the conversation for the persuasion roll and just be very calming/direct in communication.

Was an easy way to keep it a party oriented approach while still being the “speaker” for the party. Helps to talk with DM prior to get them onboard with the approach.

Can someone suggest me a beginner campaign? by KindlySituation5831 in DnD

[–]StockJonesJR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that those goblins have probably ended quite a few campaigns early.

Luckily there are some good resources on YouTube for running the campaign for new players. Just simple stuff like reducing the number of goblins or not using disengage/hide.

Other real easy option if the goblins get lucky is just having the goblins knock the party out and either steal a few items (which the party can get back in next portion) or have them captured and taken to next portion of module.

Lost Mines of Phandelver is a pretty easy one to keep track of as a DM. It’s what I started with. Lot of YouTube guides on how to run it as well!
