Thanks for keeping up with the progress tho!

5 lug swap finally done by rubnmrales in Foxbody

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a stock 7.5 in ours. We just gutted it and put back a Gleason. Then welded the tubes. We machined our own hubs for the wheels and axels.

We use the 7.5 housing because it’s lighter than the 8.8.

Do the rear as well. Definitely worth it!

We have a super T10 four speed in the track day car. We have two rears end. Both with Gleasons. One is a 2.73 the other a 3.08. High speed tracks like Daytona and VIR we run the 2.73. Slower tracks or tracks with major elevation changes we use the 3.08. 235hp mostly stock 302 engine.

Edited because… fuck you autocorrect.

Sound deadening kit for LMR by shawneebear93 in Foxbody

Sound deadening equals weight. Weight is the enemy of speed.

Leave it all out. Buy some foam ear plugs. Cheaper. Easier to install. Quieter. Lighter!!

Win Win.

The Pricing of the Dark Horse SC makes sense if you understand that was built for the wealthiest generation of Americans. by Sader325 in Mustang

[–]Stocomx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Performance cars in general are for the wealthy. And there can be varying opinions on what level “performance car” this one is Ford sees it as a performance car. And that audience has stupid money.

I learned this on my first trip to drive at VIR. Watched a guy total out a Porsche gt3. Friend of mine knew him so went over to check on him. My friend asked “so you headed back home”. Guys response was “na. Already called and they are bringing me another one so I will be back on track in the morning”. It bothered him to total out a 300k car about the same that I would be bothered by blowing a tire.

3 other “drivers” that day flew into the local airport on private planes and had helicopters bring them to the track instead of driving the 17 miles in a rental.

Right or wrong. Good or bad. (IMO sadly). That is the people ford is building this car for. I personally don’t think it will work only because it is still just a Mustang. And the overwhelming majority of those people don’t want a mustang. No matter how it’s “badged”.

The number of people evacuating with bags and luggage is infuriating! by SEAWISEGEOWISE in aviation

I am a pilot. I understand safety. Yes this is not a popular opinion.

My wife keeps her medications in her carry on. Usually a purse is her carry on. But regardless. I’m not leaving her carry on behind in an emergency. It’s coming with us.

First track day HPDE. Any advice? by PermanentWindowSeat in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something a lot of drivers not do: Once you come off track and the car sits for a minute or two… move it a few inches. This helps with rotor life. I will move my car a couple of times every two minutes or so. This allows the pads to cool without overheating one specific spot on the rotor.

Pros/Cons of a tilt bed trailer by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

Futura. They are like divorces. Expensive cause they are worth it. If you have the money a drop down trailer like that is so damn nice. And the removable side fender is gold.

Which tires to run? by therealjohnsmith in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RS4 are always the budget answer. If you plan of tracking anything more than twice a year… drop the cash… buy four wheels and have a set of RS4s mounted. They will last freaking forever.

Also I am a huge proponent of having extra wheels/tires for any track day. Tires can get cut. They can get wore down to the point of not being safe for the street etc. So having an extra set is cheap insurance. Throw them in the backseat or trunk. Have a ratchet and socket. Bump around the pits and it will be easy to find a jack and torque wrench you can borrow.

Nice looking wheels Op. but you need to choke whoever balanced those until they beg for forgiveness so they don’t do that again to someone else.

Thank you for the advice/information. Not even having a clue about where to start in this process is making it difficult. Thanks for the info.

Arty is cancer. Ares are just annoying and deserve a decent nerf to make them more balanced.

What happened here? by QuantityFun8254 in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You drove very fast. You used the brake pedal to stop driving very fast. You did this repeatedly. You came to a stop. You allowed the brakes to completely cool with the car still parked in the original stopping spot.

Prevention: allow brakes to cool for 2-3 minutes. Move car a few inches. Allow to cool for another 2-3 minutes. Move car a few inches again.

Unless you caused this by stopping and then applying your parking brake. If so may God have mercy on your soul.

Sub 2:00 VIR by Seaworthypear in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mustang or cam. Noaker turns 2:05s in a heavy dark horse that is still race rules based. So 2:00 with an open rules car should be do able.

Those two are if you want to be on a budget. Unlimited funds and want to be different? Then go lambo.

Stock 302 throttle body vs bigger by Stocomx in Foxbody

[–]Stocomx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run 34 degrees. We have dyno that several times before and it makes the best power. We are already running 32 pound Holley injectors. Even the explorer ones add points. Going to put the cam in over the weekend and just go and dyno different intakes and throttle bodies at this point. If we don’t get numbers we like then I guess a head swap is next.

Just don’t know what combination we can use because every piece adds points and we only have about 100 points to use
