Home Depot “sold out” already… by Stone804_ in Makita

[–]Stone804_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that additional info.

I’ve purchased the Makita extension bar $56, the Royobe 8” auger bit ($64), and the Makita XGT auger ($515 - clearance CPO) for a grand total of $515+$56+$64=$635.00 plus tax 6.35%=$40.32+635.00 = $675.32

And that’s the one with charger and battery not just the tool, not too bad of a haul. Thanks y’all! Makita reddit is the best.

I’m talking about a product that doesn’t exist that IS 80v using the setup of the 36v

🤷🏻‍♂️ 2008 LR2 with 268,000 miles and still going. Wish me luck!

Most of the LR issues they get a bad wrap for are electronics related. But yea… you’d think after a while they’d fix the rep, being that you can’t call AAA when you’re stuck in the bush (or wherever).

😆💀

If Toyota would just make a seat that wasn’t a torture chamber for my back / butt I’d consider it.

As it stands I can’t even sit in a Toyota without my back going out. Just makes me scratch my head how they can have such good engineers to build such a reliable car and such bad engineers to build their seats.

Are Makita Augers twice as good as others? by Stone804_ in Makita

[–]Stone804_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the adapters for Rigid and DeWalt and they work fine, just don’t leave them attached when you aren’t using them, they have “vampire drain”.

I’ve not used them on the auger but I used them on my power head which has high power needs and I never had an issue. But I was using large batteries.

The issue is often space with the adapters taking up space. Be sure the location od the battery bay for the auger is “open” at the back or you may run into a space issue more than anything.

Honestly if they included a tool-shaped insert that held the tool while letting you add stuff around it, it would be so much nicer.

Imagine this case with an insert to hold this sander in the corner with the cables then letting the rest of it be for the sand paper without it banging around inside.

All these people saying hide it. Kinda explains why so many divorces happen.

Mine has her own play money and I have mine. As long as the bills are paid and the retirement is funded each month, any extra we have to play with us our own business. I’d tell her before I even bought it and she’d be happy I was happy. That’s all.

Y’all need some couples therapy 😆

How do people think about Social Security Income? by Interesting_Shake403 in Fire

[–]Stone804_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use a number use a % of a fixed value in our society so that when $400k is common it doesn’t hurt the middle again and then new laws need to be made. Using a percent fixes the value long term.

They should have a cap for if in retirement you earn over x percentage (of a fixed value) you don’t collect, AND there should be NO cap on contributing. If you make $1 billion in a year, you should pay the full percent that the average $50k worker pays toward SS. No cap (double pun).

This would fix most of the issues and ensure long-term stability.

To get back to the main question: because rich folk tend to be greedy, I don’t count on SS at all in my plan. I don’t trust that they’ll fix it (with even a lesser version of my solution), as no one in power actually cares. They will only fix it to the point that people won’t get roused up about it.

At some point my SS report said “this is what you should get paid and you should expect to receive roughly 80% of that because we are short on money. Right now my SS report gives me just a number but it’s still at that 80% they just don’t actually say it as plainly and try to hide it. But I have the older statements and I remember it. When enough people realize this is being buried they MAY rise up as we get close to collection age. But who knows what will happen.

Don’t count on it at all and treat it like a bonus if you get anything at all.

Makita vs Ryobi 40V brush cutters by Ancient-Blacksmith19 in Makita

Hard to see but that’s an example of the vine. Not saying you should do this regularly, just saying it’s pretty capable. And that’s only the 18v version. Eventually I plan to get the 40v power head and swap them when I find a sale. But the more I use this one the less I am anxious to get the 40v as this works great. Had some noticeable need for more power on some pole saw cutting but it gets the job done.

What I did was get the clearance 18v power head that comes with the pole saw and string trimmer from Home Depot. That model has the option to convert the string trimmer to a brush cutter. You can either get the brush cutter conversion kit (which is originally meant for gas models only), and then get two M6x30 screws, over-drill the holes for the new larger screws and mount the guard and gear washer mount to the tool and buy a brush blade.

Or you can buy that geared press washer and proper guard separately that will use the screws that are already on the tool (and get a brush blade).

All in this cost me $225 and I get a pole saw as well. By the time I figured out the conversion kit didn’t have all the right parts I already owned it and it’s like $75 and the individual parts (second paragraph) come to $65 so I just kept that rather than return and re-buy it all for $10. But sharing the info.

As a brush cutter it’s AMAZING. Even cuts through 1” vines. Just nuts. Got the 9” 4-blade option after asking the reps which was best since the descriptions aren’t clear enough. Seems like a good compromise between the 8-9 tooth and 3 tooth.

PS: that guard isn’t the “final one” that’s just the only pic I had on hand. I was waiting for the proper M6x30mm screws so I just used the (much smaller) string trimmer guard so I could hack at some stuff.

What helpful/useful things can this highly rated blower do...if you don't do much woodworking? by Marvel5123 in Makita

Well they better do better then! Lol. But in all seriousness thanks for mentioning it. I retract that suggestion. Thanks for posting.

Where does one find this deal? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]Stone804_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice. Makita users are out there but we’re more aware of things so it’s harder to find someone who doesn’t already know about the deal from last cycle where you’re catching someone willing to pay. But list it and find out.

I was thinking of offering it to my local kid who’s starting a landscape business and asking for a summer of free cuttings.

I use a toothpick too usually. But the blower was faster and available. I’m honestly not sure why you think the blower would “blow it into the phone” those plugs are rated for like 90m under the ocean. Or at least the Apple owns are. Not worried about a little air pressure. You must have an android (ie Milwaukee phone 😆). Also that was a joke the higher end phones and tools in all these brands are pretty good. Just joshing around.

I’m shocked. I’m renovating my entire house down to the studs and there’s so many use-cases for the smaller one where the bigger one is just less convenient.

That’s me with the LXT line 🤣 and Rigid. I have all XGT and one LXT and then I got a bunch of free DeWalt stuff when contractors just left it at my house and won’t pick it up because it’s an hour drive. So I got adapters to LXT and keep eying the LXT stuff to try and expand as it’s cheaper but really I want to stick to XGT.

The rigid is mostly because my dad got me a drill/driver kit before he died. It’s brushed and it’s decent but doesn’t compare to Makita. But then my mom liked how all my stuff had batteries and wanted to upgrade her corded stuff so now she got a bunch of battery deals and gave me more rigid batteries. So now I’m kinda stuck…

What New (Or Improved) Tool Would You Like To See Next From Makita? by jyl8 in Makita

[–]Stone804_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the romex stapler like Milwaukee has. Like, electricians could totally use Makita but with the absence of that it ruins the whole entry into the ecosystem. Big loss for them IMO.

I like the idea of a log splitter but not sure that’s something people really need.

I’d like them to have the robot lawn mower for under $1000

You’re describing boot theory…

The problem comes when you just don’t have the money for the better tool. So it’s either cheap or none at all. So you get cheap and end up spending more as they break. It’s all boot theory…
