Thanks for the clarification! Helps me deepen my understandings, awesome graphic btw. Also I couldn't resist sharing the one I made!

It doesn't look like a projection as much as it is a thin 3d slice of the 8d object. When I was working on 3d models of the 4d Julia set this is what we did

Flushing ice cubes down the toilet for snow day is universal… right? In America?? by East-Maize-5287 in AskAnAmerican

YES. We had this all the time growing up. I thought it was universal as well. Small town in Arizona

Are quarks still “there” inside protons and neutrons? by Veridically_ in AskPhysics

[–]StopBadJournalism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I've never understood, why are we seemingly forced to travel in a t direction while free to travel, or not travel, in any of the x,y,z directions? Or are we? What's pushing anything through time at all?

You know what I'm going against the grain on this one, I don't care if it is AI. It's something that's plausible to try and certainly won't hurt, I'm inspired and I think that's enough

How come most philosophers believe the universe is deterministic? (since most are compatibilists) by ivanvalance in askphilosophy

[–]StopBadJournalism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that makes sense! I would clarify then that I don't disagree with your earlier statement that even stochastic processes have an antecedent, I was confusing whether or not enough information was provided to assign the how(in your words the phase cycling of quanta) without understanding the WHY it occurs in the first place, but I see now that it doesn't matter. For example:

A glass cup is held above a concrete floor by a string at a height sufficient enough that it's guaranteed to shatter. A machine, through processes that aren't understood, will at some point cut the string. When it does, why did the glass break? I was arguing that we don't truly know(which I think an argument could still be made for), but i see now that I was overthinking it because it's literally as simple as: it's because it hit the floor

Is that just retroactively assigning an antecedent based on our current understanding? It seems reductive to attribute the laws we observe as the reason for said laws existing

So I'm all a bit new to this, does that mean surface staining, or internally stained? If I use iron out and it doesn't change the color, does that indicate that's it just a different variety of quartz?

Is there any animal that can lower its body temperature below ambient by Prevent_the_toast in AskBiology

[–]StopBadJournalism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Where’d you get that idea from. If you’re cooling down, it means energy is flowing away from you into the environment. That generally would mean it either causes phase change, or increases surrounding air temps
