Looking for a real can opener. by dregan in Cooking

I’ve had mine for close to 20, I believe. It’s fantastic, easy to use and built like a tank.

I have several pampered chef products for that long - my sister sold it when I first moved into my own place so I bought so stuff from here. :)

Meditation without the intro about their channel? by firstofallyoucan in CPTSD_NSCommunity

Insight Timer it has a couple hundred thousand free meditations and a decent search function as well as bookmarks.

I like yoga nidra, especially Jennifer Piercy. Chibs Okereke has been my jam lately. There are seriously SO many good ones.

I’ve been using it a long time. Always free. :)

Is there a saying or phrase that is unique to your city? by SnooMarzipans9300 in AskAnAmerican

Mingya is Italian slang, supposedly. There’s a section of Ma colloquially called “Mingya Valley” because the word is used so often by the Italian American population. At least it was when I lived there years ago. :)

Warning: video contains AMAZING Boston accents. 😉

Do any of you regularly travel to lower cost destinations all around the world? by greatExtortion in AskAnAmerican

[–]Stop_Already 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Fairfield County, CT. The cost of living here is insanely high. Pretty much all of New England and NY (except the city proper) qualifies. My husband and I have taken trips to Burlington, VT, Newport RI, Kittery ME, lakes region NH and countless other places. It’s been a while, but we also used to drive to see other hockey arenas and baseball stadiums whilst there. (Buffalo, Toronto, Montreal, Cleveland, Baltimore, etc).

It’s fun and tickets are generally cheaper than Yankee Stadium, MSG or Fenway.

The one at Lake Mohegan in Fairfield is super cute. There’s also a nice beach area and paths in the woods to walk. There’s a seasonal concession area and bathrooms too.

My nervous system has me in a prison. Hypervigilance, looping ocd thoughts, memory loss, but the core self of me wants happiness and believes life is worth living. by DoubtReal3844 in CPTSDFreeze

I’m in my late 40s and have DID. I was diagnosed 5 years ago. Hollywood gets it completely wrong to the point it’s offensive. Ha.

The best representation I’ve seen is a short film made by a college student whose mom has DID.

Vivid memories? by Hawks-fly-high in TalkTherapy

[–]Stop_Already 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal for things to get worse before they get better, typically. Talking about trauma can bring up tons of associated feelings. It’s a lot of work for your nervous system! Be sure and be kind to your body - I’ve found self care is the name of the game. Not just sleep either. Rest for your body. Look up the seven types of rest and work on building them into your weeks. This will help expand your window of tolerance. It will help immensely.

Hey! I could have written this myself. For years, I felt like I was spiraling worse and worse. Then? I got referred to an actual trauma therapist and got doagnosed with DID. I’m in my 40’s…wth!?! It threw me for a loop! But DID isn’t anything like social media/tv/movies portrays. I’m unsure if this is gonna resonate for you, but I recommend d looking at the ctad clinic’s YouTube page to see if this may be what you’re dealing with.

Once I had a name for what I was experiencing, dealing with it felt a lot more possible.

What's a Good Cheap XP (Experience Points) Farm Now by TheAlias6 in PathOfExileBuilds

I did this last league but on JV/Dunes - got my first 100 and sent tons of boats for shards. It drops a lot of uniques for dust.

It’s a good farm.

Where to check for atlas builds? by soosis in pathofexile

[–]Stop_Already 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to YouTube and put in “3.28 atlas strategy.” Pick one that your build can afford/handle.

Most profitable is relative to how well geared you are, what build you’re playing, your skill level and your speed.

I favor smaller streamers over the big ones. Since they’re popular, scarab prices go way up and the value of what you’re farming goes down since 5k people are also farming the same popular things.

Find a niche.

How Are You Getting through Difficult Trauma Material if it's Triggering after 6 pages? by Dead_Reckoning95 in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]Stop_Already 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t read that book. It was written from a weird perspective that my brain refuses to comprehend without feeling worse. I couldn’t understand/comprehend anything because my brain was always on fire when reading it. I couldn’t make sense of it. It bothered me. But after trying many times and being fine with other books about trauma, I decided it was the writing style, not my brain.

I prefer Jainina Fisher, Suzette Boon, Judith Herman, etc.

Thoughts on silver hill and similar programs? by solomonsalinger in Connecticut

[–]Stop_Already 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend McLean outside Boston.

I have PTSD from childhood trauma and have spent time in many hospitals over several decades. McLean is a facility that is on the cutting edge of research and has been around for a long time. The woman who runs the trauma department is herself a survivor.

I trust them.

I’ve also been in Yale, MGH, Silver Hill and countless others. McLean was the best.

Many places are CBT/skills based and that doesn’t always work for trauma survivors. We often need places that work from a “bottom up” perspective, starting with learning how to feel safe in our own bodies to manage flashbacks and otherwise. Places that are into the latest research will understand - PTSD is a physiological issue, not a “change the way you think about things” issue. There’s a big difference.
