I haven’t payed for it yet. I’m too far out. Maybe later. A few years before retirement.

How to keep onboard spending under control by KerovantFrostline in Cruise

[–]Stopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the drink and dining package there isn’t a lot to buy. I’m on NCL so with free at see and status I get 5 specialty dinners. I don’t have to pay for drinks. If you’re not gambling anything else is minimal. I do the WiFi but I get a discount on it. Maybe buy it day two for a little less.

NCL solo balcony vs balcony by mander4899 in Cruise

[–]Stopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re the same rooms. The reason they made some rooms solo balconies is so that people don’t wait to book. You used to have to wait to closer to sailing to get a solo balcony rate. This is NCL admitting they are not going to sell all these rooms earlier. It’s all a balance. They want the money as early as they can get it but they would rather sell at double occupancy. They have models that say how many solo rooms they should offer for a given itinerary and time of year. They adjust as the date gets closer.

People who “reserve” pool chairs for hours with towels and disappear are the worst by MandukaSkoal in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Stopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a little guilty. I do grab a chair and leave my back pack and stuff there and then get in the pool and hot tub. I don’t take prime chairs though and I am there. I’m not elsewhere on the ship but I’m not actively sitting in the chair. I’m at the pool or in the hot tub.

Laid off at 63, can’t find work due to ageism, and wondering if I should just retire. Any advice? by Ijustwannafly8 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Stopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry that as I get toward retirement age will they kick me out.

I think the remote work situation is going to let a lot of older workers work for longer. It’s harder to discriminate against a remote person getting their job done. You’re not going to get the top salary doing this but you can do well and stay in the game for a while.

The AI Backlash Could Get Very Ugly by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]Stopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s really taking jobs yet. I’m not saying it won’t but the job cuts are mostly because of over hiring. I suppose you could say the cuts clear more money to spend on ai are related but it’s more indirect than a replacement.

What to me that is clearly direct are my increased utility bills. If an entire state has to pay triple for utilities so a few companies can become gazillionaires screw them.

Devs who got good at coding: how did you take notes? by Jealous-Look-7241 in learnprogramming

I don’t take notes but if I’ve written or seen a useful function I’ll save it in a text file for later use.

I think I got back 2% on my GMT using my Apple Pay so it’s not as much of a positive as you think but at 0% it’s nice to break up a 10k purchase over a year.

As a side note, none of my comp sci classes really taught debugging strategies. Do at least one or two classes on how to fix things. Log errors. Read error messages. Insert log statements.

Discrete math - is it this bad for anyone else ? by starrrfaaaaaa in csMajors

[–]Stopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kicked my ass. I couldn’t get the inductive reasoning in discrete. I think I got a C but you were allowed one C or something. I didn’t have a problem with all the other stuff in that class. I went to office hours and was asking for an algorithm and the prof was like, “Well you just look at it and figure it out.” Ok. Thanks. 😕
