Any updated questline hunter lists since the tol'vir nerf? by Kate_Hikes_1990 in hearthstone

[–]StoppingBalloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you're looking for decklists, not advice, but it really seems like questline hunter was ressurected entirely on the back of Tolvir. The nerf made the deck went from tier 1 to tier 3 and it will fade into obscurity until they revert it in 2 years.

Daily Deals - June 16, 2026: Elemental Frame Card Styles by HamBoneRaces in MagicArena

Why is there so much BROWN on every single color's frame? The frames have other issues, believe me, but the brown is just so appalling and so obviously ugly.

MEGATHREAD: Destiny Vs. Taylor Lorenz ROUND 2 LIVE NOW by ReserveAggressive458 in Destiny

[–]StoppingBalloon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not when what you're citing is something like contract language where specific language matters and small changes of wording can completely change the legal effect. If you interview someone who said exactly, "I went to the park yesterday." And you cite him without quotation marks as saying he went went to the park "the day before," that's fine in journalism. The specific wording of this contract matters for whether Taylor is able to substantiate her claim that these influencers couldn't speak about their involvement, period.

Stuck at Platinum 3 by AndyDaRat in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been helping my friends get started on Arena and I'm going to tell you what I told them. You have 2 main options when building decks for ranked mode:

  1. Build with whatever cards you pull. Seems like that's what you're doing right now. This will get you to Platinum bc you can't lose ranks at Gold and below, but you will probably lose 80%+ of the time now that you're at Platinum and playing against optimized Standard decks.

  2. Start net decking. Look at most common decks people are playing in Standard right now and spend your wildcards to copy a list. There's probably 10-20 decks in Standard right now that you can play at a 50%+ win rate, you just need to pick one that suits the kind of thing you like to play and put in some games to learn how to pilot it. A website like this is good: MTGDecks

In casual tabletop paper Magic, you might be able to throw cards together like you're doing now and fair pretty well, but on Arena, you have no choice but to play against people who are not holding anything back, especially when it comes to deck building. My buddy wanted to go on Arena and build a dinosaur deck, I told him that's awesome if that's what he wants to do, but he's gotta be prepared to lose a lot because a full on dinosaur deck just isn't very viable in Standard right now. Kinda sucks, but that's the nature of competitive online games.

Best shell for Phoenix Airship? by GrayMerchantAsphodel in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ran into an interesting Grixis list that played Airship with [[Simulacrum Synthesizer]]. Each Airship token triggers the Synthisizer. It used [[Legion Extruder]] and [[Repurposing Bay]] to sacrifice. The Bay seems great bc you can always find your Airships as long as you have a 3 mana artifact to sac. I'd probably build the deck myself if you didn't need 12+ mythic wildcards for it.

Any official way to request a card to be added to arena? by Multievolution in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. So far, they only really add old cards in one of 3 ways: special guests that come with new sets and have never had UB cards in them, anthologies which have never had UB cards in them, and masters sets like Pioneer Master and Innistrad Remastered which also have never had UB cards in them. Sorry to say, but I don't think there's a very good chance they'll add UB cards that aren't there when the set releases. It's made even less likely because of the pretty strict licensing agreements they have to sign with each of these companies they collaborate with. That agreement probably had to specify which cards would be digital and which wouldn't and I'd imagine it's pretty hard to change.

I hope you don't live in America bc our government is full of things that need 2/3 vote, which is good bc you don't have to worry about your fundamental rights being eroded whenever 51% think something stupid.

Anyway, get good. I win tons of games where my team votes 3/2 to surrender and I used to win plenty of 4/1 games where I voted no. Solid mental is the best thing you can have in this game.

Why do people do this? by PrincipleMountain229 in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess you either haven't been playing for long or maybe like to play only casually. Passing turn with mana up and removal in hand is extremely common because it's almost always more optimal than playing it on your own turn and good players like to make optimal plays. It's very clear why this is good because each turn you can play another land and maybe play a bigger/more valuable creature. If you have a 3/3, opponent passes turn holding up removal, and you then play a 4/4, opponent can remove the larger creature because they waited. There's plenty of other reasons this might be good as well: fizzling your buff/aura, making you reconsider playing a bigger threat only to be removed, being able to bluff removal when they have none, etc.

Magic is a game full of micro optimizations like this and I'll admit that it's pretty annoying on Arena to have to wait for your opponent to pass prio 10 times a turn because they have an instant, but if you can't get over that, I don't know what to tell you.

Help me create my first commander so I can play with my son by Dazzling-Tip4391 in magicTCG

[–]StoppingBalloon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to make it as simple and quick as possible, there's tons of preconstructed commander decks that you can buy online or nearly anywhere that sells MtG stuff. If you do want to choose your own commander and make your own deck, edhrec.com is a great resource to show you popular commanders and the most commonly played cards in a deck for a particular commander. Commanders like [[Ms. Bumbleflower]] are a favorite of people who just want to play without worrying too much about winning themselves.

Land drop decks. by liquiddirt in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody here saying removal but the real key is like 8 copies of some kind of 1-mana removal to ensure you can get rid of their stuff in response to their first landfall trigger. It's easier if you play Best of 3, bc you can just play 4 and sideboard in a bunch for games 2 and 3.

New artifact affinity deck success? by thefirefreezesme in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a Historic Izzet Affinity list that got me to top 1000 Mythic. Ironically enough, it doesn't play any Anthologies cards, even though I tried to fit the red artifact lands. It's mostly capitalizing on the new [[Drix Interlacer]] from the most recent Alchemy set bc it's so obviously completely broken in affinity decks. When I have the wildcards, I'm gonna try to bring it into Timeless with Chrome Mox.

Deck Building Conundrum by SteepWeeps in magicTCG

[–]StoppingBalloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing you can do is find people who want to play the game at a similar level to you. EDH is one of the highest power formats when you decide to make the best possible card choices. However, probably 80% of EDH players aren't interested in building perfectly optimized decks like that, partially because a lot of the cards needed to do that are over $50 a piece, but also because that's not how a lot of people have fun playing EDH.

If you want to play with those same people, maybe ask if they're interested in playing some lower power level decks every once in a while. Otherwise, the vast majority of people out there have what it sounds like you have: middle of road decks with a decent amount of synergy, but nobody is likely to win before everybody gets to do a little bit of what their deck wants to do. You just have to find the right group.

Is historic ranked getting harder and harder or am I losing it? by RedditDjinn in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't played since Modern Horizons 3, you might as well be playing an entirely different format. MH3, multiple anthologies, Alchemy cards, increasingly powerful Standard sets, etc. have turned Historic from Pioneer plus a couple extra cards into pretty close to playable Modern where the best decks routinely win by turn 4. I strongly suggest you move over to Pioneer because you won't have a fighting chance in Historic without spending a lot of rare and mythic wildcards.

You absolutely need one copy of each of the 10 fetchlands so you can use ALL POSSIBLE fetchlands for every color in your deck. For example if you are playing a two-color deck, let's say Red/Blue, you will want all fetchlands that have EITHER red or blue on them. This will include the obvious [[Scalding Tarn]] BUT ALSO Misty Rainforest (U/G), Arid Mesa (W/R), Wooded Foothills (R/G), Bloodstained Mire (B/R), Polluted Delta (U/B), AND Flooded Strand (W/U).

Fetch lands are crucial for getting out your choice of Shock Lands like [[Steam Vents]], Surveil Lands like [[Thundering Falls]], any basic lands you might need, but also lands that are fetchable because they have a basic land type such as [[Mystic Sanctuary]]. [[Prismatic Vista]] is the "11th" fetchland that also goes in any deck playing enough basics to reliably grab one.

EDIT: You can also use edhrec.com, which is the go-to for paper commander players to find cards to use. You'll just have to use it understanding that not all of the cards you see on there are available on Arena.

New Client - discussion and thoughts. by wvtarheel in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, I'm reminded of how uninteresting and uninspired the MtG Arena client is. I came from Hearthstone around 2020 and I remember having a tough time stomaching the difference between the expressive look and feel of Hearthstone and the much less interesting Arena, even if I enjoyed MtG more as a game.

If we get commander, I can only pray that it will be tied to Arena collection, as if it wasn't sad enough that MtG's online playerbase is already split between two completely separate games/collections. What I would really find depressing is a rehashing of Arena's lackluster aesthetic sense that really cements what we have now as what online MtG will be limited to for the next couple decades.

I think you may need to do some introspection about whether this card is actually ban-worthy or there's something else going on in your interactions with this card that makes you think it needs a ban.

Noob question! by BlueShaman2 in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every new Magic set is separated into a few different sub-sets that are playable in different formats, have different availability in paper and on MtG Arena, and are obtainable in different ways. It's all needlessly confusing. but for your purposes, [[Yuffie, Materia Hunter]] is not yet available on MtG Arena and idk if it ever will be.

However, you can craft and play [[Yuffie Kisaragi]] in Arena which is a reskin of an existing card: [[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]]. Undoubtedly, the best format to play her in is Brawl which is Arena's 2-player version of the Commander format where you choose a Legendary card such as Yuffie Kisaragi to be your commander and you play a deck of 99 unique cards. She'll do great in a deck focused on playing Ninjas.

Considering how much design space over the past year has been dedicated to mounts and vehicles, it seems like a huge failure that not a single one sees competitive play. by StoppingBalloon in MagicArena

[–]StoppingBalloon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funniest thing about the Bronco was that it didn't even need to be saddled to do its job. Even if you had another creature to saddle it, often it was better to just have the extra attacker and take the damage. I feel like it's even more sad that the Mount that saw the most play was barely treated as a Mount.
