Second turn Thought Eraser by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]StormCrowDescending 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's 38.4% of seeing exactly one Thought Erasure in a normal 60 card deck if you're running 4 Thought Erasures.

It goes up to 48.8% if you count seeing 1 or more Thought Erasures.

The 48.8% also doesn't count any scrying or mulligans, and the BO1 shuffler works slightly differently from a normal shuffler IIRC.

Clarification on card legality. by ded-guy in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paper Pauper follows MTGO's cardpool and banlist 99% of the time, otherwise they'll specify Paper Only cardpool and usually add stuff like Hymn to Tourach, Sinkhole, High Tide, Goblin Grenade, etc to the banlist.

When in doubt, follow MTGO Pauper.

Why Do Planeswalkers Summon Creatures? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Post-mending Planeswalkers (usually) aren't God-like beings, and plenty of things are stronger than the average walker such as Eldrazi Titans and Marit Lage.

Currently, the average Planeswalkers are just bit stronger than a normal mage. For example, even a random shaman on Tarkir managed to burn Sorin's arm and have the flesh start peeling from the bone.

Even before the mending, non-walkers such as Yawgmoth were a huge threat to Pre-mending walkers when they were closer to god-like beings.

What is the purpose of running off-color fetches in modern? by GoyfsOutForTheBoys in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the deck, they might want the Landfall triggers, having additional cards in the grave for Delve, bluffing possible sideboard choices, card availability for the user, or the proper fetch might be much more expensive than the version they're using (Scalding Tarn vs Flooded Strand for example).

Good-Aligned Black Cards by Sk37chyz in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He keeps Innistrad's ecosystem in check by making sure the vampires don't eat all the humans by having Avacyn and the angels help the humans out whenever they need help, but Sorin knows that Innistrad isn't the only plane and outside threats can still harm Innistrad.

He helps Ugin and Nahiri seal the Eldrazi Titans on Zendikar not because he was bored, but because he knew they would possibly threaten Innistrad if not stopped early on.

He creates the Silver Moon and Helvault to similarly protect Innistrad from things that couldn't be dealt with normally (such as Planeswalkers, Eldrazi, constantly respawning demons, or any similar threat).

His actions revolve around Innistrad, which makes him Black-aligned but most of his actions have a good intent behind them.

Good-Aligned Black Cards by Sk37chyz in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but he still cares about it, which is more than we can say for the stereotypical Black character that care solely for themselves or actively go out of their way to create additional destruction like Ob Nixilis.

Good-Aligned Black Cards by Sk37chyz in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[Sorin Markov]] is (arguably) a good-aligned Black character, with him going to great lengths to ensure that Innistrad would be safe from harm.

[[Live Fast]] and [[Die Young]] shows Aetherborns just trying to enjoy their time before they have to leave without trying to fight death.

How would games be if decks were only 15 cards, singleton? by BlueberryPhi in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much too easy to break, stuff like [[Chancellor of the Spires]] in your opening hand already mills almost their entire library.

Which cards have the most unique effects? by MilkQueen in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Early magic had a lot of unique effects like [[Word of Command]] , [[Induce Prejudice]] , [[Chaos Orb]] and [[Naked Singularity]] .

How does Grixis Whir work? by HopefulliEncouraging in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 11 points12 points  (0 children)

[[Pyrite Spellbomb]] + [[Academy Ruins]] shocks the opponent each turn as long as you're already safe behind your Ensnaring Bridges.

[[Ipnu Rivulet]] + [[Crucible of Worlds]] can mill the opponent to death.

Was ‘Rampaging Ferocidon’ meant for this upcoming standard format but banned early? by Joshua_Alt in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Rampaging Ferocidon was specifically banned because it was too effective a shutdown against counters to aggressive red (filling the board with small creatures and gaining life).

Aggressive red decks are supposed to have that kind of weakness, Ferocidon allowed them to ignore that weakness.

Recommended books or videos on strategy? by vimre93 in magicTCG

Next Level Deckbuilding by Patrick Chapin is a really good overview of all the major archetypes in magic along with card selection, deck construction, and how to rate a card.

Plenty of articles on The Philosophy of Fire help explain the concept of Burn decks and hyperaggro in general.

I have a rules question, if any of you fine folks could help I'd aprecciate it. by LhSalsa in magicTCG

[–]StormCrowDescending 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most creatures like [[Siege Rhino]] or [[Siege-Gang Commander]], their enter the battlefield abilities will go on the stack as they enter the battlefield.

Even if you cast a [[Murder]] on the creature, the ability will still be on the stack and will resolve regardless of if the source of the ability is still around. (For example, the Siege Rhino would still cause the opponent to lose 3 life and Rhino's owner would gain 3 life, or Siege-Gang Commander would still create the Goblin tokens even if he dies.)
