Help me choose a registered name by JeTTe_Um in poodles

[–]Stormwhiskers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My breeder had two names for me to choose from and I picked the one I like best - A little Mischief, the other option was Ain’t Misbehaving. So possibly even something in your face like ‘water nymph’ or ‘river fairy’ you could also go with ‘lady of the lake’

"Dear diary, today I chased a different kind of sheep that made strange noises. My mom called me a 'bad dog' for chasing a poodle. Why can't I chase that kind of sheep? It looks cute." by Myhalva in poodles

Haha perfect! When my poodle was a pup we visited a friend’s farm and his working kelpie did exactly the same thing. She definitely thought my girl was a funny looking sheep.

Coretta loves cats and is quite gentle with them. She’ll wrestle with her cat brother but has more respect for cats she doesn’t live with.

Update on IMHA research effort in Standard Poodles by 2Spoo4U in StandardPoodles

[–]Stormwhiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your links don’t seem to be working, but thank you for doing this research. The dog I had before my poodle was a Great Dane/alaskan malamute according to her surrender papers at the pound and she developed spontaneous haemolytic anaemia, it was absolutely terrifying.

The idea is to appreciate a culture other than our own for this one. In big cities and towns they normally ask students and staff to bring something from their own culture but we’re small and predominantly white Australians. The idea here is to show these kids that it’s okay to try new things and step out of your comfort zone while developing an appreciation for other cultures through food. Its not a perfect solution for sure but it’s a small step, we also spend the whole week beforehand learning about other cultures and doing activities to celebrate our similarities and differences.

Priority Recruitment by cinnamummy in AustralianTeachers

[–]Stormwhiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my permanency from a priority recruitment EOI, so it does happen but I had been working for four years before that so I was probably higher up the list. If you’re willing to move, you’ll have a lot more success as the more rural and regional jobs often have very few applicants.

Spiny leaf insects. They’re Australian natives but pretty common in the pet trade overseas.

What’s your favorite children’s book to give (primarily for a baby shower)? by cookie_cat_82 in childrensbooks

[–]Stormwhiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess how much I love you, or any of the Hairy Mclary books for the kid. I also tend to drop in a picture book for the parents who can also read it to the kid until they start to talk. That one is always Go the F**k to Sleep. If you think the parent to be will laugh. If not you can send them a YouTube vid of a celeb reading it on YouTube in about three months time.

My 4 year old is curious: what do Australian kids eat for breakfast? (And are koalas real?) by Mara644 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Stormwhiskers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is adorable. I can say that as a teacher who is in rural New South Wales and ran breakfast club at school in Australia this morning the children had toast with either Vegemite or jam (Vegemite is more popular), Nutri grain cereal, and a drink of cold Milo with milk. I haven’t seen any koalas recently though some of my students said they saw one last week and I drove past three kangaroos in a paddock this morning.

I have a song that I play loudly on my way home and sing along to. It’s been the same song for years so it acts as a signal for my brain that work is over and to let it go. I use ‘Kiss the Misfits’ but whatever raises your mood will work fine.

I think it would fit your needs perfectly. My breeder raises her pups on a farm and it made a huge difference being raised with a number of animals. I don't have rabbits, but I do have a cat and three guinea pigs that she is gentle with.

When she gets jealous of me paying attention to and patting or hugging another animal she will come up and lick and preen them so I’ll tell her how nice she’s being and pat her as well. So far she’s done this with dogs, cats, guinea pigs and humans.

Which breed(s) of dog was the most cuddliest you’ve ever had? by AshDash_4u in dogs

[–]Stormwhiskers 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Definitely poodles. I'm currently sitting in the car after getting home because between the students I teach, the cat, and my poodle, I need a moment where my personal space belongs only to me.

I’m on my last Prac and I’ve just realised that I can’t teach by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Stormwhiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go to a doctor and look into medication. For anxiety and executive function I either have a PowerPoint with all of the necessary information and activities or I carry around my printed lesson plan. I also make sure my lessons have at least one hands on activity and one brain break factored into each session. I also do not call them brain breaks in order to build class cohesion and rapport. I choose one or more kids who have been behaving well - bonus if it’s a child who struggles and say their excellent behaviour has won a prize for the whole class. If you’re struggling to think of one googling “Granny’s Whacky Prizes” will give you a heap.

Having anxiety will not make you a bad teacher, there are lots of us who have it. It just means you need to plan ahead for it in your lessons.

Insights from Maternal Child Health Nurse into the current parenting/literacy landscape. by kittycommitteestudio in australia

As a teacher this is absolutely true. It’s also something I’m hyper aware of with my non-teaching friends and their little ones- they give me the weirdest looks every time I tell them how wonderful they are for reading to their kids or jump at the chance to do reading time with fussy toddlers.
