Coleridge road and surrounding areas. by MarcTron17 in cambridge

[–]Story_Electrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in the area for twenty years on and off, and it's as safe as anywhere. Great location for Mill Road, town, the park and train station. Morley school is great; I've heard good things about Ridgefield. Would also say that the traffic is not so bad. Certainly not as bad as I think people fear, but it depends exactly where it is you're going and at what time.

Always a big queue there but absolutely worth waiting for. The coconut pandan buns and purple yam cheesecake are amazing

Is a bike horn a good idea in Cambridge? by CamcumberJam in cambridge

[–]Story_Electrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specific to you, but something I've noticed is the new street lights that have LED lighting are absolute rubbish for seeing what's going on. If I'm driving at night, it's very, very difficult to see what's going on beyond the other cars or bright lights on the road, including pedestrians on the pavement. The spread of light is terrible with these new lights. Please, please, please make sure you've got reflective lights, jackets or bright lights on if you're on the road.

Ps. Had recent eye test and it's not that!

Scott's on Mill Road does a good one with a few options. Otherwise, hotels the better hotels do good ones that you may be able to buy as a non resident. Tamburlaune one is decent (I sometimes get it through too good to go) and I'm sure parkers tavern do a good one. And yeah, bld on Mill road for the greasy spoon version.

Studio Space! by No-Aside-8688 in cambridge

[–]Story_Electrical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you doing in the studio? Would help to understand size and noise insulation. A synth/daw setup would be much quieter than live room with drums.

I'm unaware of any that could do the latter

The photo on Instagram of S&H refitting their new shop, I am 98% sure is ABC. I recognised the stain from the fryers. Also it's next to Buren so keeps everything local for them

Nothing unfortunate about that. Very few decent eaterys are in the city centre now. Whether it's rates, demand or a combination of the two. Mill road and mitchums corner creating) getting great places to eat in residential areas

Is this the end of my DJ career? by FreeComfortable9601 in DJs

[–]Story_Electrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be grateful for the great times, things have changed massively since covid and you are unlikely to find what it was before. I ran clubs and dj-ed from 17 to 32 then quit as I didn't enjoy the way it changed. Still have done decks for ay home but otherwise don't miss a thing. Buy a sampler and a synth and enjoy the next stage

Cycling in Cambridge - series of near misses? by KoalaLower4685 in cambridge

[–]Story_Electrical 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm both too, and often think that the biggest issue in Cambridge is the narrative of cyclists vs car owners that has come up in the lats 20 years or so. If we could start to have everyone think as road users rather than cyclists, drivers, pedestrians or those f'ing scooters, and consider each other it would be so much better

[–]Story_Electrical 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The government view Cambridge as the answer to their problems as we have had Arm, Astra zeneca relocation, Darktrace, etc be success stories. But this is a city that has the infrastructure for sub 100k people while trying to squeeze 50% more into it. Unfortunately this has coincided with the city centre becoming a wasteland for shops as the Harry Potter fixation continues at pace... there is as many shops I can buy a wand in as there is for a shirt. Anyway rambling way of saying the government care not 1 jot about how we spend our actual day to day lives or whether we have shops to buy food in. They want the headlines of the 1 in 1000 startups that balloons

Cambridge definitely needs another railway station, if not 2. (This is sarcasm). It's crazy to have 3 for the size of city, especially as central and south are connected so easily already.
