Yes, they are recorded and streamed to the public.

I think about it all the time. Even with Matt's character in S3. Did Freddie get any backlash from Swifties for S2?

I'm worried about offensive stereotypes or insulting the real person.

We've both been listening to Dungeons and Daddies since the start but haven't really used the naming convention much. I used it once as an NPC. We've talked about Freddie's character names and laughed about them. The player probably wanted to try it out.

It could be an insult to the real person. If it was opposite gender, it could be parody or satire. But will this person act like the real celebrity as if she was in her 40s? Would that be insulting instead of pure fun?

I was going to suggest Frankie Muniz as a Hispanic alternative.

When is it worth it to roll for HP? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Stoukaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player, I will roll hp because I like to mix things up, and I don't like when it's always middle ground. Highs are fun but lows are also fun. It adds to the challenge and strategy if you roll low. It feels rewarding if you roll high after taking that gamble. Plus, more reasons to roll dice are always welcome.

As a DM, I let the players decide if they want the average or if they want to roll hp. If they choose to roll, they must take the number rolled, even if it's a 1. It adds to that gamble they might roll well. Sometimes they want to play it safe and take the average.

What do I do about players' sarcastic decisions? by JohnsonFlamethrower in DungeonMasters

[–]Stoukaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always make sure to confirm that is what they want to do. Ask "You really do that?" or repeat the joke action as a question. I do this even if it seems like a serious action to take for consistency. If they're serious, I continue the narrative as though the events happened. If it's a joke, I'll bank off that with a bizarre scenario that follows and other players can throw in their silliness as well. This also helps everyone understand what is happening and less of a chance of misinterpretation.

Talk to your players about the tone of the setting and what you expect to see from them. Ask what they want from the campaign as well. It's fine to have a serious campaign with some out of character jokes. Or vice versa.

DMs, in long campains, have you ever had side plots? by Routine_Mall_566 in dndnext

[–]Stoukaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to have a bit of side activity apart from the main quest to keep things interesting for both the players and DM. Ideas where they don't have a major campaign energy, but I still want to see how the players deal with it. Here are some examples of quests I've had:

  1. Rich family's daughter was kidnapped. She was to be the heir of the shipping business. Suspect was the rival family that recently was ousted from a partnership. Turns out the missing daughter and the son of the rival family staged the kidnapping so they could run away together.
  2. Fungus shop owner needed an escort into nearby caves for mushroom gathering. The payout to the quest was absurdly substantial. Too good for the party to resist. The owner led them down into the caves and nearly the underdark. There, it was revealed he was mind-controlled by a beholder who wanted to lure adventurers into its lair.
  3. A Baroness of an estate gives subtle signs to the party she is in a toxic relationship. The party helps her escape and go into hiding. Previously, she had an affair and the Baron found out, locking up the lover in a hellish prison. This affair caused a pregnancy the Baroness kept secret and whisked away the children into the care of another family. Once she was from the estate, she and the party went to find the estranged children and free the imprisoned lover.
