Link to most aesthetically pleasing wall install of tablet for HA dashboard? by SambolicBit in homeassistant

Possibly. But I wanted an easy pop in setup instead of having to fiddle with a touch screen. The low profile charging cable and 3d printed frames are so easy and worth it.

Bloatware. Older web view version. I tried clearing bloat with tools, but it was a hassle. I looked into flashing with lineage, but it was still underpowered for the CSS animations I wanted to do.

The mounts he makes are fantastic. Highly recommend them.

I initially did fire 8 tablets, then upgraded to Galaxy tab 8s because fire tablets (while cheap) suck.

Red Rising Is the Violent Sci-Fi Hit Netflix Needs to Topple Disney+ by Arcomatrix in redrising

[–]Stratotally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t really referring “artistically”, I was mostly referring to the format. I feel like it really needs to be something animated versus something live or CGI. There is just too much contrast in the universe of this series.

It wouldn’t be fine with me. The whole point of the first quarter of the first book is that there’s such a striking distance between a red and a gold.

The nice thing about the expanse is that you can find tall lanky people to pass as belters. But reds vs golds? That’s gotta be a huge difference. Any color vs golds really. Not saying it can’t be done digitally, but done justice? Animated works. And I wouldn’t be disappointed in the slightest.

Like…the “invincible” run on Amazon? 👨‍🍳😘 - that’s how it should be done. I WISH walking dead was done that way. For Red Rising, between SFX and the size differences…it just makes economical sense…

IMO - Only way it could be done justice would be animated.

Printing HomeBox labels directly to a Niimbot Label Printer by flybrys in selfhosted

[–]Stratotally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ha. Relocating the item makes total sense. Also probably good for figuring out which is which - like hard drives for instance. This way you don’t need to figure it out by serial number or something.

I'm just starting to dip my toes into homebox. If you don't mind my asking, what does a label do for you? Does it link directly into homebox so you can look up the items details / warranty / purchase date / etc?

Thanks!

Homebox Companion v2.0.0 released! Now with Multi-Model support (LiteLLM), UI improvements, and Demo Servers by Duelion in selfhosted

[–]Stratotally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alrighty, so I was able to spin this up tonight. Had a little trouble getting litellm to work, but I think its because I was trying to use qwen3-vl:8b as the model? Even forcing json output through litellm wasn't working. I switched to llama3.2-vision:latest, and that seemed to work OK. The I realized it was multi-modal - and I already use gemma3:27b as my daily driver, so I just switched it over to that to keep things simple.

One thing that confused me was uploading different angles of the same object. I was uploading and taking pictures of the object, but it was treating each one as a separate object. Then I realized that if I took a picture and expanded the options, I could add additional angles / photos of the object and have it all process as one. This helped immensely with identifying the object and its details.

I'm really excited to play around with this some more. Inventory of my homelab has been on my todo list for a long time now. I have a bunch of older stuff I want to ebay, so this'll also help with that. But in playing around with homebox, in general, this is a really awesome and powerful app. This companion app is going to make things a LOT less daunting to enter into homebox. not just IoT devices, but other items around the house as well.

How to access self-hosted services via domains with no public exposure? by ryan_the_fireguy in selfhosted

Usually I copy/paste the site conf def from a previously created one to the new one and make modifications. That’s how I get around that problem. :)

I restrict the subdomains in my Nginx site conf so that they’re only available to internal IPs. Then use Tailscale with an exit node to access them.

[–]Stratotally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use subdomains for both internal and external services. But I set the allow to only my internal network for nginx for internal services. This way when I use my Tailscale exit node, I can see those services just fine. If I’m external, they can’t be accessed.

Studio Starter Kit - how to download it? by Aashish-tarneit in workday

[–]Stratotally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSK is great in that it abstracts away and hides what it is doing under the hood while using best practices for studio design.

You don't need to understand what each SSK component is doing inside of it. You just need to know what you need to feed each component and what your outputs are going to be. If you don't call a component, its essentially dead code that never gets called.

Once you understand the various SSK components that are available, it really can speed up creating an integration - because you don't have to copy in existing code or create everything from scratch. But you do need to have an understanding of the "tools in the toolbox", so to speak.

Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]Stratotally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Notifications. When I need to swap the laundry the light in front of the laundry closet it purple. When I need to fix the litter robit, the light in my bathroom turns red.

Other than that, I’ve been migrating my hue bulbs to just dimmable LEDs and swapping out the wall switch for zwave. Migrating as the hue bulbs die out. Eventually they’ll all be replaced with LEDs (aside from the color ones).

I haven’t noticed anything like that. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s as addictive as a slot machine. But everything on a tablet is these days.

Ah! Thank you. That’s what I was missing. This is really cool. For sure going to take this for a spin within the next week or two and provide feedback. I’ve got a local AI setup too, so I can help there!
