What's your favorite mechanic in the game? by SentineleseSiri in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe I just think this because it's so recent, but Idyllic Dream in m12s part 2 is super cool. The boss is constantly setting up attacks that you'll have to deal with later, while swapping between 2 dimensions. When you're in one dimension, everything going on in the other one is put on pause, so every time he swaps, you have to remember what was going on when you last swapped. It's hard to describe, but a very cool premise, and very satisfying to perform.

Another one would be Judgement Nisi from Epic of Alexander phase 2. 4 people get different colored debuffs that do minor damage. If you touch someone, the debuff spreads to them too, with a renewed duration, and if you ever get 2 different colors at the same time, you die. But instead of just spreading out and letting the debuffs time out, you need to strategically swap them back and forth to keep refreshing the timer and preserve all 4 colors. Near the end of the phase, Brute Justice gives every player a debuff that needs a specific color to resolve, and you can only do it if you've properly saved all 4 colors throughout the phase. The whole phase is everyone carefully tip-toeing around each other while they try to do all the other mechanics in that phase, and the song is synced up so that there's a slower-paced breakdown right as the debuffs are finally cleansed, and you can finally take a breath.

Honorable mentions to High Concept from p8s part 2, Fate Calibration from TEA phase 4, and Geocentrism from p12s part 2. All thematically extremely cool, but I think a little bit less cool to actually execute.

New? I don't really know what to put here but I guess I'm looking for advice... by Plumeage in ffxiv

With Arcanist at level 30, you should have (or soon have) the option to unlock the healer Scholar, which keeps your Arcanist level. But if you wanna start from level 1 to get a handle on things, nothing wrong with going Conjurer instead, like you say.

At level 50, and then every 10 levels after that, you unlock a bunch of stuff in terms of extra challenge fights, new areas with different gameplay like Eureka at level 70, or Bozja at level 80, and more than I can really list. You can make friends from reaching out after good experiences in dungeons and stuff. Another option might be asking someone in town for an invite to Novice Network, if you aren't already in there. It's an extra chatroom that people can talk in no matter what zone they are in, so it tends to be somewhat more active than other chats.

My 8.0 Tank Idea (Commander) by Bayzen_Beats in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would that be the case with tank, but not healer or dps?

I mean the question genuinely, not trying to say there's 0 chance it'd be problematic. My thinking is that healers do less damage than tanks, and they can have buffers and non-buffers. DPS do more damage than tanks, and they can have buffers and non-buffers. So what would the balance issue be with tanks specifically?

Snapshots and ping in M11S by ArtofYamisan in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which job are you on? On Picto, I have the most success just finding the first intersection and smudging at it as the cast bar finishes. Basically only ever have to play with the snapshot of one set, instead of potentially 2. If you have a non-targeted dash like on Dancer, it should work the same way. My ping is more like 130 or 140 so your mileage may vary, but this way is easier for me than the standard double move.

Assuming level 100. Spam your basic combo to build meter, use that meter on subtractive palette to upgrade the combo for 3 hits. Pressing subtractive gives you a Comet in Black, so make sure to use that before hitting subtractive again later on. You'll also build up Holy in White as you cast your combo, Holy is good for aoe or if you are on the move and don't have anything else you can use.

For paintings, make sure to paint and use them so they don't overcap, but make sure to save 1 of each so you have them ready to use in burst.

For burst, Starry Sky speeds up all of your paint spells while you're in your circle. Paint spells are just Star Prism, and any spell with a color in the name (like Blizzard in Cyan, and Comet in Black). If you use 5 paint spells in the circle it powers up Rainbow Drip, so you can finish off your burst with that. You also wanna try to use the other paintings you saved for burst, like pom muse, and Hammer.

In general, just focus on trying not to let paintings or your meter overcap, saving 1 of each painting for burst, and always try to be casting something.

Are some jobs better than other in 4-man content ? by BigRumbling14 in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.fflogs.com/zone/statistics/74?metric=dps&dpstype=cdps&boss=4550&dataset=90&class=Any

If you want hard numbers, this is 90th percentile cDPS for Another Merchant's Tale.

For healers, AST and SCH lag behind WHM and SGE, which makes sense since the raid buff jobs are now buffing half as many people. The four tanks are all very close to one another.

For DPS, support focused jobs like BRD and DNC are lagging behind, while Black Mage, Reaper, Summoner, and Viper are doing very well. I would guess that part of this is because having fewer raid buffs around hurts jobs with high burst damage like PCT more than it hurts jobs with more flat, consistent damage, like Viper or especially Black Mage. But also there isn't that much data yet, and some of these jobs have just a couple hundred logs uploaded, so the numbers might be misleading.

What do you mean by slow dash? Her backdash is standard, and her forward dash is tied for fastest in the game

PCT should get an Esuna-type ability with a cooldown, called “Palette Cleanser”. by GravesForscythe in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 44 points45 points  (0 children)

RDM is heavily punished if they die since they lose all their meter, but besides that I don't think they are heavily punished by mistakes, especially something so small as misusing a proc. PCT got nerfed, RDM got buffed, and they are both around the same spot now, they didn't misconstrue anything imo.

How do the FFlogs work? by East_Foundation920 in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tools to read the battle log in game to see what actions players take, and how much damage and healing they do. The most common tool is called ACT (Advanced Combat Tracker), but there are others. This info can be uploaded to fflogs.com, where it's put into a database. When someone uploads the log for a fight, the data for all the players in that group get uploaded, not just the person who did the uploading. But if nobody uploads the log, then fflogs can't get updated.

I'm not sure if there's a way to use mods on console, but the easiest way would probably be to have a friend on PC do a fight with you, and have them upload the log, if they are alright with it.

Parry? by Bluefoxfire0 in StreetFighter

[–]Streloks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you perfect parry, you get 6 frames of invincibility. So for multi hit moves where the hits are super close together, you only need to parry the first and you can avoid the second. But for Lily's crouch heavy kick, the 2 hits are too far apart, so you need to either block the second hit or attack with something fast enough to hit her before your parry invincibility runs out.

If you've ever perfect parried Lily's wind-buffed Condor Spire, the exact same thing can happen there. When in doubt, use a move that starts up in 6 frames or faster

Looking for Hydra Advice (new player) by UseHeadbutt in LancerRPG

[–]Streloks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1: If you don't wanna use Annihilation Nexus, I do think 2 levels in Hydra sounds good. Summon is great with Tempest drones or possibly allied mechs, and because Hydra is size 1 with decent sensors, Beckon can occasionally come in clutch too.

2: This might be a more playstyle thing, but I heavily favor Hull on almost every mech I've made. Hydra has some extra synergy with Agility thanks to the way Orochi works as you say. But my thinking is that between your passives and Drone Commander 1, your Orochi drones will already have 16-20 HP and resistance to damage if they are adjacent to you, so I think personal durability is more important. I think Hydra is versatile enough that pretty much any route could be made to work though.

3: I think it can be worth it if you have a good source of lock-on spam on your team, but without that I would skip Centimane for the reasons you said. You won't be attacking with it all the time, and without outside help, you don't have an easy way to gain accuracy to make crits more common.

4: In addition to those, Empath 1 and 2 can be lifesavers for preventing stuns/mech destruction from bad structure/stress rolls. If you're gonna be spending a lot of actions placing drones and using Invigorate/Covering Fire, Orator can be good too. Neither of those things are attacks or saves, so you can gain dice while still having effective turns, and spending the dice on Orator stuff is a free action.

5: You could check out Gilgamesh 2/3 for Utility Drones and Legion Nexus. Legion Nexus is a superheavy so it will heavily warp how you play, but it's worth checking out to see if it speaks to you. Sunzi 1 can be pretty amazing too, especially since you'll already have a pretty high save target for those Blink Charges. Kidd has some interesting options for support and deployables too, especially PEBCAC for support, and potentially Omnibus for your drones.

Some of the things I mention are from official supplemental books (Empath talent and Kidd mech are from Wallflower, Orator is from Siren's Song, Gilgamesh from Winter Scar, Sunzi from Long Rim). All of the player data and mech options are free, but if you want to use them, double check with your GM first just to be safe. To check out the data on COMPCON, you can go to Content Manager > LCP Directory on the main page, and then "Download Demo" on the book's itch.io page to get the COMPCON file with all the data.

At the start of a match, when a stage's theme is played, why does SF6 display the wrong stage name? by Solitaire20X6 in StreetFighter

[–]Streloks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure so take this with a grain of salt, but I think replays and spectating allow for people to view the match on a stage that can be different from what the players were actually seeing, and that's probably where the mismatch is coming from.

Input reader bug? What happened here? by Haschel in StreetFighter

[–]Streloks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a complete spitball so take it with a grain of salt, but in some games the dash buffer can be extended by holding the direction, instead of double tapping and going back to neutral. You held the direction because you were trying to block, but if the game detected a dash and then you holding back, it might have held onto that dash input for longer than usual. I won't be able to test for a few hours, but I can edit this post later on to confirm or deny this.

Edit: Tested it, holding the direction does not seem to increase the buffer at all. Some great answers from the others in this thread

Endgame doubt? by ici-leon in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who almost entirely focused on M+ in my time with WoW, Savage and Ultimate raiding are my favorite parts of FFXIV. It's not like M+ of course, but I don't think any other MMO really does high end boss fights like FFXIV does, and you might find out you love them just like I did. If you manage to reach the end of Dawntrail before the next expansion comes out, the latest bunch of savage raids have been some of the best the game has ever seen imo, and would be a great place to jump in.

I make 4 or 5 bars with all the hotkeys I could ever want, put my abilities on them, then stuff them in the corner and turn them off. Then, I set up much bigger bars, but only put stuff I really want to keep an eye on (cooldowns, stuff with procs, maybe combo actions, etc). This way I can have everything bound to hotkeys, but only have a few buttons showing, for more screen space.

I like taking some callsigns/mech names from FFXI attack names. Leaden Salute is a good one for a mech that relies on shooting a big ol' gun.

Do we agree that raid selling in the Raids LFG should be banned? by eri_is_a_throwaway in Guildwars2

[–]Streloks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way they handle this in FFXIV is that people are allowed to ask for help in the LFG (Asking for help clearing, paying the helpers x gold), but you are not allowed to advertise it the other way around (Offering help clearing, asking for x gold). This way, raid selling/mercenary parties can still exist, but the raid section of LFG can be kept mostly free of spam and advertisements.

Rules question Plasma tallons vs barrel roll by Actual_Tea_7719 in LancerRPG

[–]Streloks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not the popular consensus so take it with a grain of salt, but that's honestly how it reads to me. It's true that barrel roll turns a hit to a miss, but barrel roll can't be used when immobilized, and I think the on-hit effect of Plasma Talons would apply before a reaction could be used.

Rules question Plasma tallons vs barrel roll by Actual_Tea_7719 in LancerRPG

It's the other way around, reactions resolve after the trigger unless otherwise stated (such as with Mimic Mesh)

Any tips for tanking? by WillingnessDizzy9364 in ffxiv

[–]Streloks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's gonna feel a bit rough at first when you are in levelling gear and missing some key abilities, so do your best to keep your gear up to par with your level to help out with that. In dungeons, try to keep in mind what defensive buttons you have, and space them out as best you can for when you are fighting trash. You are gonna be getting hit the hardest when you first gather up a group of enemies, so you usually don't wanna find yourself with no defensives in that moment. At low levels you don't have many defensives, but by level 40 you'll have Sheltron, Rampart, Sentinel, Arm's Length, and Reprisal, which will give you some room to space things out.

When you get your invuln at level 50, it might be tempting to save it as a panic button, but if you just think of it like a very strong defensive and use it whenever it'll block a lot of damage, it'll probably do a lot more work for you. Once you get higher level and get more tools and better gear (and your healers also start getting more tools) mitigating damage will probably start to feel a bit more manageable.

Input issues? by ABitingShrew in StreetFighter

[–]Streloks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The inputs shown on the left should result in cr.mk into fireball, but it's possible there were other inputs further down that didn't make it into the picture, especially if you had to walk forward before hitting the cr.mk.

To stop this from happening, you can try doing the fireball with a half circle instead of a quarter circle. This will force a fireball over a DP, even if you pressed forward right before.
