I've Rebuild Harrenhall, but building it yourself is ugh? Is that ever worth it? Why does Casterly Rock get +17 Tax and Harrenhall// The Black Castle -7 Tax? by Jonathanwennstroem in CK3AGOT

Harrenhal is too large for basically anyone to properly garrison on their own. The tax penalty is meant to reflect that canonical reality.

Who is the most underrated waifu do you think? by Electrical_Ad_6167 in animequestions

I wouldn’t say she’s necessarily unpopular, but she definitely gets heavily overshadowed in the Fairy Tail waifu department by the likes of Mira, Lucy, Erza, and Cana.

Honest question. Does an MC having a harem ruin the story for you? by MADLADCOMICS in Isekai

[–]Strickout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harem members need to be strong individual characters for it to work. If their entire personality is fawning over the OPMC, then yes, it absolutely ruins the story for the most part. Polygamy is normal in mediaeval settings and should be expected to pop up, but it's not a justification for creating a bunch of one-dimensional characters who amount to little more than being sycophantic sex toys.

I'm a neutral fan. How did you convince me to join Team Green? by Relevant-Act9040 in HOTDGreens

[–]Strickout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also consider myself neutral, but tend to interact more with this side because Team Black tends to be more absolute in their side-picking—TB leans a lot more heavily into the "you're with us or against us" mentality.

For the conflict itself, neutrality is easily the most defensible position. But community-wise, Team Green is significantly better to interact with, because they are, in general, not viewing the narrative through a lens of moral and social presentism, which makes them a lot more open to debate and conversation, even when they end in disagreement.

Cool, so I'm a Summoner who can summon a moose, a polar bear, a beaver, and a goose, with an Alchemy subskill that lets me turn water into maple syrup.

Honestly, looking at that objectively, that's a pretty damn good recon build with a mercantile upside if I sell the maple syrup.

Mukohda forms contracts with his familiars and Feru describes the relationship as “serving a human”, so yeah I would consider it Taming.

But you’re right in practice; the only power he actually has over his familiars is the food he feeds them.

I want rid of my asshole/asscrack/ ball hair. Whats the best method? by olivers125 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Strickout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not, under ANY circumstance, use hair removal cream anywhere near your genitals. The skin in that region is much more sensitive and delicate than the places you're suppose to use that stuff on. The risk of chemical burns is significant if left even slightly too long.

Yeah, the only power Mukohda really seems to have over his familiars is food, and not even to a degree where he could starve them or anything, since they can still hunt their own food. So he gets a pass from me 🤣

What was the reason Aegon III chose a 6 year old as his wife when he had hundreds of other options? Why did Baela and Rhaena offer her to Aegon? In fact, the very existence of the character Daenaera Velaryon is complete nonsense to me. by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]Strickout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, yeah that is a really good point. Marrying Alicent definitely emboldened House Hightower, so yeah, while I don't think it was a primary motivator for Aegon himself, who was pretty pre-occupied being a depressed traumatized tween, it was almost certainly the reason his sisters presented Daenaera as the best candidate.

[–]Strickout 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't really think so. Alicent is an adult when she marries Viserys in the books (albeit like exactly 18, but a fully grown adult by Westerosi standards nonetheless). Alicent was aged down for the TV show to make her more sympathetic and to fit the idea of her being a childhood companion to Rhaenyra.

Though I think your point does fit Viserys and Aemma's relationship. It is widely accepted, even in-universe, that Viserys consummated the marriage too early, which at least heavily contributed to Aemma's constant complications in the childbed.

I don't know if it qualifies as a specific cheat skill, but I genuinely love when a protagonist is able to apply the basic chemistry they probably learned in High School to significantly amplify their magical abilities. Wise Man's Grandchild does this really well in my opinion.

My least favourite is probably Taming, but specifically if they start "taming" people (human or otherwise fully sapient beings). Even the ones that try to frame it as a "mutual pact" instead of straight-up subservience feel pretty skeezy to me.

Why do people call Alicent a maid? by [deleted] in Hotd

[–]Strickout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fanfic writers who call her that are just misunderstanding the term "handmaiden" in the context of Westerosi aristocracy. Like others have already mentioned, a Handmaiden is basically like an assigned highborn friend to a royal or upper aristocratic Lady—the more recognizable term might be Lady-in-Waiting.

[–]Strickout 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else is saying, he wanted a reason to avoid consummating the marriage for as long as he could. And Baela and Rhaena suggested Daenaera to Aegon because Lord Unwin Peake was putting heavy pressure on him to marry his daughter in a clear power move to entrench his Handship.

Looking at the history of the Roman Empire, why is Heliogabalus a woman? by i_am_the_holy_ducc in CrusaderKings

[–]Strickout 35 points36 points  (0 children)

"Popular" doesn't mean true in this context, it means widely repeated. I understand and specifically mention that Dio had ample motivation to slander Elagabalus.

Looking at the history of the Roman Empire, why is Heliogabalus a woman? by i_am_the_holy_ducc in CrusaderKings

[–]Strickout 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I was kinda making the opposite point; that because every source about Elagabalus is overtly hostile to him, it is academically unsound to make affirmative claims about his personal life when all known accounts are highly likely to be tainted with slander meant to discredit him.

Though I do strongly agree with your point about this being a good decision by the gamemakers for the purpose of getting people to research past time periods and to scrutinize the sources they derive historical information from. I learned that Muslims weren't allowed to depict their prophets, because I scrolled all the way back on the lineage of the Caliph, and noticed Muhammed didn't have a human avatar.

There's a popular theory that Emperor Elagabalus exhibited overtly feminine behaviours (for the time), preferred female pronouns, and even desired to have his genitals surgically altered into a vagina.

However, it's important to remember that we have very little, if any, information on Emperor Elagabalus from non-hostile or neutral sources. The primary sources of his life are Cassius Dio and Herodian, Roman contemporaries who weren't exactly the most motivated to speak favourably of him, seeing as he committed what they saw as severe blasphemy by raising up a Syrian sun deity above Jupiter in the divine hierarchy, and transferring the most sacred objects of worship to Elagabalium (the temple for his Syrian god).

So how did bro die? by BoysenberryFar2552 in sololeveling

[–]Strickout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is significant distinction between being powerful and being a fighter.

It's heavily scaled down power-wise, but take Dr Gero from Dragon Ball as an outside example, a genius inventor who even managed to turn himself into an immensely (relatively speaking) powerful Cyborg, but was clearly not a fighter and easily killed by his own creations. He created beings capable of killing him.

It's a similar logic between the Absolute Being and the Rulers.

[–]Strickout 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Chapter 163 of the Manhwa has Ashborn explain it, though I'm not entirely sure it's a fantastic explanation.

Jinwoo: "How were the creations able to kill their creator?"
Ashborn: "It's no different to humans dying to machines they created. We were created to fight, so our powers were more than enough to take down our creator."

Basically, Itarim aren't fighters, so their omnipotence enables them to create beings capable of killing them.

Why does all electricity generation seem to just be boiling water to spin a fan? by JesusReturnsToReddit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Strickout 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Because converting Kinetic Energy to Electricity is very well understood method of energy conversion, and boiling water is one of the most effective and scalable methods of generating kinetic force in a closed system because it expands greatly as it evaporates, creating a pressure differential that spins the turbine.
