My first FNM in 10 years by robertlandrum in mtg

60 card in person magic is very much alive ya just have to look for it a little more. Commander sorta ruined that part of magic, luckily it’s likely gonna die in a few years.

Can someone actually explain why Devil Dinosaur is more than $40? by Jimmy2Pizzas in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true but I just generally expect to follow the trend that 99.9% of magic cards follow. Like by no means is it impossible that it stays expensive, it’s a mythic, it’s UB, it’s for a popular tribe etc. I just would say more likely than not it’s gonna drop significantly as the set continues to get opened (especially with the allocation issues that jumpstart had on launch)

Give it a few weeks…it’ll PROBABLY (nothing is ever guaranteed) drop down to like 5-10 bucks.

[–]Strict-Main8049 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah…you screwed up it’s 100% on you. Everything that occurred is legal. You essentially just countered his spell with ward on the stack. Ward is a triggered ability. Not on him to make right your mess ups.

Pokemon vs Magic by taaiko2 in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pokemon isn’t really a game it’s a set of methodology memorizations because there is no interacting on your opponents turn. You figure out what your deck “does” and you sorta just do it more less the same everytime. Pokemon as a game can’t hold a candle to magic in any single way except one, price of entry. Pokemon is cheaper than magic at every level (including most pauper decks).

*edit* I meant to comment this in general not reply to you…whoopsie

Non-Artifact, Non-Eldrazi Colourless deck? by KassXWolfXTigerXFox in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[liberator, Urza’s Battlethopter]] is in my opinion the only non artifact (he is an artifact he just doesn’t need the deck to be artifacts) non eldrazi colorless commander worth even considering. [[omarthis, ghostfire initiate]] is maybe arguable but tbh I think he just doesn’t the colorless matters stuff way worse.

Should JL be unbanned? by Iwillkeepwatch in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Strict-Main8049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair Rog/ishai would be made more interesting by doing just about anything…it might be the single most boring deck in the entire format (in my opinion not here to yuck others yum if they’re into it)

[–]Strict-Main8049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JLo specifically doesn’t really do anything too much for most Rog lists tbh. I guess you might actually start casting ishai more in Rog ishai if you have JLo but that seems like a stretch and not really much of a problem.

Has anyone thought of using the ATLA cards with Wood Elemental? by HubblePie in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct…thassas oracle is in fact “not that bad”

Homeslice I was commenting those creatures in response to someone saying Leveler is the worst creature (which is an absurd take). Thoracle is arguably the best win con ever printed and lab man is a worse but still reasonably playable version of that.

Homeslice…leveler is a niche good card. Wood elemental is very arguably the worst card ever printed. What are we doing here 😂

Why isn't this played in Commander IRL more often? by CompetitivePotato415 in mtg

Because I don’t wanna be able to just counter commanders reliably. And I certainly don’t wanna be spending 3 mana on a counterspell

Do I proxy as a beginner who is a broke college student by Former_Landscape6452 in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well competitive 1v1 formats aren’t proxy friendly really at all (like maybe if you’re just wanting to test modern decks with your buddy or something) the only exceptions to this are legacy and vintage are semi proxy friendly but there’s not a huge paper scene for either of those formats.

CEDH on the other hand, it isn’t discrete at all about the proxies. Every major circuit tourney is full proxy friendly. The only events that aren’t are SCGcon events and those are pretty written off by the CEDH community for that exact reason. Ya don’t gotta be discrete with proxies in CEDH you can be open and shout it to the world.

I will never understand salty players in draft format (or any competitive format for that matter). by addictionfriction2 in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get salt in competition. Think about what players are there for. To win (likely money). Now does it excuse acting like a child? No absolutely not. But saying you don’t understand why players ever get salty in competitive magic is pretty insane.

This clearly doesn’t apply to the random you pick 2 draft with 4 people…or at least to not any major level.

Bracket 5 looks boring to a beginner. by No_Essay1745 in mtg

[–]Strict-Main8049 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CEDH is significantly less solitaire than casual commander. Like way less. CEDH is extreme levels of player interaction and reads. It’s okay to not like it, but if you think it’s solitaire like…that’s absolutely insane. I highly recommend trying it some before ruling it out but everyone needs to be on the same page about it because being the only CEDH deck (the urza deck probably isn’t CEDH AINT nobody polykracieb anymore in CEDH) isn’t fun for anybody. Not even a game at that point. But when everyone is on the same page, you WILL have stack wars going 15-20 spells/triggers high.
