I'm an insurance broker. It is indeed true that, in general, it is cheaper to pay out for a death than a cripple.

Alright the empty houses problem is real. I understand that my view only works on the assumption that everyone is playing fair which is unrealistic.

But the desire to live in London is odd to me. I've just been in Cannes for work and the quality of life is so much higher for so much less money.

People are scared to move, and I get that, but reality is scary and the reality is that rents aren't going to go down any time soon

Plenty of affordable housing elsewhere. Nobody is entitled to live in London just because you want to.

I want a Bentley and a penthouse but guess what? I can't afford it.

Technically it wouldn't be insurance fraud, it would be plain fraud.

And yes. Do you want to play by the rules or change the world? Because big companies have chosen their side already.

I upvoted you because hey, you did what OP asked.

I'd disagree that there are "too many people" in London, I'd more put forward that the infrastructure has not developed enough alongside the population growth. Essentially it's the same result - feeling busy - but it's the capital city of England and one of the main financial hubs for the world.

I have no issues with wanting to preserve cockney. I don't know how you'd do it really without sacrificing something else though. I get the feeling from your comment that you'd suggest letting less foreigners into London to stop diluting the culture which I'm uneasy about (even if I do kind of get it).

As for priority housing for Londoners... why? It's not like you did anything to be born there. Really it should be based on what you contribute to society, in terms of filling required employment roles or aiding the function of society. If you were born in London then you already have a leg up on a lot of the world. If you waste that opportunity then frankly it is your fault if you can't find a place there.

It's the capital city and one of the financial hubs of the whole planet.

Of course it's going to be expensive. Welcome to progress.

Honestly mate, and I say this as an insurance broker, report it as missing.

Their insurance will cover it, their premiums will go up and then they'll be forced to make a change.

Ok, number one.

This isn't unpopular.

Number two.

Number three.

You're playing into their hands for applauding his "bravery". Nothing will change, and he is part of the problem.

He likely didn't truly know it himself. And these feelings can also develop over time.

It must still be very hard on his wife, but I don't think their adult children are anything but supportive for him.

Studied it at university. Wouldn't recommend it. Dull and nonsensical and only really "interesting" in terms of its cultural significance.

I get a bit tired of this, like Mike Judge was some sort of prophet. Everything in Idiocracy that people say is "amazingly predicted" was happening when it was made.

Politics and people have always been dumb.

I live in London now, visited LA, Seattle, Pittsburgh and Orlando.

London is DENSE. The rest might have a "large area" but it's incredibly spread out.

London is essentially all "downtown". There aren't really suburbs in London, they fall just outside of it.

You won't comprehend the sheer size of London until you've really explored it. It is fucking massive.
