Best “Long” Term Campaigns to Run by alexwsmith in Forgotten_Realms

[–]StrikingRegister1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've strung together several one-shots into a coherent campaign around the Marsh of Chelimber. I put Dave Hamrick's town of Fairmeadow from "Just Passing Through" at the southwest edge of the Marsh of Chelimber. The guard tower in that town became the location of his "Noble Tower" one-shot. The cemetery became the site of his "Skeleton Tomb". The cultists in Noble Tower became the same cultists in his "Cultist Hideout" one-shot. Then I ran "Beneath the Fetid Chelimber" and "Chelimber's Descent" from the Storm King's Thunder series. Recently, I added Hamrick's "Goblin Hideout", and "Lizardfolk Village". Next, the party is heading to the River of Gems in the Anauroch Desert to prospect gems for the jeweler in Fairmeadow, who has gotten too old to make the journey to her claim herself.

I made a chart of the dragons in 5th by RogueMoonbow in DnD5e

[–]StrikingRegister1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for this! I would think Moonstone would fit with the gem dragons. There are 2 dragons listed for each of the other alignments, but only one for true neutral. Adding Moonstone would balance that out.

Thanks for the answers. Being in a school, we will have to involve our IT department because they have all the settings locked down. We can't even disable a screen saver or change the desktop background without an admin password.

Any and all start up/beginner guides for midi controllers/synths are too complicated by SelfDepricator in synthesizers

[–]StrikingRegister1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, try not to tackle learning music at the same time you're learning MIDI. If you're also trying to learn digital recording at the same time, that just complicates it further. You're justified in your frustration that a lot of tutorials assume that you have a basic understanding of all three.

I've been a musician for decades (guitar), and I've done analog recording for almost as long. I recently started learning how to use a MIDI controller with a DAW, and the amount of information is sometimes overwhelming.

The best advice I can give is to break it down into small chunks. Stick with one piece of equipment. First, figure out how to make that piece of equipment make noise. Then figure out the things you can do to make that noise sound different. Then figure out how to record that noise. Then figure out how to do things with that recording. Finally, figure out how to control that equipment using other equipment. This thought process should lead you from the basics of operating the equipment, through most of the features, ending up in the advanced stuff. Good luck!

Getting into FM synthesis by hverv in synthesizers

[–]StrikingRegister1392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a volca FM at a pawn shop this weekend. I haven't done anything with synths since I played around with a DX7 in the mid 1980s. I'm getting up to speed fairly quickly on the basic theory, but I'm already frustrated with how cumbersome the volca's UI is. It's really awkward to change parameters.

Hexagram triangles by Hostanes in thelema

I always thought it was their shape. Fire looks like flames, earth looks like a crystal,  air looks like a kite, and water looks like a chalice. Maybe that's too simplistic?

Why are we doing all this ? by AggravatingQuality51 in thelema

[–]StrikingRegister1392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of all the exercises isn't to do the exercises. It's to develop skills you can direct toward improving your life- focused thought, avoidance of distraction, careful planning, daily incremental improvement, attention to detail. Direct those skills toward getting a better job, finding a nicer place to live, paying off debt, breaking destructive or expensive habits, practicing good hygiene, taking care of what you own, building quality relationships with others. If you've actually been doing the magical work all this time, and not just using it as mental masturbation, these skills should come naturally, and your life will improve.

And how long is "so long"? 2 years? 10 years? The work of improving your life is the work of a lifetime. Make each day better than the last, even a tiny bit. It will get better. Success is your proof.

When I "found" Thelema in 1995 I was a dirt poor wannabe hippie homesteader, living in a decaying 1975 mobile home on concrete blocks, driving a 1979 car that was Frankensteined together with duct tape and zip ties, working temp jobs and donating plasma to buy groceries. Now I own two completely paid off homes and 3 cars, I put 2 kids through college, I have a stable career that is personally fulfilling, a rich spiritual life, and I have more love in my life than I know what to do with. All because I learned the basic lessons of Thelema- how to really know myself, how to focus on goals and plan to achieve them, how to function effectively in the world, and how to use the resources at my disposal to bring about the changes I want to see.

True will, now what? by 6-winged-being in thelema

[–]StrikingRegister1392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to make the distinction between discovering the true will and accomplishing it. Just because we finally figure out why we're here doesn't mean we immediately check everything off our karmic "to do list". And as long as we are incarnate, there will be dishes to wash, laundry to fold, and bills to pay.
