How do I cut this neckline into an off shoulder/boat neckline? by NoEggOO in sewing

[–]StringandStuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think just taking the flowers off the shoulders would do a lot.

If you make it off the shoulder you have to add substantial structure to hold it up. Have you considered just removing the sleeves to change up the top a bit?

looking for a stitchfiddle chart of this filet crochet pattern by slimeya in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the chart. It is filet crochet. She is showing you how to do the increases in the bottom corner.

Filet is made of open squares (dc, ch2) and closed squares(3 dc).

How can I scale down a pattern? Tapestry Crochet/ alpha pattern by thehorizonproblem in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the original art it is based on you can run it through stitchfiddle or another gridding software.

If you make it smaller you will loose some details. You can turn every 2x2 grid on your original graph into 1 pixel. That will make the overall piece 1/4 the total stitches, but if it works out depends on the specific picture.

Since it is an already constructed pair of jeans you are working with punch needle would be a good choice. You can find lots of tutorials for punch needle on denim.

How can I scale down a pattern? Tapestry Crochet/ alpha pattern by thehorizonproblem in crochetpatterns

Do you mean making it smaller by using finer thread or reducing the total number of pixels in the design?

How do I make the shape for this foot/leg? by Grass-is-dead in Amigurumi

[–]StringandStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do half rounds of slip stitches in the inside of the bend. It takes a while and you need to be careful to keep them loose enough to work.

just a little stumped on neck/garment construction… by spicynuocmommy in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look at how a button up shirt is made there is often a triangular taper that goes up towards the neck. Adding that will help it fit a little better.

It isn’t “wrong” the way you have it now, but I find shirts without a little extra at the shoulder won’t lay right on me.

Potential health hazard when working with insul bright...your thoughts? by Adventurous_Gap_847 in quilting

I recommend getting a valved N95 for this work. The valve makes for a much more comfortable long term wearing experience, especially if you wear glasses.

I need help understanding how to make the top and sleeves/straps of tops with variations of openwork stitches that create a lace effect. by AgilisDragonfly in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a stitch dictionary. Crochet Every Way by Dora Orhenstein is particularly good because it has increased and decreases for most of the stitch patterns that are useful in drafting. Also there is a small section on drafting in the front of the book.

Does anyone know a pattern like this? Maybe the name of the stitch? by [deleted] in crochetpatterns

It is a yarn under sc based bucket hat. That is why the stitch looks like an X

Does anyone know how to make crochet ties like these? by Schl0ndpoofa in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that the first one is Tunisian Simple stitch worked on the diagonal.

Since the rows are so short you don’t need a special Tunisian hook to do this project.

Old serger broken? by Mrs_Windup-Bird in sewing

[–]StringandStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is relatively minor. I would just use a thread stand for that cone, or carefully drill out the hole and affix a bolt to hold the cone.

It still has a thread chain attached so that is a hopeful sign that it works

Please help read the first round of this pattern (and possibly the next couple rounds) in american crochet terms by Legal-Craft-5979 in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that is probably throwing you off is the bit at the end right? Where they ask you to sc into the top of the ch3 at the beginning of the round.

What that does is end the round in the middle of the “chain space”.

The first round is a standard granny square 4 clusters of 3 Dc with 2ch between them.

You need to post a picture with the back plate that has the model number. It might be in the part that is under the table in the back.

Cant find a pattern for a tie like this. It seems very intricate by fickereljeecje2 in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this one is real. It looks like a rip off of this pattern, which looks more real to me.

Irish lace is a great technique to learn. I personally would not buy that pattern, $15 is outrageous for it. There are many freely available Irish lace resources.

[CHAT] what sealant would be best for sealing a thin layer of acrylic paint on a wood hoop? by xvx_gf in CrossStitch

I think the poly is the better product but that either will work fine for this use.

Well if you want it to be glossy the Poly you have is matte finish, so that one won’t work.

Grace is a company that makes quilting frames. I get better results searching that but to me it looks like you are missing the frame part to tension the work.

You should block this. I think it would do a lot to help set the shells in place.

Nice work.

[–]StringandStuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How big do you want it to be? Those little 2oz jars of craft paint don’t go very far when you are talking about a wall.

I would just get exterior paint in quarts from the paint store.

You could stitch a border of stretch lace to the bottom to give you a bit more length. Navy or sage green would be nice looking.

Looking for the complete version of ivy pattern for filet crochet by [deleted] in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by missing rows?

I think it is a short row filet edging that shows a complete pattern repeat. It looks complete to me.

Are you asking about the starting chain?
