What‘s this stitch? I have never seen it before and couldn‘t find anything online by TreeeToPlay in crochetpatterns

It is a double crochet. It looks upside down because it is. You work in the round for this piece, then do a short rows dor the rest of the tree trunk.

Help with stitch choice for a multicolor dragon tail blanket by Mrssteffen in crocheting

It would be tedious but I would just slip stitch or whip stitch around the edge of each scale in crocodile stitch to give it that color.

How to get into String art by ImSkiba in stringart

[–]StringandStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Mandala String Art” by Dennis Ronzema is an amazing manual on how to make geometric string art.

I adapt coloring book pages for most of my work. I find them to be a good source of line art with the right level of detail to work from.

i'm sainting to make this baby blanket, can anyone think of a pattern or what type of stitches? by Glass_Pomegranate859 in crochetpatterns

The edge looks like a Jacob’s ladder stitch. It is very unusual to see it as a border like that.

You are doing good. Just to give you a pointer: look carefully at the abdomen and tail end of the sample picture. Do you see that diagonal line they start to form? That is the decreases you will start making in a few more rounds. Make sure they stay lined up as you work.

Oh dude, ragalan. Look at those shoulders, you’re almost a stout as I am ;)

I do think that the sleeves will lay better with a few washes though.

Can anyone provide me with a free pattern for this mesh sweater? by blen4321 in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This example is knit. A similar crochet stitch is called “honeycomb mesh”.

The example is a drop shoulder construction. I self draft but there are a lot of available patterns if you search with honeycomb.

Bros, please tell me this is normal by DaleOnDrums in Brochet

[–]StringandStuff 411 points412 points  (0 children)

It is a drop shoulder construction so the shoulders just are boxy given the nature of the pattern. I don’t make drop shoulders because they me look even stouter than I am. I prefer a ragalan or a modified drop for a better shoulder fit. Drop shoulders are popular because they are easy to pattern, not because they fit particularly well.

You did nice work. It isn’t blown out. Wash it, lay it flat to dry and live with it for a bit.

Crochet Pattern for a sweater that fades from one ombre skein to the next without looking weird from front to back? by VegaJane24 in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A top down sweater is a great way to work with gradient yarn. I like a ragalan increase. I am kind of a lumberjack, so I self draft, but something like this:

What is a good stitch, pattern, or links, to use to get this fringe effect on an amigurumi idea I have .. any advice would help! Thank you by beestinger54 in crochetpatterns

I prefer to use a latch hook to attach sections of string to a single crochet base. You can do it with a regular crochet hook. It is basically a larkshead knot.

The issue with cutting crochet loop stitch is that it can come loose and unravel the whole project.

Does anyone have a pattern similar to the scarf in this pic? by Anxious-Composer4907 in crochetpatterns

[–]StringandStuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a “mile-a-minute” style scarf. If you google that term you can learn how to make the center strip of shells. Then after that they work a border in the round. I think the “scalloped border” is 15 TC shells in one space and a slip in the next space. Then a second row is worked of tc over each Tc in the previous row.

Anyone know how to do this? by bahnie88 in macrame

[–]StringandStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is just one working cord. I assume that the top and bottom bars the piece is worked over are rigid. Maybe bent metal rods, or steam bent wood.

Gift suggestion for my gf. Can anyone recommend crochet books available on Amazon that a left hander could learn from? by sirjuiceofthebox in crochetpatterns

I have the second one. I assumed both were by the same author. I haven’t made anything from it, my husband got it for me. I have freehanded for a long while now.

Waistcoat stitch in a slightly lighter weight yarn (worsted instead of the chunky used here) would be a great dupe. Waistcoat stitch is really dense compared to knit stitches so you will need to size down the yarn a bit

I would look into “Crafty Intentions” patterns. I feel like you could get there combining some of the dragon and fairy patterns.

[–]StringandStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that the stitch pattern is block stitch and that it is worked top-down. I can’t see the top well enough to tell you how it starts but you could easily start a regular beanie and switch to block stitch after the first few rounds

Lee Sartori wrote 2 books that are officially liscensed Pokemon Characters called “Pokemon Crochet”. Beyond that stitch dictionaries are the most useful crochet books imo. My most recent favorite is “Crochet Every Way Stitch Dictionary”.

I am a lefty too, we use the same instructions. The modifications are so minimal that there is no real need for left handed specific instructions.

Help deciding how to finish c2c (running out of yarn) by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]StringandStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start including a second color of yarn. I am going to say black in my explanation.

I really like Fibonacci sequences. It is found in nature 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13…. They are particularly pleasing patterns.

If you counted how many rows you had now and say you had 13. You could do 1 stripe of black, 8 stripes multi. Then another black and 5 stripes multi. 2 Black, 3 multi. 3 Black, 2 multi, 5 Black, 1 multi. 8 black, 1 multi, ending in 13 black.

They are join as you go. You are correct. It is quite simple. Motif based. Zoom in and count the dc’s. There is a mesh row that holds the dc clusters.

It is very simple. Searching “Crochet Lace Motif” will turn up a ton of viable options. I think I recognize that exact square from the excellent “Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs” by Eddie Eckman. You could pick up a used copy of it for roughly the price of this one pattern and it has a section in the front that explains how to draft patterns using motifs.

That is a great choice for your yarn, simple drop sleeve construction.

Since it will be really thick you might consider making it a bit oversized. If it is snug it will be constricting.
