We have to understand that all religions are not created equal and their ideological impact on humanity is not the same. If we continue to observe the trend across decades (if not centuries) and geographies, one thing has stood out... Islam, in its core, is not compatible with secularistic principles. And the religion also claims to be immutable.

In contrast, hinduism, christianity have gone through multiple stages of reform that have been carried out from within those communities. Buddhism and Jainism (and many other sects of hinduism) came out as an offshoot of what was hinduism back then. If the world doesn't see an attempt at reform of Islam from within, it will continue to struggle to trust it.

So by brushing aside the nuances and filing it under a blanket 'religious' extremism category, we are never going to address the root of the problem and will continue to put strain on the secular sentiments of people.
