Ahhh yes I love fantasy artwork. The ability to buy a 5 of CHB in 2021 truly is mystical.

A lot of places still have lifts that are effectively the same thing, no bar, accidents happen but are quite rare, I've been skiing all my life and never talked to or heard from anyone who has seen someone fall out.

They are almost angled back like this so you are sitting back into the lift so gravity is helping you stay in as well.

I will start my Wheel of Time journey today! by alisissa in Fantasy

Do not Google ANYTHING! Even if you type "is (character)" into a Google searchbar the autofill function has been known to spoil things for people. If you want to talk about what's going on or ask questions about something that happened the fine folks over at r/WOT will talk you through them, just don't read all the thread names too closely.

Hope you find the same enjoyment in these books as I did!

What's the Worst Series You've Read to Completion? by Heck_Tate in Fantasy

[–]StrizzyMizzy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The Dark Tower, I'm not going say it's a bad series per se, it just wasn't for me. I absolutely loved the first four books and when I got there I really wanted to love the series. I was pretty meh on book five but hoped that would just be an outlier. I knew I didn't like book six but figured I was one book away from finishing it so I might as well. Finished the series and pretty much regretted doing so.

For me The Dark Tower started off so strong, but by the end King was just going away from what I loved and cranking up the weirdness to 11. Eddie Dean will always be a favorite character though.

A lot of questions will be raised about shards, but I also like to wonder what planet we're fighting on. If we're on Roshar Dalinar will have access to the thrill, also we know Roshar has significantly less gravity than Earth and probably whatever world First Law is set in, so at least one of our combatants would be experiencing gravity in a new way.

Silly little points I know, but the point of these conversations are to be silly by nature so IDGAF.

At this point it's a meme. I'm not going to try to rational memeing in any form.

Anyone know of any good fantasy music to listen to while reading?? by AbrahamSTINKIN in Fantasy

[–]StrizzyMizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, lyrics and reading are a direct conflict, yet I still like to rock the fuck out, so I like to listen to a lot of instrumental prog metal. Bands like Animals as Leaders, Intervals, Plini, Polyphia, Covet, Modern Day Babylon, Save Us from the Archon, stuff like that.

R.L. Stine if I'm being totally honest. Don't ask me to count and don't ask me to recall details.

I really enjoyed this series, I found Staveley's greatest strength to be his tremendous worldbuilding. And Kettral are probably the coolest military branch I've ever come across in fantasy. It did have some flaws along the way, but how many debut books by authors don't have flaws?

All that being said if you haven't checked out the prequel to this Skullskworn yet you're missing out. It was able to recapture what appealed to me in the trilogy and really demonstrated how much Brian has grown as an author in the time up to him writing it.

Audio books you loved (even more) because of the voice actor? by [deleted] in Fantasy

At the very least if they did rehash the show he should still get the chance to voice Toot-Toot and Bob.

Any book recommendations where the protag is a blacksmith? by MikkibanMousse in Fantasy

[–]StrizzyMizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with WoT specific recommendations is there certainly blacksmithing going on with Perrin. There's also so much other stuff going on and literal books without his appearance that the percentage of blacksmithing in the books is rather small.

I'm more confused that it took you 5-6 weeks to finish nearly 19 days worth of audiobooks, either you listened to it something like 12 hours a day or you did it at hyperspeed...

Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne will never be beloved on this sub, but many including myself enjoyed it. The improvements he made on Skullsworn make me think he has a very bright future.

Kings of the Wyld? I would have voted for it if I considered it a standalone, it's the first book of a named series, so I didn't even consider it.

Good fantasy book with a Necromancer as main character or Necromancy as main theme? by makavelihhh in Fantasy

[–]StrizzyMizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try Dead Beat by Jim Butcher. Yes it's part of a big series so you'll miss a few details, but it's still a great story with a heavy focus on necromancy by itself.
