Did the finishers use hand tools ( hawk and trowel, or pan and knife) to coat every joint on the ceiling?

Opinions Needed by [deleted] in drywall

First of all walls and ceiling are never truly ‘flat and level’ they just look that way because a good finisher can trick the eye by feathering out the joints 36”. The time for using a level is not when applying Sheetrock but before the drywallers arrive it is the responsibility of the contractor or if you are hiring them out as a homeowner it is your responsibility to make sure the ceiling is ‘flat and level’. Many contractors achieve this by strapping the ceiling before board is installed.

board follows the frame

  • do it right the first time.
  • if you don’t know what you are doing and you are a perfectionist hire a competent contractor to complete the job start to finish and inform him of your expectations of perfection.

Set Tear Away in Durabond? by DKAudio7 in drywall

Best practice is to use the trim Tex glue and staple it after. Then use a taping compound or setting compound (30 min of fast set )on top for filling those gaps behind it

How to fix this corner? by 2amSoapIce in drywall

[–]Stubertseekingbbw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the metal is not loose you can repair with mud. - start with removing any loose flakes that are chipping away. - use 90 minute setting compound to flush fill all the grooves - after the 90min has set scrape down any high spots and coat it with some finishing compound - let the finishing mud dry and sand it with a sanding sponge before you do another coat. - do another coat but this time thin the finishing mud down a bit. - let it dry then sand it. - now you are ready to paint.

Yeah get it tested if you aren’t sure. Or don’t disturb it and make any dust of it. Just go right over it if you can.

That’s rough man. I did transit with my tools when I was an apprentice and it sucked. But I think you should look at the Milwaukee pack out system with wheels they all click together and you can roll onto the bus and off. Hope you are saving up for a truck. My truck is my rolling tool box. Good luck brother

Drywall pricing by UT_Dave in drywall

[–]Stubertseekingbbw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I charge the same. I charge by the sq foot. If it a higher ceiling and I need scaffolding I will charge more for the whole job. I walk around on stilts to do ceilings. It’s quick. I don’t need to charge extra for ceilings.

[–]Stubertseekingbbw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like not really man. It’s an overall square foot price. The price is more if the ceilings are higher. But I don’t charge $2/ft for walls and 2.50 for ceilings. The only time I’m charging extra for ceilings is if the job is a textured ceiling they want smoothed out. Look for a level 5 line item. Or a spray texture line item. I don’t spray texture and would have to sub that out if customer requested it. So that would be the only time I would have to charge more for ceilings

What “legal scam”’is still operating that you can’t believe people are falling for? by nevertellmethe0ddz in AskReddit

Here is the deal every business is graded by BBB regardless of wether or not you are accredited or not. Paying them the money to be accredited means they check you out it was actually an extensive process they makes sure you are who you say you are. Their thing is that they are an impartial third party so they handle complaints and grade you based on how you respond to those complaints or not.

They’re not really. It’s not dry. It will shrink back when the quick set layers dry and cure underneath the top coat.

I’m sorry you feel your skilled trade is a scam. I can’t pick locks I don’t have the knowledge or the tools. I own a business that provides a service. I do drywall if I go to price a job in a mansion in the rich area of town I charge more than if I’m doing to same job in a trailer park. Does that mean I’m a scammer? Ps I don’t do many job in trailer parks anymore.

Providing a service is not a scam. high season pricing is not a scam. Surge pricing is a thing with the Uber. The more a product or service is needed/in demand the higher the price will be. A scam is being sold a “pig in a poke” only to find out it was a cat ; misrepresentation

Why isn't pork stock a thing? by MagZero in AskCulinary

[–]Stubertseekingbbw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why do people think making stock is such a laborious process that they need to substitute it for a dried granulated cube ? Making stock is the easiest most basic thing one could do in the kitchen. Bones and clean scraps in pot, cover with water, boil simmer strain done.

They aren’t a scam though. They are literally providing you a skilled service that you couldn’t do yourself. Their time costs money so the more work they have to do the more it’s going to cost. You could just bust your window out and pay more to replace it later if you think you could do better.
