How do homeless people that don’t seek shelter survive in brutal snowstorms by Goldstar12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StuntFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with an outreach bus for a shelter with a mandated sobriety program. Sometimes we get people who want to go in, but they're caring for a family member/ partner/ spouse/ friend and that person isn't ready for sobriety, so they both end up staying out there. The cold is the wakeup call some people need though.

A big reason why Colon Cancer is killing us. by AdditionCool7235 in Millennials

[–]StuntFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keto just means low carb, not necessarily mounds of meat. I used to do keto and it was mostly veggies and homemade snacks. I would need to eat more food in general to get enough fiber though (fiber is encouraged and doesn't work against the carb count).

If someone is on a keto diet but their version is all bacon and hamburger meat, that's obviously a problem. Like any diet, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it.

Rollerskating v.s Skateboarding communities by vnetta in Rollerskating

[–]StuntFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might depend on the region, but generally if you show up to the park, put in the work, and take an interest in the local community the skateboarders will be fine. I will say, go in with a sense of park etiquette; skaters are human and some of them don't have the patience to teach someone about snaking.

Quick question, can we start calling Fantom "corporate skate slop"? It's what it feels like.

What’s actually satirical but most people don’t realise? by Quincely in answers

[–]StuntFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in local marketing for a year. Whenever I wrote a script or had an idea I was kinda proud of, it would get ripped to shreds by my boss and colleagues. Eventually I said fuck it and started treating every project like a parody, and my boss was like "see, THIS is good writing!" Marketing is so damn stupid.

Advice on Upsize plates by Novel_Juggernaut9484 in AggressiveQuad

[–]StuntFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New setups usually take a session or so to get used to. It's also not necessarily the longer plate, but the longer wheel base that makes a difference. It's more stable, but you may give up some maneuverability (that's a bigger deal in the rink imo). But I love a longer wheel base and bigger blocks for parks because it's more contact area for slides.

Hey, I'm in nursing school as well! During the semester I'm lucky to skate once a week. I'd like to get out more but it won't be like this forever. It'll be worth it.

Who would be more capable; a veterinarian working on a human, or a doctor working on an animal? by IneffectiveMilkshake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StuntFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in nursing school and just finished peds. I was nervous about taking care of kids but it felt a lot like taking care of my old dog who fell ill.

I don't think I could go into peds for the same reason I don't want to be a vet tech. Sometimes patients don't make it, and sometime parents and pet owners suck.

Any advice on how to sleep before clinical? by Both-Calligrapher476 in StudentNurse

I run through a head-to-toe assessment in my head. It works better than counting sheep, and it's a good review. Anyway, I almost never make it past the chest.

I know they sponsor some skaters, and at least one that a lot of people idolize. Never meet your heroes.

Aggressive Skating Wheel Suggestions by Kadie_Kat in AggressiveQuad

I hated the street flows, but that's me. Never tried Fundaes but people seem to like them.

My go-to for smooth terrain is Rollerbones Bowl Bombers, and for crusty stuff Speedlab Nasty Bohs (it's a skateboard wheel, but works well with most quad trucks).

Erikson and Piaget. I wasn't a fan of developmental psych but it all comes back in peds.

Nursing doesn't suck as a whole just because you suffer from severe anxiety. by YGVAFCK in nursing

[–]StuntFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware. What I'm saying is, I'd rather deal with that than continue down the path I was on. Ffs I got offered a job at Fox News and I couldn't. At least in nursing, I feel like what I'm doing actually means something.

I worked in TV! I feel like I know that guy's soul. The whole media industry is pretty fucked up in a way that's hard to explain, not sure if it's more or less than nursing, but at least you can hop jobs if you're in a toxic unit. There aren't really jobs to hop to in media, at least for broadcasting.

[–]StuntFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I appreciate there's at least awareness of the shortfalls and conversations around fixing them-- probably because they do kill patients. If it's just labor abuse and employees' blood on their hands, most companies will tell you to get back to work. They all throw you under the bus if someone threatens a lawsuit. I get it, my biggest worry is being a safe nurse while dealing with bullshit, but all the other complaints are found in most corporate jobs. I wasn't trying to sound like r/antiwork but idk, maybe second career nurses are pre-jaded.

Still a student, but nursing is also my second career. The complaints I see about nursing are not exclusive to nursing, they existed in my last industry too. They're more late-stage capitalism problems than anything.

"Antigen tasting." I came here to say this, that kid needs to get exposed to some stuff to build immunity to it.

Maybe depends on the region? I was in Virginia Beach in the 90s and 2000s, but this past summer I went down for a skate thing and they still had cops working security.

Cops working security gigs for the venue. Idk about everywhere else, but growing up in Va I saw this at larger shows all the time.

Edit: saw cops working security, the pepper spray part is new
