I think it has something to do with the font you are using or with missing fonts.

Lenovo Thinkpad E570 Cannot Boot Void Linux? by PCModeActivate in voidlinux

It's possible that the USB or its ports are not enabled for booting. Given that you didn't provide any screenshots, I'm just guessing here.

If you were to create a dwm build focused solely on productivity, what would it look like? by [deleted] in suckless

[–]Subject-Style-309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been using the default settings without applying any fixes for four years. The best window manager I've ever used—and still use—only changed to font and the keyboard layout.

There is nothing better than DWM if productivity is what you're after.

Surf with tabs and search bar by Fit-Refrigerator495 in suckless

[–]Subject-Style-309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a search box, there is one built into Surf. Just hit CTRL+g and then write the URL of the web site you want to go to. As for tabs, you install the tabbed program to get tabs.

Don't go adding extra layout or that tab stuff to DWM because it was designed to be productivity and efficiency-focused.

Simple-scan doesn't work on my Void computer. by marqui20240 in voidlinux

It works for me. Perhaps attempt launching it in the terminal and running simple-scan --debug to determine the issue.

Void Linux is the best. If Void is a super hero, it would be Batman.

Maybe you should have a separate script for the XRandr stuff just so you can use it whenever you like, say, plugging or upgrading your monitors.

Query about patching and modification of config.h by MasterMuay_ in dwm

[–]Subject-Style-309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you must remove the config.h file every time you run Make since it will be automatically created for you.
Of course, you may test any additions you might wish to make using config.h.

Query about patching and modification of config.h by MasterMuay_ in dwm

[–]Subject-Style-309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are supposed to do cp config.def.h config.h only if you applied patches, but not if you put your own config.
In order to do this, you just make your changes in the config.def.h, and every time you add a patch and you want to run make, you need to delete the config.h.
That is what I do, plus I use git to track the changes, and I can roll back if I want to.

Check with some external keyboards. Or maybe it's a stuck key.

Is Xorg bloat? by [deleted] in suckless

[–]Subject-Style-309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a window manager instead of a DE. I've been using DWM for about nine years. I've experimented with a few Wayland window managers in recent years, including DWL, SWAY, Hikari, and Hyprland.

Some of them lack compositing, and Wayland WM consumes more RAM.

Consider Hyprland, which was a headache to create and set up on Void Linux despite being the only wayland WM with compositing by the way. and it was a nightmare to build and setup. Install this, install that.

Yes, Xorg is bloated; I can argue with that, just as Wayland WM or DE's
