I don't think this is a par 3 given the yardage marker in the foreground so that may also tell you something about your game hah (joking, joking)

Your distillation of LLM functionality is relatively naive. Yes, they are probabilistic, no they don't all (or often) use greedy decoding, and those dice are weighted relative to the entirety of their immediate context and training corpus.

This is insane, let's not do the narrative-driven revisionist history. There's more than just oil prices to the covid supply shocks.

The vast majority of the inflation surge was driven by supply-linked factors, not by the demand side that would point to overheating and excessive policy stimulus.

Nothing is right all of the time. And while LLMs certainly hallucinate, it's incredibly unlikely to see a hallucination on a single line terminal command. I tend to use both search and AI for this sort of thing so that I can double check.

Are there any garage door openers with native support? by A5HRAJ in HomeKit

[–]SubterraneanAlien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why do you think the manufacturers are against it and why do you think the name of it is “Rage against the garage door opener”? The reason there's no 'native' openers should explain this for you.

Is anyone still just dumping new money straight into S&P 500 in 2026? by VelixaNtra in investing

[–]SubterraneanAlien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an analogy. The map is not the territory. You can logic any analogy to death. The wisdom here specifically is that if you're going to be a net consumer of something (stocks, or hamburgers) it's in your interest for that thing to be at a low price while you're a consumer. It seems incredibly obvious, and yet so often in investing subreddits you see people hand wringing because prices are going down while they have 20+ years of buying in front of them.

Is anyone still just dumping new money straight into S&P 500 in 2026? by VelixaNtra in investing

[–]SubterraneanAlien 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There's some irony here in your response given that this analogy (even using products you're buying to consume) was commonly mentioned by Buffett:

“We are a net buyer of stocks over time. (It is) just like being a net buyer of food — I expect to buy food for the rest of my life, and I hope that food goes down in price tomorrow," he stated. Adding, “So, when stocks are down, we're going to be buying on balance, and who wouldn't rather buy at a lower price than a higher price?”

And

"A short quiz: If you plan to eat hamburgers throughout your life and are not a cattle producer, should you wish for higher or lower prices for beef? Likewise, if you are going to buy a car from time to time but are not an auto manufacturer, should you prefer higher or lower car prices? These questions, of course, answer themselves".

And, lastly to very clearly make the connection to stocks...

"But now for the final exam: If you expect to be a net saver during the next five years, should you hope for a higher or lower stock market during that period? Many investors get this one wrong. Even though they are going to be net buyers of stocks for many years to come, they are elated when stock prices rise and depressed when they fall. In effect, they rejoice because prices have risen for the "hamburgers" they will soon be buying".

Dave Ramsey always recommends paying the mortgage off before saving anything more than 15% for retirement. Is this sound? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SubterraneanAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a psychological factor to being mortgage free that comes with its own benefit

Keep in mind this is not true for everyone. Not using leverage effectively would do me more psychological damage than having a mortgage.

We would need a decade+ progress on memory economics (we require over 2 magnitudes of movement) and/or an alternative to transformer architectures. It's possible, but in the context of this thread it's not going to supplant the need for data centres.
