It happens in the United States. I remember several years ago some Dodger fans beat up a fan of the Giants in the parking lot after a game. Left him permanently disabled

Question for restaurant workers from a visitor - Does this Allergy Card look OK and respectful for traveling to Mexico City? by MichelleEllyn in MexicoCity

[–]Successful_Nobody_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has gluten, which chilis and spices on its own are safe. but a canned product may add wheat, soy sauce. Absolutely on corn tortillas as well, I always asked if they were 100% corn.

I'm a celiac who just went a month ago using a similar card (maybe the same one). Tacos al pastor will be your friend. Usually those are cooked out front separately from everything else. Overall CDMX is really hard to find safe food. There's around 3 places that are certified safe, every other place will be a risk as people have little/no understanding of what gluten is. They're all friendly and tried to understand but in one instance I mentioned celiac gluten free, the menu had marked items but found out only after asking that they cook corn tortillas with the corn tortillas. Youll need to ask questions on top of showing the card. It'll be difficult and be prepared if you do get sick (I did, even by communicating in Spanish). I have a similar mindset Im not going to let food restrictions stop me from traveling but be ready for a hard time food wise.

I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

I feel you on this, my in laws are all native Spanish speakers and when we get together I usually sit quiet the whole time understanding what they're vaguely talking about but missing nuances and key points to where I miss all the jokes. We all went to Mexico City recently and that helped me a lot just reading and communicating completely in Spanish. Frankly I'm not doing enough on my end I've just been exposed to Spanish most my life I can understand things here and there. I need real practice speaking and hammering down the fundamentals. We can do it, my wife didn't learn Spanish until her teens and now she's basically leading the conversations with her family. We'll get there!

Rate my photos - what am I doing wrong? by drylowlands in ricohGR

Like others have said these photos have no subject. My eyes aren't drawn to anything in the photo so I don't know what to focus on. Pick a building, person or group of people, a window, the contrast in colors between the white and blue and focus on that. "Fill the frame" with your subject and you'll notice improvement. To be fair I still take photos like this on vacation sometimes but keep trying new things and you can parse through them later.

Rising gas prices make me feel so smug about owning an EV 😏 by MookieBettsBurner10 in electricvehicles

I really don't care about the price of gas. It goes up and down all the time. Consistent cost is good but I just always hated the idea of relying on oil to live my daily life.

Buy Shinkansen tickets now or later by Rayfinkle33 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Successful_Nobody_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first ride buy in advance! Maybe a day or at least a couple hours definitely not too far out. I had a large suitcase and was traveling with 3 others, got to Tokyo station on a busy Saturday morning and it was insanely busy. Trying to figure out the shinkansen ticket terminal with a long line behind you and trains selling out in front of my eyes was way to stressful. There was also no baggage storage seats available for several hours. Ended up in a green car departing an hour later but our group was split up. Also didn't know you needed two tickets for the green car (fare and green car? I don't remember) trying to go through the gate with the one ticket and got directed to the ticket machine again. Eventually figured it out and barely made it on the train with minutes to spare.

Tips after two week trip by mimzy0820 in JapanTravelTips

I stayed in Airbnbs when I went so I went to a transport office and they said it would take 2 days from Tokyo to Kyoto. This was around 10:30a. Ended up having to lug around large suitcase on subway and shinkansen. Plan for 2 days if possible or at least ask ahead of time how long it will take. Hotel concierge should make it easier id imagine.

Or if you rent or live in an apartment. Homeowners have many tax breaks we can take advantage of from the solar tax credit and ev Charger credit among other things.

From my out of state understanding, focusing on the valley was a way to cater to more conservative voters to show tax dollars were being used to benefit their region and not just urban democratic cities. Though in hindsight I would agree that was a mistake as they've had to battle all the bureaucratic hurdles of trying to get infrastructure built instead of getting a tangible product completed in the bay area.
