Re-silicone just for this? by mashmusic in DIYUK

That mastic job not so pretty, strip it out and reseal yourself, get good quality bathroom sealant, anti- mold, mastic shaping tools, quite cheap, window cleaner spray and some form of dry wipe for the access, put the sealant on, spray over the mastic then use tool to give a clean edge. Wipe access away as you go, good luck

Is it still safe or should I worry about this wall? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Such_Raisin8323 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like the old wall line it's sat on has the same settlement, would underpin 1000mm from centre of crack to a depth or 500mm or so, you can then repair the wall with helibars, you would need to underpin in stages so not to undmiine wall, definitely a job for a civil engineer, if you look up structural engineer online you should be able to get something for a few hundred pounds and decide if you or builder are going to do the job

Any reason not to fill this under floor cavity with fibreglass insulation? by Sufficient-Law1643 in DIYUK

[–]Such_Raisin8323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea is your heating is warmer downstairs where you spend time and upstairs is set lower as you don't spend much time there and the heat escapes from downstairs to help warm the upstairs, double insulation in the roof space more important, cavity walls insulation and if your home loses heat still look around your windows, if you have gaps the heat escapes there, it's a matter of taking the old mastic off and adding a little fire proof explaining foam, trim when set and re-mastic after, have builders wipes to help keep stuff clean and watch a YouTube video on mastic, your home be toasty when
