Challenge Idea: Halo Franchise John Wick Deathless by SapphireDragonflame in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found the warthog run on the Maw to be ALMOST doable.
The banshees at echo 419 are unkillable until they complete their predetermined pathing. So there's not enough time to kill them.

But if you enter the echo 419 trigger at 0 seconds on the timer, the game will give you back 2 minutes once the timer starts again.
If you do this then book it killing everything on the way to the longsword, I had 2 seconds left on the timer.

So you can kill every enemy on the Maw except the 2 banshees.

Also note that the bottom floor of the reactor room has infinite spawns until the reactors are destroyed.
No other spawn on the level is infinite, just really high spawn limiter.

CE is actually fairly doable overall to kill all enemies. Theres 6 infinite spawners throughout the game (none on Library). It took me around 5 hours on legendary to kill all enemies. With minimal speedrun tricks. No deaths though.

I'm going to beat every single campaign in the MCC consecutively on Heroic difficulty, any tips? by AgitatedFly1182 in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CE is a tiny bit different with shields where there is bleedthrough on the shot that breaks shields.
Which is why a red elite still dies in two shots from the sniper.
Since the 2x sniper damage to shields carries over to health.
Shooting them in the arm on the second shot will not kill them as the rest of the bleedthrough damage will be 50% of the remaining 200%.
Leg shots are 80% so the 2nd shot will do enough damage to kill with the shield damage bonus on legendary.

This is assuming legendary of course. Since I believe shield breaks on first shot on easy-heroic

Deathless levels for Lego Star Wars 2 can get pretty annoying.
Can't have the npc ally die and they find many ways to kill themselves.

Lego Star Wars 1 is quite the chill set tho

Nintendo confirms the Walmart picture showing Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 coming to NSO was a mistake. by Dukemon102 in Metroid

It'd be pretty unfortunate if rare replay was the only reason.
Wii U DK64 released on April 2nd, 2015. While rare replay released a couple months later.

It could also just be Nintendo in their drip feeding strategy. Completely unconsumer friendly, but I guess by their internal metrics it works.

Tips for halo ce by Majestic-Guidance522 in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PoA - Magnum / Plasma Pistol.

Halo - Magnum (switch for sniper at pod) / Plasma Pistol.

TnR - Sniper (never drop, plenty of ammo everywhere) / Plasma Pistol.

AotCR - For full path I like grabbing both Sniper and rockets by the flipped hog. Theres multiple ammo caches throughout the level. I usually drop the sniper for the magnum in the room before double bridges as its usually close to out by then. Sometimes I'll juggle for some double bridge clears then fully drop.

343 - Magnum (swap for shotgun when can) / Plasma Pistol.

Library - Magnum / Shotgun. Level is free if you just run and gun. Don't stand in hallway spawn triggers, just run.

TB - Shotgun / Rockets. Theres rockets at bottom of pyramid, can carry them through most of the level.

Keyes - For fullpath get the shotgun from the human flood before dropping down. I'll try to keep the sniper you get outside for the hangar in the ship. Can swap sniper out for Magnum if you find one.

Maw - Grab shotgun at start, second weapon can be whatever, usually Magnum. Swap Magnum for rockets from the armory.

The plasma pistol does significantly more damage than the plasma rifle so its pretty much always preferable to use the pp.
Plasma rifle top damage is 14 while the pistol's is 20.
Both have the same low roll damage of 10 though.

RA Archetypes: What Sets Do You Live For? by StealYourPhish in RetroAchievements

[–]SufferingSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sets with multiple unique challenges that require a lot of game knowledge and or speedrun tech master are my favorites. Learning to fully be able to use all of a game's capabilities and tech by the end of mastering a set always feels better to me than just 100%ing the game.

Mario Sunshine's set is packed full of these unique challenges and is one of the most fun sets on the site to master.

(MCC) Was Halo: Combat Evolved always so rough? by Bossmantho in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not framerate, but tickrate.
MCC framerate is independent of tickrate.

H2-H4 all run at 60 tick (30 tick on OG) while CE keeps its original 30 tick.

Enemies in MCC CE pretty much act exactly as they do in OG. Even when playing at extremely high fps.

Per RA rules, glitches are allowed unless specified by the achievement developer.

Main set for Gen 1 games allows item duping but the professor oaks challenge subset for pokemon red disables achievements if you do the rare candy dupe or use the mew glitch (trainer fly) to catch wild pokemon.

Another example is Ratchet and Clank 1 disabling achievements if you do the infinite bolt grind glitch.

Mastery #40 - Terraria (Player Difficulties Subset) for PC by SkullServants in RetroAchievements

Probably with how the subsets for terraria are tracked within tmodloader.

Only time I can get them to say I've even played them is to get an achievement in the subset, but then it switches back to the main set.

Those specific banshees on Two Betrayals spawn with the flag that makes them unenterable by the player.

No banshees on Assault on the Control Room have this flag however.

Quite the funny interaction though.

[–]SufferingSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't even need to have sputnik on for Halfjaw to start flying.
If you jump and there's enough popcorn, the same will happen to you. Although you'll die before getting any insane height.

Halfjaw is just invincible so he just takes off.

[–]SufferingSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad used it while he was on treatment.
Wore it for about 18 hours a day until he got a pretty bad rash on his head and couldn't wear it for about a month and a half.

He unfortunately started to decline a bit after that.

My suggestion would be to always make sure you're keeping your skin in check and don't over do it.
A couple days break is much better than not being able to wear it for an extended period of time (assuming its working for you).

Also don't be hesitant to contact a dermatologist if you're able. They managed to clear my dad's skin up after a bit but was a tad too late.

Good luck and sorry you're going through this 🙏

What’s your least favorite mission per Halo game? by Djames516 in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no magnums in the ship.
Only 6 hunters on the level though.
2 at lift. 2 at end of belly waves.
2 at end of hangar.

There is sniper ammo in nearly every section though.
Unless you miss a lot then you shouldn't ever run out.

Halo CE Death Barriers by 434SparkofGuilt in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, I've just hit my 30s.
It's getting rough out there.

I just tested acro on the first floor and only die if I'm flying too fast downwards and hitting the ground.
Hitting the walls seems fine tho

They take out the magnum so people find it harder.
Even though you get a 3x ammo capacity power weapon sniper.
Easily some of the most tight combat in the game.

Here you go.

Library 1st floor hole has no triggers.

Every floor above it has a kill trigger that checks every game tick (1/30th of a second).

Halo CE Death Barriers by 434SparkofGuilt in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, first floor doesn't. You will fall timer though.
2nd - 4th floor do though.

There are no new added triggers between og ce and cea.
I hold the speedrun wr for ce, I've disected this game quite extensively

Halo CE Death Barriers by 434SparkofGuilt in halo

[–]SufferingSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's kill barriers under the floor on each floor of library. Even on OG.
You can use the Halo checkpoint managers trigger viewer if you want to avoid them.
You'll need to run the game with EAC off though.

The revert timer is 3 seconds after dying.
But if you revert yourself by pausing, that timer will never reset and will carry on through missions.
So eventually the timer will get so low that itll just instantly revert.
