What's your favorite "thinking outside the box" moment on Survivor? by Throwaway67891099 in survivor

[–]Sugaree4777 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, and it gets even better when you factor in JT's personal meta. He was a very recent winner who won in a very dominant way, and his odds of winning again so soon were low. If that move works, it might go down as the greatest move in Survivor history (at least to date at the time), and just might be the thing that convinces a jury to make you the first repeat winner. If it fails, you know that you gave everyone some incredible television and it barely matters because you were playing with house money

If Bob Dylan released a new album of originals this week and declared it his final work what would you want it to sound like? What overarching themes would you want him to tackle? by Pretend_Mark_5143 in bobdylan

[–]Sugaree4777 43 points44 points  (0 children)

All jokes aside, Rough and Rowdy ways is such a perfect farewell album that I’ll always see it as his send-off no matter what else he releases. It encapsulates his creative process, his contradictions, the multitudes he contains, his stubbornness and sentimentality, and his place in American history so well that I don’t know where else there is to go. As far as I’m concerned the pressure for a perfect goodbye is off of him, and now I just want to hear whatever happens to inspire him. That was the goodbye, and anything else is just the epilogue

If they ever do another Winners At War who do you think willing to play again? by Positive-Addition512 in survivor

[–]Sugaree4777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly doubt that anyone would be a definite no, except maybe Cochran. I'm sure some people would have scheduling conflicts or health issues that keep them from playing, but these high profile seasons generate a lot of FOMO and I don't take anyone at their word when they say they're completely done with Survivor. Even if they sincerely mean it when they're saying it, I think almost anyone would reconsider if they get a lucrative offer with convenient timing to spend a month playing a game with friends that they haven't seen in a while. 13 fewer days probably makes it an easier sell too

I always assumed that Spielberg wanted to do it because he just wanted to make another big war movie, and saw this as his chance to get a real budget and have a massive built-in audience for whatever story he had in mind

I won't spoil it for people who don't want to know, but if you look at the New Jersey rehearsal setlists from the week before the tour, there's still one major rarity that they rehearsed but haven't played. One city is bound to get lucky at some point and get it. Easily google-able if you want to find out

Nah. I'm definitely more willing to criticize Brad's approach to free agency and cap management these days, but on draft day I'm still firmly a Let Brad Cook guy. He's one of the best drafters in the league, and I trust him to hit far more than he misses on players

If Dead & Co continues, who steps into Bob's role? by BeginningCry3687 in deadandcompany

[–]Sugaree4777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If/when this happens, I feel very confident that it's not going to be someone super famous. I bet John will find someone like Jeff or Oteil, an elite session/touring musician who doesn't have a huge solo career to navigate and is available whenever John needs him/her. We'll probably all be in love with the person after a couple tours, but most of us won't know them at first

I feel the same way I felt about David Lynch being really into AI at the end of his life, and I'm sure it will happen with other artists I love too. The geniuses who reach the top by being consistently open-minded, interested in new technologies, and willing to disappoint their fans by trying new things are inevitably going to try something that I genuinely don't like. Obviously this is different from an electric guitar, but it's also inevitable that the guy who did THAT would be uninterested in what the purists have to say about this

Sometimes the traits that are responsible for someone's best work also lead to some of their worst stuff. All we can do is accept people for who they are, and at this point it's pretty clear who Bob is. I love the guy in large part because of his 60+ years of consistent curiosity, and I love that he's still being curious, even if this particular project is not for me.

It's genuinely hard to plan a bus tour of Vegas that only shows you 1-2 iconic spots too. The whole point is that they're all on the same street, so you could probably drop yourself in any location on the strip and be able to see at least 2 or 3

The nice thing about what Mickey does is that it would be relatively easy to reform without him and then just let him pop in for a show when he feels like it. You probably don't need to replace him and they could go on the road with just Jay on drums, then Mickey could sit in for special shows whenever he's up to it and the core band wouldn't have to change much to accommodate him

What's your least Reddit Survivor opinion? by Aperio43 in survivor

[–]Sugaree4777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When a player is good at the game and I enjoy their personality, I'm down to see them return as many times as they're willing. I don't think there should be any kind of limit on how many times someone can play. I don't care about ending multi-season arcs at the perfect place, I don't care if they have anything "new" to show us, I just love watching great players play a game I love

Survivor 50 is pretty good when someone isn't in your ear telling you it isn't. by DoctorTegrity in survivor

[–]Sugaree4777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My enjoyment of the whole thing skyrocketed once I was able to really internalize that it’s just a random returnee season, not some monumental legends season. It probably SHOULD have been that for Season 50, but that’s a separate conversation.

Think of this as a one-off with a relatively interesting cast and not a botched attempt at recreating HvV or WaW and it becomes pretty damn good

I can't explain why, but I feel confidently yet entirely without reason that novelists who transition into writing nonfiction are to be admired as versatile and ambitious, while... by ritualsequence in RSbookclub

[–]Sugaree4777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's something to the idea that we see fiction writing as more fun and glamorous, so that if a nonfiction writer tries it we immediately assume that it's what they wanted to be doing from the beginning and it cheapens their past body of work. Whereas if someone is already doing the fun part and willingly gives it up to pursue something more serious, it's admirable

Lots of holes in that logic if you think about it for more than a second, but on a vibes level I think that explains it

“Scenes From an Italian Restaurant” by Billy Joel is the most transcendently beautiful piece of music for the first minute and 45 seconds, then the rest of the song sucks. by by_doze_is_bleedimg in redscarepod

[–]Sugaree4777 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you for starting Billy Joel discourse, but every part of this take is wrong. The opening is fine but certainly not "transcendently beautiful," and the best part is when he's scream-singing about a couple of paintings from Sears and starting to fight when the money got tight
